The design and simulation of a new three phase HAPF circuit using a shunt active power filter (APF) connected in parallel with a capacitor (C) line of a (LC) low pass filter (LPF) has been submitted. The first aim of the new circuit is to use the LPF as a path to pass the fundamental frequency (50 Hz) current and eliminate other high order frequencies, while APF compensates high order frequencies and compensate reactive power of the circuit. The second aim is to benefit from the modified wave in the high frequency branch of LPF to use it as a useful power in order to feed different loads. In addition, With this topology, the resonance problem (which usually happens between LPF and the system) will disappear because of using of APF in the high frequency branch. The control circuit has been designed based on the instantaneous reactive power theory. A Clarke transformation equations and hysteresis current controller have been used in the HAPF's design. The proposed circuit has provided a good harmonic elimination, total harmonic distortion (THD) reduced, reactive power compensation and a reasonable sinusoidal waveform.","PeriodicalId":334135,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123030180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to simplify the home architecture, we put forward a grid-connected microgrid, which is comprised of PV panels, battery-based energy storage system, and critical loads and controllable loads. The objective of minimizing the operation costs and maximizing the utilization of renewable energy is achieved by a model predictive control strategy for scheduling the behaviours of the components in the microgrid. The proposed framework takes into account the predictions of load demand, PV generations and electricity price. A case study is employed to assess the performance under different forecast precisions of the proposed strategy and two other strategies used before, and the simulation results are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":334135,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG)","volume":"63 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129576944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aggregate load curve simulators are built by modelling stochastic consumer behaviour. Analysis is then performed on the number of loads that are required to aggregate in order to provide 5MW tertiary control power to participate in the Swiss ancillary service market. It is assumed that participants allow the aggregator to delay their loads for certain amount of time, where this delay provides the loads shifting flexibility. This work focuses on shifting usage of white goods as represented by dishwashers and washing machines, which are compared to the usage of heat pumps. A scheduling strategy is also proposed and evaluated for shifting dishwasher and washing machine group.","PeriodicalId":334135,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129730306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the recent years Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) has been successfully proposed as an alternative to the traditional control techniques, due to its fast dynamic response, easy inclusion of nonlinearities and constraints in the control algorithm and the ability of incorporate several control requirements in one cost function. However, FCS-MPC is characterized by a variable switching frequency which can cause a degradation in system performance, or demand higher output filtering. In this paper a Modulated Model Predictive Control (M2PC) strategy is proposed for constant switching frequency operation and verified with a neutral-point-clamped (NPC) converter for load current regulation and DC-link capacitor voltages balancing. The aim of this control technique is to obtain a modulated waveform at the output of the converter, whilst maintaining all the desired characteristics of FCS-MPC. The feasibility of this strategy is evaluated using simulation and compared to the classical FCS-MPC strategy.","PeriodicalId":334135,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120953411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The compensation of variations in reference current components is considered properly in this control plan, which is the main contribution and novelty of this work in comparison with other control strategies. The proposed control technique provides the injection of harmonic current components of loads via the interfacing system, which is based on multilevel converter topologies and compensation of loads reactive power. Then, the active power in fundamental frequency will be supplied through the main grid and a unity Power Factor (PF) between the grid current and load voltage is obtained during the connection of nonlinear load to the grid. High performance of DLCM is validated through simulation results during dynamic and steady-state operating conditions.","PeriodicalId":334135,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG)","volume":"48 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121009585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electric machine is designed to operate in generator or motor mode. Gramme's winding is used in the construction of the analysed machine. The paper covers the load test analysis of the electric machine in generator mode. Motor mode tests are neglected in this given paper. In the real aircraft, the generator output is rectified for supplying the on-board equipment, such as batteries and other electrical devices. Hence, the tests are carried out using active load. Based on test results, the corresponding load and short-circuit characteristic is compiled. In addition, the machine's analytical values of iron and copper losses are determined. Necessity of further study is pointed out.","PeriodicalId":334135,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127416932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
