This supports best practices and the effectiveness of any interventions. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the need for mandatory mental health continuing education for practicing registered nurses. This was a descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study with a sample size of 27 registered nurses working in Health care settings in the Cayman Islands. These participants were selected using non-probability sampling technique. Convenience sampling was the chosen method. A 25 items Questionnaire was used to collect the data. Closed-ended questions, and a Likert scale were used to collect the demographic data and to measure the nurses’ perceptions of the need for the intervention under study. Analysis of the data was accomplished with Microsoft Excel. Descriptive statistics were generated. The results revealed that only a few registered nurses were extremely confident (7.40%) or quite confident (37.0 4%) in their ability to manage the care of patients with mental illnesses. The majority (88.89%) of nurses believed that there is a need for continuous medical education in mental health topics and that it should be mandatory (92%) for registered nurses. They believe and that this will make them more confident in their delivery of care to patients with underlying mental illnesses. Hence, it can be concluded that continuing education in this aspect of nursing will be beneficial for both them and the patients they care for.","PeriodicalId":333762,"journal":{"name":"TEXILA INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NURSING","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129246134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Work-Based Learning (WBL) provides real-life work experiences by enhancing skills, ability to learn throughout one’s career and providing quality care. This article describes baccalaureate nurses’ ease to engage in and practice WBL, perceived usefulness, and the relationships between perceived ease and usefulness to practice. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was carried out at 11 hospitals in central Uganda. An Open Data Kit (ODK) designed, and the pre-tested structured tool was used to collect data from 251 purposively selected baccalaureate nurses. Measurement of ease, usefulness, and practice was guided by four competencies: self-regulation, effective communication, teamwork, and evidence-based practice. Descriptive and logistic analysis using SPSS 20 was performed. More than half of the respondents perceived it as easy to engage in WBL (Mean 1.65; SD 0.48). The Majority perceived WBL as useful to the individual, institution, patient or family, and care delivery (Mean 3.37; SD 0.45). The Majority practiced WBL (Mean 1.99; SD 0.11). Perceived usefulness of WBL to the institution was the statistically significant predictor for practice (B=3.97; p<0.05; 95% CI. 4.40). Baccalaureate nurses’ ease to engage in and practice WBL was at the borderline, but they perceive it useful. Perceived usefulness to institutions may require strong policies and guidelines for WBL to support nurses’ engagement and promote up-to-date knowledge and skills for better service delivery. There is a need to test the model and explore other factors that influence WBL among baccalaureate nurses.","PeriodicalId":333762,"journal":{"name":"TEXILA INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NURSING","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131171938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The virus COVID-19 is transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. The droplets are too heavy to hang in the air and quickly fall on floors or surfaces. A person gets infected by touching a contaminated surface and then his eyes, nose, or mouth (WHO,2020). COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization. The most common symptoms are fever, dry cough, tiredness. The fewer common symptoms are aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache and loss of taste or smell, a rash on the skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes. Most people who fall sick with COVID-19 will experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover without special treatment. 80% will recover from the disease without needing special treatment (WHO,2020). Around one in every five people who are infected with COVID-19 develop difficulty in breathing and require hospital care. People aged over 60 years and people who have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease, or hypertension are among those who are at greater risk. The distance to facilities limits facility-based births for women in rural areas. In 2013, the government incorporated maternity homes into the health system at the community level to increase facility-based births and reduce maternal mortality. Despite the policy to stopping traditional birth attendants from conducting deliveries at home and encouraging all women to give birth at the health facility under skilled care, many women still give birth at home. An exploratory cross section survey was used to gather data by conducting structured interviews with 50 women of childbearing age who had a recent or previous home delivery. The following factors were found to be associated with home deliveries in surrounding villages in kashikishi; abrupt onset/precipitate labor, long distance/transport difficulties to reach the nearest health facility, having had successful HD, poverty/low income and gender though having a small percentage. Parity in which the majority were multiparas’ women, attitude was also associated with home deliveries and other unforeseen circumstances such as a funeral and being alone at home at the onset of labour.","PeriodicalId":333762,"journal":{"name":"TEXILA INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NURSING","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131841238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, little is known about the lived experiences of caregivers of breast cancer patients. The study aimed to understand the lived experiences of caregivers of patients