The shovel-truck system is the use of loading and dumping units in the transportation of materials. The shovel-truck system has wide application in open pit mining. Animation of a shovel-truck system in Arena® is a reflection of the logic defined by the module’s flowcharts. Arena® software is a widely used simulation software based on Discrete Events. The data were analysed by an input analyser tool in Arena® software to get distributions and expressions for the shovel-truck system. The shovel-truck system was then modelled in the software. The developed animated model depicts the exact activities in open pit mines.","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47547129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has prompted numerous research into ways in which commercially deployed wireless communication technologies can be used to monitor, control and manage such energy. Analysis of many of such electrical energy management systems reveal inherent complexities in their deployment and operation. This has therefore motivated the proposal of a remotely operated electrical energy management system (ROEEMS). The proposed system is designed to manage electrical energy from three different sources such as commercial grid, photovoltaic arrays, and portable generator, and give an output depending on requirements of its operator. ROEEMS has been designed to overcome some challenges in existing systems such as system complexity and security demands (as is typical of Internet and server-based systems). The proposed design allows ROEEMS to achieve a truly remote operation mode while requiring limited operator skills and a comparatively reduced cost of installation and operation. Leaching tests were done using the Response Surface Methodology with the process variables being leaching time, temperature, acid concentration and glucose dose. Regression equations were obtained from the experimental data for the extraction of manganese and zinc, and the main effects and interactions from the leaching studies were investigated by the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Experimental results indicate that the dissolution of the battery materials depends largely on the leaching temperature and glucose dose, with the optimum yield of manganese and zin-c being 81.93 and 98.43 %, respectively corresponding to a leaching temperature of 70oC, leaching time of 150 min, sulphuric acid concentration of 4 M and glucose dose of 0.5 g/L. The mode of buying and selling by Nigerians have moved from traditional to digital, whereby consumers buy and sell goods online. The online presence of commerce is known as Electronic commerce or E-commerce and it is an initiative amongst other emerging digital sectors in Nigeria that has witnessed substantive growth recently. However, the issues of security, privacy of data and the trust endeared by users on the initiative remains a challenging one. Presently in Nigeria, the solutions to combat security concerns of E-commerce are technically inclined and therefore do not sufficiently capture the solution paradigm. Due to a rise in these E-commerce‘s security-related concerns in Nigeria as discovered by taking random samples of the population used for the survey, this research proposes a Security, Trust and Privacy model for the survival of E-commerce in Nigeria. This paper investigates the causes as well as sources of air pollution in the indoor and outdoor environment. It identifies anthropogenic activities related such as transportation and other activities involving the combustion of fossil fuel as the major causes of air pollution. The several and diverse health implications of air pollution were highlighted. The dangerous nature of carbon monoxide was x-rayed and the common indoor and outdoor sources were discussed. The risks of carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes and vehicle exhaust were clearly enumerated. Particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5 and ultra fine PM) were clearly shown to be the major casue of chronic and fatal respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Indoor air quality, which is usually overlooked was brought to the fore and shown to be worse than outdoor air quaility in some cases, especially where ventilation is poor. The inextricable link between air pollution and climate change was also established. Mitigative measure such as policies/acts, replacement of fossil fuel with solar PVs, replacement of conventional vehicles with electric vehicles and establishment of urban forests were discussed. Frequent and evenly distributed air quality monitoring, especially using android-enabled portable devices was broached. Besides, policies and other global approaches, individuals must adopt personal protective measures to protect themselves from the menace of air pollution. A pilot study on waste generation activities in Galadimawa District of Abuja was carried out and the results were applied to the metropolis as a whole due to the observed similarities in the demographics of Galadimawa and other Districts in the metropolis. The city of Abuja presently has an annual MSW generation rate of 973,557 tons with a per capita generation of 0.77 kg/day. Waste fractions for the metropolis were also analysed and discounting materials that have recycling value, energy bearing fractions of organic and textile wastes were found to be 59.5%. This translates to 579266.42 tons per annum and with an aggregate higher heating value (HHV) of 15.84 MJ/kg for this fraction, this approximates to about 9.2 x 109 MJ/annum of realisable energy. Using a typical waste-to-energy (WTE) plant efficiency of 44% it is seen that Abuja’s MSW can support a power generating plant with a capacity of 128 MW. This potential far exceeds the energy being presently delivered to Abuja city from the national grid which is about 80 MW.","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42494583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally taken into account in this study are the effects of thermophoresis and Brownian motion. The linked non-linear partial differential equations that control nanofluid flow can be reduced to couple non-linear ordinary differential equations using local similarity variables, which can then be numerically solved using the Spectral Collocation technique, as demonstrated in the current flow mathematical modeling. Both qualitative and quantitative data are presented to show how flow control settings affect fluid flow, temperature, and nanoparticle concentration. The study also, investigated the effect of PET aggregate on the compressive strength of concrete. Mix design targeting grade 25 concrete strength, using the Department of Environment (DOE) approach was adopted. Five different concrete samples were prepared accordingly, using natural aggregate as control mix and four others which consist of PET aggregate as partial replacement of fine aggregate at 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% ratios respectively. The recycled fine aggregate (PET) was processed from bottle water waste, it was crushed, pressed and processed into finely material having river sand resemblance i.e., well distributed within sieve sizes of 0.075 and 2.00. The batching was done by weight. Cubes specimens were prepared, cured for 7, 14, and 28days and tested for compression. The results of the tests were analyzed statistically using regression method (Mintab) to establish optimal strength require mixture. The results and analysis established that there were reduction in compressive strength of the concrete containing PET aggregate and reduction rates increased with increase in the amount of PET inclusion in the concrete. The compressive strength values for 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% replacement of sand with PET at 28-day were 29.70N/mm2 , 25.95N/mm2 , 24.28N/mm2 and 23.23N/mm2 respectively. When compared with the control concrete specimens with an average value of 33.08N/mm2 gave 11.38%, 27.48%, 36.24% and 42.40% reduction in strength respectively. It was recommended that, though, the use of PET aggregate in the production of concrete does not have significant appreciable effect on the concrete strength, its use will protect the environment and as well help to conserve natural resources used as materials in production of concrete elements which currently undergo excessive depletion. Collected samples of sand were tested in the laboratory to determine their physical properties. The properties considered are gradation, specific gravity, water absorption, moisture content, bulking, and percentage silt content. The result of the sieve analysis indicates that while the gradation of some of the samples is within the specified values specified in standards, others do not conform. The values of the coefficient of uniformity and coefficient of curvature is between the range of 3.6 – 10 and 0.53 – 2.56 respectively. The values of the results of specific gravity, water absorption, the moisture content are within the range of 2.67 – 2.86, 0.67% – 2.04%, 0.75% – 3.17% respectively. Based on the fact that the result of the test on the properties of the samples tested are in accordance with the specifications in relevant codes as discussed in the body of this work, it can be concluded that most of the samples are suitable for concrete production while the gradation of some of the samples needed to be modified to conform to the required grading.
