The processing steps include  milling, sieving, pressing/shaping, drying, and sintering while the characterisation techniques were Hardness, Compressive strength, X-ray diffraction,  Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The mixture was subjected to temperatures of 1100 and 1200 oC in a sintering  furnace. The chemical composition was determined using X-ray fluorescence and they confirm that SiO2 and Al2O3 are the two major constituents in  feldspar and kaolin while CaO is the major constituent in bone ash. For samples sintered at 1200oC, the X-ray diffraction showed that some glass phase possibly consisting of hedenbergite, ilmenite and silica were formed while crystalline phases namely microcline and sanidine were obtained for samples  sintered at 1100°C. The morphology of the grains revealed that samples sintered at 1200oC had some hexagonal silica crystals while flakes of different  sizes were obtained for samples sintered at 1100oC. Hardness values between 262 and 536 BHN, compressive modulus values ranging from 219 MPa to  324 MPa and linear shrinkage values between 6.34 and 7.6% were obtained. The batches of different compositions with ranges: quartz (silica) (15-25%),  feldspar (70-80%), kaolin (Edda/Bauchi) (4%) and bone ash (1%) were fired at 1100, 1200oC, and the developed properties were tested. The sample with 70  wt.% of feldspar, 25 wt.% silica, 4 wt.% of Bauchi clay, and 1 wt.% bone ash sintered at 1200oC gave the best properties and has the potential to be  used in dental restoration.","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45576539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the extent to which functional units/departments integrate within and amongst them and the  effectiveness of the integration is not fully understood. This paper reports the results of a study carried out in three purposively selected large construction organisations that operate at national level, with the aim of assessing the extent of, and the effectiveness of their intra-firm integration.  Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the data collected across the three organisations. Findings indicated that every department engaged in internal  integration practices (communication and information sharing, coordination and resource sharing, and organisational relationships) in varying  proportions, and the effectiveness of the practices equally varied amongst the departments. 47% of the departments indicated that the extent of  integration within and between them was high and effective, 22% indicated a moderate level and somewhat effective integration, while 31% indicated  that the extent of their integration was low and ineffective. It is concluded that internal integration, when effectively done within and across functional  units and departments, would enhance the internal operational efficiency and the external integrative capabilities that would increase competitive  performance of organisations.  ","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44246886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This was done  to ascertain the effect of stratification due to sunlight on pond parameters. An experimental approach was adopted which involved pouring wastewater  into a glass column apparatus and exposing to sunlight for 7, 14, and 21 days. The statues of 16 physicochemical and microbiological parameters were  investigated in the three strata under consideration. Analysis of the samples collected at depths A, B and C, 30cm apart, starting from the top indicated  different values of temperature, pH, and nutrients. Maximum values of temperature (32.9 0C), pH (7.9), turbidity (3.46 NTU), and iron (1.86 mg/l), were  recorded at the top layer; while the concentration of conductivity (906 μS/cm), total dissolved solids (589 mg/l), BOD5 (400mg/l), ammonia (290 mg/l),  total coliform (126,000 cfu/100ml), and E. Coli (99,000 cfu/100ml) were highest at bottom layer. Conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, iron,  phosphorus and nitrates fell within World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. A combination of sunlight with high pH and oxygen concentrations is needed for sunlight to have very significant effects. It is recommended that WSPs be designed with the consideration given to pond dimensions that will  provide a wider surface area for sufficient sunlight and oxygen to be acquired. ","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47484418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the study, spatial  distribution, temporal variations, annual distribution, estimation and prediction of the solar radiation, minimum and maximum temperature data in the  Ibadan Metropolis was collected. A Long Short-Term Memory Neural Network (LSTM-NN) model was developed for the prediction using the time-series  data obtained. An ARIMA model was further developed to compare and validate the LSTM-NN model. The performance of the prediction models were  determined using the root mean square error (RMSE) and the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The RMSE values for the minimum, maximum  temperature and solar radiation predictions were 1.543, 1.290, 1.967, and 1.611, 1.309, 2.106 for the LSTM-NN and ARIMA models respectively, while the  MAPE values for the minimum, maximum temperature and solar radiation predictions were 3.603, 4.351, 8.859, and 3.840, 4.480, 9.502 for the LSTM-NN  and ARIMA models respectively. The LSTM-NN model had a better prediction performance in all categories with lower error when compared with ARIMA.  From the prediction, it was observed that there will be a reduction in the maximum temperature, minimum temperature and solar radiation values when  compared to obtained data. The observed minimum temperature ranged from 22.9032-23.2032(0C), while the predicted minimum temperature ranged  from 19.9260- 19.977(0C) also the observed maximum temperature ranged from 32.87096-33.7064(0C), while the predicted maximum temperature  ranged from 29.5159-29.5529(0C), the observed solar radiation ranged from 19.203-19.722 (W/m2 ), while the predicted solar radiation ranged from  14.123-14.115 (W/m2 ). The year with the highest solar radiation which constitutes the useful energy is 2024 with an average value of 14.1395 W/m2  ","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46513678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies have developed project scope-based and non-scopebased rework cost predictive models. However, researchers have criticized the  accuracy of these models because of their weaknesses in giving individualistic treatments to project scope-based and non- scope-based rework cost influencing factors. This study therefore aimed at developing rework cost predictive models that combine the synergistic effects of both project scope- based and non-scope-based rework cost factors. 