Because SRSs sent by up to 8 users are multiplexed on the same time-frequency resources, there exist mutual interferences among these SRSs over fading channels. Thus the current scheme inevitably impacts the estimation accuracy of CSI and thereby degrades the beamforming performance. Based on the characteristics of TDD systems, we propose a novel sounding scheme to improve the quality of CSI, in which according to the CQIs (channel quality indications) periodically reported by each user and the bandwidth requirement of each user, BS schedules each user to send SRSs only on the requisite bandwidth with best CQIs instead of on full bandwidth or specified sub-bandwidth as in the current LTE TDD systems. Simulations show that the proposed scheme outperforms the current scheme in estimation accuracy for various frequency-selective and/or time-selective fading channels, and is especially robust to frequency selective channels. The proposed scheme has been adopted as a candidate scheme for 3GPP LTE-Advanced.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"2011 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114915017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To guarantee the reliable multicast, packet retransmission schemes are employed. With one source, network coding has been well studied for the reliable multicast. But for the multicast cell with two sources, the presented schemes are not good enough to approach an impressive effect with the multiple receivers, demands and link situations. In this paper, for the 2-1-(D1,D2) multicast cell, which has two sources, one relay and two groups users with the receivers numbers of D1 and D2, we propose three schemes to reduce the number of retransmission, which combine the lost packets and retransmit them with network coding, and obtains the least number of retransmissions. Some theoretical results are derived on the bandwidth efficiency of the traditional automatic repeat-request scheme (ARQ), network coding with ARQ scheme (XOR-ARQ) and the improved network coding with ARQ scheme (iXOR-ARQ). Compared with ARQ and XOR-ARQ, iXOR-ARQ is more advantageous on the bandwidth efficiency and the coding gain, which has been confirmed by both simulations and theoretical analysis.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115045861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cellular networks considered, unlike GSM systems, allocate variable radio resource sizes to users even for constant bit-rate (CBR) traffic. The Grade of Service is the call blocking probability. It is shown that the blocking probability (Pb) varies with user distance from the Base Station (BS). It is also shown that the effective cell-radius varies for different services (bit-rates) given a certain GoS. Furthermore the variation of useful area of a cell along with offered load is shown for different services. If maximizing energy efficiency is one of the considerations in deploying a cellular network, then it is shown that the optimum transmit power for a cell layout is different when GoS is used as the criterion as compared to minimum throughput or minimum Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) at cell edge.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117045123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the cell splitting gain can only be achieved when both co-tier interference and cross-tier interference are properly handled. To reduce cross-tier interference on the low SINR and interference limited UEs, a dynamic scheme of frequency reservation for interference coordination (DFR-IC) is proposed in this paper. Two factors to model the co-tier and cross-tier interference ratio of user equipments (UEs), namely RImacro and RIpico, are introduced. Proper numbers of resource blocks (RBs) in each tier are reserved for these UEs to enhance their SINRs. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can greatly improve the performance of the UEs at cell edge, but it decreases marginal throughput compared to full-reuse and non-reuse scheme.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116332499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many transmission scheduling algorithms have been proposed to maximize the spatial reuse and minimize the time-division multiple-access (TDMA) frame length in mobile ad hoc networks. Most algorithms are dependent on the exact network topology and cannot adapt to the dynamic topology in a mobile wireless network. To overcome this limitation, several topology-transparent scheduling algorithms have been proposed. The slots are assigned to guarantee that there is at least one collision-free time slot in each frame. In this paper, we consider multicast and broadcast, and propose a novel topology-transparent distributed scheduling algorithm. Instead of guaranteeing at least one collision-free transmission, the proposed algorithm guarantees one successful transmission exceeding a given probability, and achieves a much better average throughput. The simulation results show that the performance of our proposed algorithm is much better than the conventional TDMA and other existing algorithms in most cases.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123603907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the FH/MFSK WSN, the multiple SEs of each with multiple states are observed by a common group of local sensors (LSNs), each of which observes simultaneously all the SEs. The LSNs convey their decisions through wireless channels to the fusion center (FC) with the aid of MFSK and FH. At the FC, the SEs' states are detected using noncoherent fusion rules. In this contribution, two noncoherent fusion rules are investigated. The first one is the equal gain combining (EGC) fusion rule, while the second one uses both the EGC and iterative interference cancellation (IIC), which is referred to as the EGC-IIC fusion rule. The detection performance of the FH/MFSK WSN employing the proposed EGC or EGC-IIC fusion rule is investigated, when assuming the wireless channels experience independent Rayleigh fading. Our studies show that the FH/MFSK WSN may constitute one of the promising WSN schemes for some special application scenarios. It is capable of monitoring simultaneously multiple SEs of each with multiple states, is low-complexity owing to using the noncoherent fusion rule and, furthermore, is capable of achieving promising detection performance, as it can make use of the diversity in both frequency and space domains.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123937095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventionally, the decision of available spectrum for cognitive radio (CR) users is carried out based on the global decision at a fusion center (FC). In this paper, we propose a new CSS scheme to improve the spectrum sensing performance by exploiting both local decisions at the CR users and global decisions at the FC. Particularly, by deriving the probabilities of missed detection and false alarm for a practical scenario where all sensing, reporting, and backward channels suffer from Rayleigh fading, we show that our proposed CSS scheme achieves an improved sensing performance over the conventional scheme. Furthermore, we propose a CSS scheme based on network coding (NC) for a specific CWRN where the transmission from a source node to a destination node is realized with the aid of two groups of CR users located in the transmission coverage of two primary users (PUs). The proposed NC-based CSS scheme helps reduce one phase of sensing for a higher system throughput compared to the conventional scheme which requires eight phases in total to monitor all available spectrums of both PUs.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123974528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal is to minimize the time taken for the diffusion process to terminate at a goal state. Due to bandwidth and storage constraints, whenever two nodes encounter each other, they must decide which content if any to transfer to each other. While most prior work on this topic has focused on practically realizable heuristics for this problem, we take a more formal approach. Our main contribution is to show that, assuming global state information is available, this problem can be formulated as a stochastic shortest path problem, which is a kind of Markov decision process (MDP). Using this formulation, we numerically explore some small-scale examples for which we are able to obtain the optimal solution. The results show that the optimal diffusion strategy is very much a function of the underlying encounter graph.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124456266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brute-force searching is the optimal scheduling, pairing and ordering algorithm. However, the optimal brute-force searching method is too computationally prohibitive, especially in case of the large number of users. This paper proposes a novel 2-dimensional grid based scheduling scheme for uplink MU-MIMO transmission using either the conventional proportional fairness metric or delta scheduling metric. Comparing to the scheduling approach using the conventional priority based pairing metric, the proposed scheduling algorithm based on delta scheduling metric could obtain approximate 7% gain for both cell and cell-edge throughput gain with neglectful computational complexity increase. With the aid of successive interference cancellation, MU-MIMO with MMSE-SIC receiver could also improve the cell-edge throughput compared to SU-MIMO. The advantage of the proposed scheme is that it can improve the throughput performance without the sacrifice of the user fairness guarantee.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126161592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