with breast cancer. A Gadamerian-phenomenological approach and Van Manen methodological approach were used in the study. Data were collected using in-depth individual interviews. Researchers utilized unstructured which was aided with audio and/or video recorders. Seven participants included, who provide regular assistance in their activities of daily living, whose age from 21 -65. Data transcription and analysis used van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenological approach. The meaning of lived experiences of caregivers of patients with breast cancer revealed thematic categories: caregivers being human, challenges as a caregiver thoughts and emotions emerging, lifting life above illness, caring as a choice, support despite challenges, strengthened relationship, light during darkness, escape amidst difficulties, accepting inevitable death, accepting a loss of a loved one. It revealed that there is diversity in caregiving experiences among the participants despite going through the same situation, sharing nearly similar experiences of giving care to these patients. The study asserts that there is universality of the caregiving phenomenon across cultures similar or otherwise even with subsets of smaller cultures. The study can potentially benefit any agencies or institutions that renders care to patient with cancer. This study can potentially add credence to their efforts of providing support mechanisms to the caregivers of breast cancer patients.","PeriodicalId":333762,"journal":{"name":"TEXILA INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NURSING","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121666491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, our study aimed at Awareness & Knowledge of Sickle Cell Disease in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study was conducted from October 2018 to February 2019. A questionnaire was distributed among 154 persons selected from among the general public. Most (75.0%) had heard of SCD and 35.0% knew that it can be diagnosed by a blood test, but 33.3% did not know the prevalence of SCD in Nigeria. 50(41.7%) recognized it as a hereditary disorder. Professional/university students gave the most correct answers; Females showed better knowledge than males and married persons seems to know more about SCD than unmarried ones. There is a fair level of knowledge about SCD among the respondents, though some of the respondents were confused about the difference between the carrier state of a disease and the disease itself. Health education should be intensified to impact sufficient comprehensive knowledge about SCD to enable the public take informed decision about their marriage so as to prevent procreation of children affected with SCD.","PeriodicalId":333762,"journal":{"name":"TEXILA INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NURSING","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130905514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 6-step process of IMP which includes (1) Logic Model of the Problem, (2) Logic Model of Change, (3) Intervention Design, (4) Intervention Production, (5) Implementation Plan and (6) Evaluation Plan was followed which resulted to a selfadministered, computer-based intervention, which embedded theory-based strategies into a learning management system for implementation. The effect of the intervention was determined through a quasi-experimental, one group pretest-posttest design involving 31 operating room nurses of Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital. E-learning self-efficacy was measured using the Modified E-learning Readiness Assessment Tool (MERAT). The median score for e-learning self-efficacy among the participants of the study during pretest was 66, with scores ranging from 43 to 78. The e-learning self-efficacy median score increased to 72, with scores ranging from 53 to 80, during the posttest. Data were statistically treated using Wilcoxon Signed-ranks test. The difference between the pretest and posttest scores was found to be significant with p<0.05 at 95% level of confidence (z=-3.103, p=0.002). A medium effect size (r=0.56) was reflected in the analysis. This study highlighted the potential of IMP as a systematic framework to develop evidence-based interventions in the field of nursing.","PeriodicalId":333762,"journal":{"name":"TEXILA INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NURSING","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124868176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analyses of survey data provide us with valuable information specific to nurse's perceptions in a different work environment. It might forecast aid in innovative decision-making processes. Method: A descriptive survey with Hess Index of professional nursing governance was used in the study. All RNs working on the clinical side and in the administrative area are selected to participate in the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Results: Data analysis in the study revealed RN s perception towards the type of governance was determined by the mean score and find out that shared governance is practiced as per the guidelines set up by the IPNG Tool. As per the objective of my study, it revealed that there is no significant difference in the perception between administrative nurses and clinical side nurses in all IPNG subscale, It can be due to the difference in the number of participants, as 13% of administrative nurses only participated in a survey whereas 87% were clinical nurses. Comparing the clinical specialty with subscales showed a significant difference in participation, goals, and practice where P value is < 0.05, and also related to education. But no significant difference noticed among age or gender. Conclusion: This study seeks to understand the relationship between different perceptions and views related to shared governance.","PeriodicalId":333762,"journal":{"name":"TEXILA INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NURSING","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129092614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
