This study aims to carry some genetic variations and improvement through treating seeds of four varieties of peanut with concentrations of mutagenic substance like sodium azid. An experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm, Ismailia Research Station; Oil Crops Section- Agricultural Research Center (A.R.C). Four varieties of peanut (Giza 6, Var.112, Var.57, and Var.381) were treated with three different concentrations of sodium azide (NaN 3 ); 0.00 control (0.00), T1 (0.01) and T2 (0.03) % W/V for inducing mutation and planted in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The general mean of all 4 varieties was higher in the M1 than those in the M2 generation. T1 and T2 mutated plants displayed a high value of the stem height compared to control plants for all 4 varieties, The largest increase in branches per plant was observed in the M2 generation at a low dose of mutagen while the seeds number and 100 seeds weight were less than control at the low dose of mutagen in both generations. The values of phenotypic coefficient of variability (P.C.V. %) and genotypic coefficient of variability (G.C.V. %) were greater in the M1 generation than those in the M2 generation. GCV was less than PCV in SPAD, stem height, number of branches/plant, number of pods/plant and pod yield (Ardab / Fadden ) . While GCV was more or less equal to PCV for pod weight/plant, 100 pod weight, and seed yield (seeds number/plant, seed weight/plant, and 100 seed weight) as well as oil percentage. Heritability values exceeded 65% for all traits examined in both the M1 and M2 generations, T2 mutant plants in the M2 generation had higher heritability scores than those in the M1 generation. They scored values between 82% and 99.88% for most of the traits investigated and all studied traits recorded different values of genetic gain by selection (GS), ranging from 0.7 to 105.8 and from 2.5 to 108.7 in M1 and M2 generations, respectively. 0.01% and 0.03% of sodium azide played an important role in inducing mutation to improve the quantitative characters of selected peanut varieties.","PeriodicalId":333932,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Plant Production Sciences","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133785079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cultivars were planted under three levels of field capacity (FC);100% ,75% and 50% FC respectively with split-plot design in two winter seasons; 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. Growth, yield and its attributes characters, chlorophyll content were measured. Stress tolerance indices (geometric mean productivity (GMP), drought susceptibility index (DSI), mean productivity (MP), yield stability index (YSI), and tolerance (TOL) and genetic variations were calculated. Five primers of Inter-Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) molecular markers were used to detect the variability among cultivars. Results showed that drought caused a significant reduction in growth, yield, and its attributes characters and chlorophyll content. Giza843 has a high yield, and its attributes characters under all watering treatments. At the same time, Sakha1 and Sakha4 showed increased sensitivity to drought conditions. Sakha4 gave high yield and its component under normal conditions while Giza716 cultivar showed high yield under severe conditions. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) value was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) value for all studied traits. One hundred seeds weight trait showed the highest PCV (71.15%), GCV (70.86%), and Genetic Advance (GA) (145.38), while the root length trait showed the lowest PCV (6.49%), GCV (6.04%), and GA (11.59). Higher values of heritability and GA were obtained for pods and leaves number/ plant, pods weight / plant, and 100 seeds weight. Results of tolerance indices indicated that Giza 716 and Giza843 cultivars (cv.) were drought-tolerant cultivars through they had the highest values of MP, GMP and YSI , the lowest values of TOL and values lower than unity of DSI. ISSR analysis identified 37 loci and heterozygosity ranged from 0.736 to 0.892 with an average of 0.827. Fourteen bands were polymorphic, with 37.83% percent of polymorphism. Polymorphism information con-tent (PIC) values were ranged from 0.75 to 0.89, averaging 0.84. Ten unique bands were used as molecular markers, most obtained by HB12 primer. ISSR markers' cluster analysis divided studied cultivars into three main clusters. Genetic similarity and dendrogram were in harmony with yield traits results.","PeriodicalId":333932,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Plant Production Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114384485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulted 24 hybrids with check hybrid T.W.C 324 were evaluated in two locations (Ismailia and Mallawy Research Station) during 2019 season. The combined analysis over the two locations showed highly significant due to crosses, inbred lines (L), testers (T) and line x tester interaction (L x T) for grain yield, indicating that there is a wide diversity among the studied lines in their contribution to the performance of crosses. Line and L x T were significant for all the studied traits, except ear length and no. of rows ear-. Mean squares due to crosses x location and lines x location interaction were significant for all the studied traits, except ear diameter and no. of rows earof Lines x Location. Mean squares due to Lines x Testers x locations interaction were significant for all the studied traits. The results also showed that σ GCA was larger than those obtained by σ SCA for all the studied traits, except ear diameters. Showing that non-additive gene effects were more important component controlling the inheritance of these studied traits. Among 12 inbred lines used for study, the inbred ISM-8 showed good general combining ability with highly significant for grain yield. The best crosses ISM-3 x SC-128 and ISM-8 x SC-131 were having good specific combiners ability with highly significant for most of studied traits. The study aimed to find out the effect of five exogenous application levels of AsA and H2O2 on yellow corn hybrid 352 (three way cross) under three amounts of irrigation water (1.00. 