It avoids the premature death of the closest cluster-head (CH) for multi-hop protocols using hierarchical network clustering. FoRoC introduces two items: first, to take into consideration the node's local informations during CHs selection steps, such as remaining energy and its coefficient of variation. And secondly, it also combines one-hop and multi-hop elementary path routing methods for data transfer for inter-cluster communication as a unique path. Furthermore, periodically changing the role between CH or end-node, and periodically changing the route between CHs and base-station, balances the CHs energy consumption. For going further towards the ideal energy balance which is illustrated by a coefficient of synchronous death. Simulation results show that the FoRoC shows great performance in terms of energy consumption and the network lifetime. Lifetime is increased by 80% compared to one-hop protocols. Compared to multi-hop protocol, FoRoC reaches a coefficient of synchronous death of 2.09.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122684422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OpenFlow can be deployed on wireless mesh network, a multi-hop relaying wireless network, for efficient network traffic management. Furthermore, various challenges such as load-balancing and control traffic management of wireless mesh networks can be effectively handled with the OpenFlow central controller. In this paper, we develop an OpenFlow wireless mesh network testbed to investigate various performance metrics (e.g., throughput, latency, CPU usage, and control traffic) for full mesh and partial mesh network topologies. Furthermore, we measure empirical controller capacity, a new metric we defined to evaluate the OpenFlow wireless mesh network controller performance. We also address various implementation challenges of real-world OpenFlow wireless mesh networks.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128335602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN) allows wireless systems to exploit the unused licensed spectrum, while the licensed users or primary users (PUs) remain idle. In order to provide dynamic spectrum access (DSA) to these wireless systems or secondary users (SUs), it is necessary to sense the spectrum to identify the unused licensed channels. In this paper, we propose a co-operative sensing scheme, along with a complementary dynamic spectrum allocation scheme in conformation to the framework, as documented by IEEE 802.22 Standard. The aim of our work is to provide an efficient and easily implementable spectrum sensing and dynamic allocation scheme following 802.22 Standard. Our work shows that the proposed sensing scheme can achieve a lower probability of miss, and allows sensing procedure to be carried by receivers with lower sensitivity over topologies with varied fading characteristics, than centralized sensing mechanism.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130900752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The network coding techniques show better throughput only under low traffic condition. This work proposes Maximum Flow Min Cut (MF-MC) algorithm which determine the threshold value when the relay nodes of a network should switch from Network coding based forwarding scheme to the traditional forwarding scheme and vice versa. The Simulation results are obtained for a 20 node X-topology based wireless network using XORing scheme of Network Coding for the illustration purpose. The result shows that the MF-MC can improve the throughput of the network in a considerable manner.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125452740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An appropriate control mechanism to enable communication among the mutually supporting OLTs has also been introduced. The paper also presents a new procedure for calculating availability of service for providing shared OLT-protection. The availability of network service per end-user subject to different failure scenarios within the proposed network architecture has been explored. It was found that the proposed architecture provides significant cost benefits over previously proposed OLT protection schemes while achieving higher levels of network availability than most of the cases.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133786087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To comply with the requirements of UNFCCC, India has to mitigate the climate change and the Indian telecom industry can be a major contributor to this. The telecom industry in India has been the lifeline for connecting the people irrespective of the geographical distances between them. The 7,42,000 mobile towers in the country form the backbone of this lifeline. A substantial amount of the country's electricity is required for the operation of these mobile towers. To ensure the undisrupted operations of these, the mobile tower companies have to rely upon diesel driven generators to meet erratic power cuts in the country. These diesel generators consume more than 2.12 billion liter of diesel and emit 5.61 million tons of carbon annually. In this paper, we propose a `Geo-Intelligence based Carbon Footprint Monitoring system to predict suitable Renewable Energy Technology for powering Mobile Towers' which is capable of monitoring the carbon footprints in the mobile network across India. This system will also predict the suitable Renewable Energy Technology (RET) like solar, wind or hybrid for powering the mobile towers according to the geography and power availability conditions of each region. Switching to RET will lead to carbon emission reduction and will be considered as Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which shall earn India some Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits. A case study on a set of mobile towers in Assam state of India has been carried out.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132892948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However the security requirements of 6LoWPANs are high due to undefined deployment scenarios and constrained capabilities of sensor nodes. A number of schemes have been devised for secure communication over the Internet, PKI being the most widely used of them. It provides authentication, non-repudiation, confidentiality and integrity. PKI does not qualify for use in 6LoWPAN as it is not streamlined for these networks and creates a communication and processing overhead which cannot be borne by a simple wireless sensor node. We provide a scheme to integrate PKI and 6LoWPAN by essentially delegating a major portion of key management activity to the edge routers (gateway) of the LoWPAN and limiting the involvement of the end nodes to minimum communication with the edge router. The edge router maintains a Local Key Database (LKDB) by remaining in constant contact with the certification authority (CA) server and oversees all related keying functions in the LoWPAN. A request packet format and algorithm to acquire keys of the destination from edge router is proposed. Performance evaluation of the proposed scheme using a protocol analyzer indicated a time and increased packet count tradeoff for the enhanced level of security. An increase in packet payload during evaluation led to a significant increase in transmitted message count. The proposed scheme did not alter the nature of the packets transmitted and performed well at scalable loads.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128079808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Social networking applications have several features that help in connecting one to another, from finding old friends to browsing for new friends and contacts. To harness the true power of social networking, sometimes it may be important to seamlessly identify and connect individuals who are geographically nearby with similar interests at a given time. In this work, we develop and discuss a pervasive and context-aware social networking system in a mobile environment that is able to report the presence of like-minded individuals in real time based on user's location. We discuss how our system computes closeness between two individuals and develop an application to test its efficacy.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131659220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The introduction of multi-core chips has in addition made researches in the area ever significant and is growing to facilitate high demand of bandwidth via core utilization and need of scalable interconnection fabrics. Numerous technical papers have addressed the performance evaluation but a limited attention has been paid on detection of faulty interswitch links in post manufactured network-on-chip setups. Existing works are traditional circuit based but not with respect to current aspects. Main drawbacks of these approaches are high detection time, large test data, and low scalability. In this paper we propose a novel high level detection model for interswitch links in network-on-chips. The detection process is exercised with a set of test patterns to identify faulty links. The model proposes both local and global test generation schemes. A 2-D mesh network-on-chip architecture is considered for experiment. The experimental results show that the proposed detection model outperforms with a finite test patterns set which suffices to test all interswitch links of the underlying network-on-chip.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"438 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133320605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The details of 5G are the subject to ongoing research and debate, mostly focused on understanding radio technologies that can enable the 5G vision. So far, less work has been dedicated to the challenges that 5G will pose to the transport network. This paper provides a first analysis of the key challenges to 5G transport in terms of capacity, flexibility and costs, for example. Different use cases are discussed as well as technology options and control plane concepts.","PeriodicalId":333503,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommuncations Systems (ANTS)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117287815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
