Here, multimedia contents are required to be reliably delivered to processes in a real-time manner. Multimedia contents are distributed to peers in various ways like downloading. A peer which holds a content can provide other peers with the content. In our distributed multi-source streaming model, a collection of peers in parallel and redundantly transmit packets of a multimedia content to a requesting peer to realize the reliability and scalability without centralized controller. Even if some peer is faulty and packets are lost and delayed, a requesting peer receives every data of a content at the required rate. Furthermore, multiple peers start transmitting packets to a leaf peer and change packets to be transmitted and transmission rate without centralized controller to support shorter response time.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117183122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Gesture Cube is designed to be an unobtrusive and playful interaction device for controlling media appliances. In an explorative user study, we analyzed user requirements; in particular we were interested in the set of meaningful gestures that users would think of. Based on this, a digitally augmented cube for controlling home appliances and computer applications has been designed. Gestures are used as the main form of input for interaction with the system. To illustrate the feasibility of our user interface, we present two applications, a 3D visualization of the cube’s state and an MP3 player. These applications were evaluated and showed that gesture interfaces can provide a playful and yet efficient means for interaction with everyday devices.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117222226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such deployment scenarios, localization of individual robots is essential for enabling many applications. In this paper, we propose CoCoA, Coordinated Cooperative localization for mobile multi-robot Ad Hoc Networks, that is low-cost, quickly deployable, energy-efficient, and provides reasonable accuracy for the applications. In CoCoA, only a subset of the robots in the mobile robot team are equipped with external localization devices (e.g. GPS, laser rangers, vision sensors). Subsequently, while robots perform their tasks, they cooperate to help localize each other without requiring static landmarks to be deployed. In addition, CoCoA coordinates the localization operations of robots to reduce energy consumption. Using detailed simulations and localization models calibrated from experimental data, we find that CoCoA is effective in reducing energy consumption while providing good localization accuracy.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125088634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The location information is able to be provided by location sensors, GPS devices, and so forth. In a typical on-demand routing scheme LAR (Location-Aided Routing) with location information has possibility to increase the number of control packets, because LAR uses flooding for route generation and route maintenance. Therefore, we present a new routing scheme GOLI (Greedy On-demand routing using Location Information) which can reduce the number of control packets and assure data packets to deliver to the destination node. Then, we show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme by simulation experiments.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115460182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of query results in blind schemes is low. Informed schemes use simple heuristics that lack the theoretical background to support the simulation results. In this paper, we propose to improve searching by reinforcement learning (RL), which has been proven in artificial intelligence to be able to learn the best sequence of actions in order to achieve a certain goal. Our approach, ISRL (intelligent searching by reinforcement learning), aims at locating the best path to desired files at low cost. It explores new paths by forwarding queries to randomly chosen neighbors. It also exploits the paths that have been discovered to reduce the cumulative query cost. Two models of ISRL are proposed: the basic ISRL for finding one desired file, and MP-ISRL (multipath ISRL) for finding multiple desired files. ISRL outperforms existing searching approaches in unstructured P2Ps by achieving higher query quality with less query traffic. The experimental result supports the performance improvement of ISRL.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129935436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper the architecture design on the protocol stack implementation of SIP terminal mobility is described, and the performance of SIP user agents developed with open-source libraries are measured from empirical experiments. The experiments are performed in both IPv4 and IPv6 environment. In the best case, the delay of SIP mobility only takes 38ms in SIP signaling exchange, for both IPv4 and IPv6. Therefore, SIP mobility is suitable for supporting seamless handover in VoIP communications.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124155020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most existing publish/subscribe middleware assumes that the overlay topology is static. Those that consider reconfiguration, exchange a single link that is torn down by another link that comes up. However, they do not guarantee that no notifications are lost or duplicated nor do they ensure any message ordering policy. In this paper, we discuss the dynamic reconfiguration of publish/subscribe systems which are built on content-based routing. We present algorithms that allow for reconfigurations without notification loss or duplication that can also ensure FIFO-publisher and causal ordering. Moreover, the efficiency of reconfigurations is increased by limiting their effects to those parts of the network which are directly affected by the reconfiguration.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125956677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In context of verification of these adaptive systems, the verification needs to be done for the system before adaptation, for the system during adaptation, and for the system after adaptation. In our previous work, we presented an approach based on transitional-invariant lattice for verifying the correctness of dynamic adaptation. The size (number of nodes and edges) of the lattice affects the complexity of verifying and testing the adaptation. The size of the lattice itself is dependent on the number of steps in the adaptation, and the concurrency (dependency) among those steps. In this paper, we discuss various tradeoffs that arise because of concurrency during adaptation.","PeriodicalId":333505,"journal":{"name":"26th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops (ICDCSW'06)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131033176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