440 sample size was drawn from 2,638 population of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) building  projects constructed between 2009 to 2015. Data of 287 (65%) of 440 (sample size) of completed TETfund building projects on project scope factors as  well as the extent of influence of the non-scope factors on cost of rework in TETfund building projects was collected. Principal Component Analysis (PCA)  and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) were used in developing an integrated rework cost predictive model. More accuracy was achieved in the integrated  model through the incorporation of impact of project scope and non-scope influencing factors into rework cost prediction model, this increased the  variability in cost of rework to R2 = 0.759 (75.9%), while errors in rework cost predictions reduced by as much as 9.75%.The model serve as useful tool  used to enhance accuracy of rework cost predictions for TETfund building contractors, thus reduce cost of rework for building construction projects.","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":"102 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41245039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the known nonlinear deterministic model of the  system is solved using method of discretized perturbation. Precisely, this study obtained the nonlinear natural frequency of simply supported flexible  pipes modelled using the large strain deformation theory. The main reason for black olive oil (BLO) as the choice material relies on its  inherent hydrophobic properties. The effect of BLO admixture on strength and permeability properties of concrete grade C30 was experimentally  examined. BLO was integrated into the fresh concrete mix at percentages of 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7% and 1% by weight of cement content and a water-cement  ratio of 0.5 was used throughout the study. Compressive and flexural strength, permeability properties in terms of water adsorption, porosity, coefficient  of permeability and sorptivity of the concrete samples were investigated after curing in water at 3, 7, 28, 60, 90 and 180days hydration period. The BLO  test admixture acted as a workability improving admixture and air entraining admixture in the fresh concrete. The various water permeability parameters  of BLO-concrete samples were significantly improved for all the percentage inclusion of BLO. However, the mechanical strength properties of  concrete sample containing the admixture decreased steadily with increase in BLO content. The 28days compressive strength of 03%, 05%, 0.7% and  1% BLO concrete samples decreased approximately by 3%, 13%, 6% and 13% respectively.The adverse impact on the strength properties of BLO-concrete  mixes attributed to the effect of increased air content and workability induced by the BLO admixture can be compensated by reducing the water-cement ratio. The 0.3% BLO-concrete which exhibited the least reduction in strength and also meeting the design strength required for residential buildings is  considered the optimum content.  ","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42905143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigation involves in-situ collection of the disturbed and undisturbed soil samples and were  analysed in the laboratory based on British Standard (BS) method for soil testing for civil engineers. Results of the study reveals that; The Atterberg limit  (Liquid limit ranged from 33.0% to 43.0%, Plastic limits from 16.23% to 26.37%, Linear shrinkage from 7.86% to 15.71%, Plasticity index from 7.63% to  24.77%). The Sieve analysis shows that; the percentage passing of the soil samples ranges from 31.62% to 67.60% which indicates poor materials. The  Direct shear test revealed that the cohesive strength (c) ranges from 13 kN/m2 to 24 kN/m2 , angle of internal friction (ø)° from 12° to 16° and unit weight  (ϒ) from 18.17 kN/m3 to 20.87 kN/m3 . From the Consolidation test; the Total settlement (Pc) ranges from 0.0008 m to 0.013 m, Coefficient of  Consolidation (Cv) from 87.657 m2 /yr to 109.325 m2 /yr and Volume Compressibility (Mv) from 0.0048 kN/m2 to 0.0205 kN/m2 . The Soil pH ranges from  6.4 to 7.4, Specific gravity (SG) from 2.57 to 2.73, and Natural Moisture Content (NMC) from 8.48% to 25.77%. The Compaction test revealed that; the  Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) ranged from 13.22% to 20.60%, Maximum Dry Density (MDD) from 1.59 g/cm3 to 1.88 g/cm3 which shows that the soil  are mostly of silty-clay material and Un-soaked value of California Bearing Ratio (CBR) ranges from 50.88% to 96.51%. The findings have revealed that, the  sub-soil is characteristically fair to poor, and this required a form of geotechnics. Consequently, these drawbacks lead to sub-optimal aircraft stability and performance  when exposed to time varying disturbances. Hence, to curb the stated problems; this paper proposes the development of a deep reinforcement learning  (DRL) pitch-rate CAS (qCAS), aimed at guaranteeing adaptive stability, pitch-rate control tracking and disturbance rejection across the longitudinal  dynamics of an aircraft. This stated aim was actualized by developing a CAS with a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) agent. Subsequently, this proposed method was compared with two classical qCAS methods (a developed PID-aCAS and a benchmark PIqCAS obtained from literature). The results  show that the developed DDPG-qCAS method outperformed the classical methods in peak overshoot, referemce command tracking and disturbance  rejection as well as mean absolute error (MSE) and mean steady state error (MSSE). Hence, it can be inferred that it is important to apply artificially  intelligent controllers to the flight control systems of aircraft in order to achieve superior time response, control command tracking accuracy and  disturbance rejection.","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49634232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The uneconomic materials (wastes) are stacked in a convenient place for  further use or stored permanently as a slope or embankment. In Ghana, a typical gold mine set up dumping sites to accommodate the waste generated  from its operations. Samples were collected from three waste dumps and tested in the laboratory, and the parameters obtained were used as input for  2D model development. The Factor of Safety (FS) of the three waste dumps were determined using the Janbu Generalised slope stability analysis method.  Path and slope surface (circular and non-circular) search methods were used for the three cases. The FS for the waste dumps were determined and  ranged from 1.61-2.74, 1.49- 2.50 and 1.32-2.10 under dry, static and pseudo-static loading conditions, respectively. These values exceed the minimum  requirements of 1.1-1.5 for stability conditions. The geometry of the waste dumps, Suraw Waste Dump (SWD), is within the standard and hence, does not  require reshaping, while the slope angles for the remaining waste dumps, Tano Waste Dump (TWD) and Akoti Waste Dump (AWD) need to be reshaped to  achieve the proposed slope angle of 3H:1V (18.40 degrees) as stipulated in the mine’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). ","PeriodicalId":33360,"journal":{"name":"Nigerian Journal of Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45910470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