0.80 and 0.60 of the estimated crop evapotranspiration) using surface irrigation system. A randomized complete block split-plot design with three replications was used in each season. The irrigation treatments and the levels of AsA and H2O2 were randomly allocated in the main and sub-plots, respectively. The most important findings could be summarized as follows: Irrigation by 2250 m3/fad (severe water stress) instead of 3750 m3/fad (full irrigation) reduced ear leaf blade area, total chlorophyll and relative water content in both seasons. Increasing the level of AsA up to 350ppm/fad increased ear leaf blade area, total chlorophyll and relative water content followed by the highest level of H2O2 (60mM H2O2). Decreasing irrigation water significantly reduced ear length, 100-grain weight and grain yield/fad. Meanwhile, ear length, 100-grain weight and grain yield/fad were significantly obtained from the highest level of AsA followed by the highest levels of H2O2 compared with their untreated analogues. The interaction between the both studied factors showed that application of 350ppm AsA and 60mM H2O2 treatments protected about 920 and 320 kg/fad grains from collapse under moderate water stress (3000 m3/fad). Meanwhile, under severe water stress, treatments by same levels of AsA and 30mM H2O2 protected about 670 and 330kg/fad grains from lose. Application of 350ppm AsA saved approximately 750m3/fad of irrigation water without yield reduction.","PeriodicalId":333932,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Plant Production Sciences","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131058452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These populations were collected from different regions including one check variety. These were investigated under three levels of watering (100%, 75% and 50% of field capacity), for forage yield, genetic variability and association characters during two successive summer seasons 2017 and 2018 using a Randomized Complete Block Design in a split plot. Analysis of variance was revealed significant variation (P < 0.05) among cowpea genotypes for plant length, number of shoots/plant, dry matter percent, forage fresh and dry yields/plot, expected forage fresh and dry yields/fad and water use efficiency. The irrigation levels had non-significant effects on remain traits {i.e.: plant length, number of shoots/plant in the second season, leaf/stem ratio, dry matter percent, forage fresh and dry yields/plot, expected forage dry yield/fad and water use efficiency}. Moreover, the irrigation levels and cowpea genotypes-interaction had highly significant differences for the studied traits, excepting of number of shoots/plant. Among the fourteen cowpea genotypes through the three irrigation levels, over two seasons (2017 & 2018); the Kenyan genotype named KF-122 was produced significant more crude protein (24.20%) and crude fiber (27.60%), whilst, this genotype; IN-1-14 was produced significant less crude protein (12.20%) and crude fiber (13.90%), furthermore the, the cheek Egyptian genotype named \"Buff\" was recorded, approximately, average aforementioned value over two seasons. The phenotypic variance (d2p) and phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV %) were slightly higher than corresponding genotypic variance (d2g) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV %) for the quantitative forage characters of cowpea indicated the presence of less environmental effect (d2e and ECV %) upon the concerned characters. LMMA _15 marker was discarded in data analysis because of producing only one band (monomorphic locus). Other seven markers produced total of 22 alleles with a high level of Polymorphism (~100 percent). The effective number of alleles ranged from 1.7, to 3.4 with average value of 1.47. Heterozygosity per locus varied from 0.00 to 0.75 with an average of 0.36. Polymorphic Information content (PIC) value scored from 0.41 to 0.70 with average of 0.57. The discrimination power (Dp) ranged between 0.11 and 0.72 with an average of 0.50 per locus. Generally, the genetic similarity values varied between 0.12 and 100% over 32 genotypes. A cluster analysis was used to determine genetic similarities. The dendrogram can be grouped into two major clusters (I and II). Cluster I consists of Ewais seedlings exhibiting 94-100% genetic similarity among them. Cluster II consists of all seedlings of Zebda cultivar exhibiting 52-100% genetic similarity and divided to two sub clusters. Seedling (Z_C_S2) was the most divergent in first sub cluster and second sub cluster exhibited less distance and consists of all other Zebda seedlings. This study additionally indicates that SSR markers are useful for distinguishing and characterizing mango genotypes. The genetic relatedness among these genotypes could provide useful information for conservation and selection of cross parents in breeding.","PeriodicalId":333932,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Plant Production Sciences","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124875424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulted of 28 F1 crosses along with the check hybrid SC130 were evaluated under two different nitrogen levels, i.e., 90 and 120 kg N/ fed using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Kafrelsheikh University in 2017 growing season, to estimate general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining ability effects and their interactions with nitrogen levels as well as identify type of gene action controlling the inheritance of the studied traits. Data were recorded on days to 50% silking, plant height, ear height, ear length, ear diameter, No. of rows/ear, No. of kernels/rowand grain yield (ard/fed). The results showed that, the mean squares due to nitrogen levels (D), genotypes (G), crosses (Cr.), G × N and Cr. × N interactions were significant for all the studied traits. General (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining ability mean squares were highly significant for all the studied traits under both and across nitrogen levels. Both GCA and SCA effects were significantly interacted with nitrogen levels for all the studied traits, except GCA × N for ear diameter. The non-additive gene action played an important role in the inheritance of all the studied traits under the two nitrogen levels and the combined data, except days to 50% silking under N1 level. The inbred lines P1 and P7 showed the best desirable GCA effects for earliness and P2 and P6 for shorter plants and lower ear placement. Whereas, P2, P3 and P4 were the best general combiners for grain yield. The crosses P1×P3, P2×P7, P3×P6, P4×P5 and P5×P7 had the best SCA effects for grain yield as well as one or more of its components under both and across nitrogen levels.
