We found that productive and reproductive parameters of the flock were also severely affected. In order to diagnose the cause of mortality and illness in the sheep, we examined the animals and their living conditions. We found high concentrations of nitrate in animal serum, well water and the surrounding pastures. Based on these findings and the absence of a geological source for nitrogen in the paddock, we believe that inappropriate management of manure in neighboring dairy farms resulted in nitrate toxicity in the Xalda sheep. This study highlights the importance of good practices in manure management and the need to monitor nitrate toxicity in pastures. It also highlights the importance of anthropogenic factors on the conservation of animal genetic resources.","PeriodicalId":332812,"journal":{"name":"Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Veterinary Science","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114420075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Milk being a product of animal origin is susceptible to microbial contamination, as well as toxic products such as mycotoxins or even adulterations, therefore the continued analyzes are needed to ensure that legislation is being enforced, avoiding possible health hazards to the consumers. 62 raw milk samples were collected from tank trucks at dairy processing facilities from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais and were tested for acidity, relative density at 15oC, fat and cryoscopic index, crude protein, lactose and Aflatoxin M1 according to the official methods. Among the evaluated samples, 11.29% (7) presented some irregularity in their composition and 41.93% (26) presented irregularities in cryoscopy, presenting their results above or below that recommended by the legislation. At the toxicological analyzes, 36.12% (33) presented values were above the allowed for Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1). *Correspondence to: Luiz Antonio Moura Keller, Department of Zootecnia e Desenvolvimento Agrossocioambinetal Sustentável Faculdade de veterinária Universidade Federal Fluminense, Niterói – RJ, Brazil, E-mail: luiz_keller@id.uff.br","PeriodicalId":332812,"journal":{"name":"Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Veterinary Science","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125526571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is difficult to control because antibiotics are becoming increasingly ineffective and commercial vaccines are not available. The aims of this study were to detect infective agents causing respiratory disease in a calf rearing unit in Turkey to determine antibiotic susceptibilities of the strains isolated and to carry out molecular typing. In diseased lungs from calves dying of pneumonia we found M. bovis to be present in all samples of acute and chronic diseased tissue. Mannheimia haemolytica was detected mostly in chronic tissue (39 %) while the reverse was true for Pasteurella multocida with most isolations from acute tissue (25 %). High minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were seen for most antibiotics against M. bovis: tylosin, tilmicosin, erythromycin, chloramphenicol, oxytetracycline and ciprofloxacin with MIC50s of >32 μg/ml, intermediate-sensitivity to florfenicol, spectinomycin, danofloxacin, enrofloxacin and marbofloxacin with MIC50 of 8 μg/ml, and susceptible to lincomycin, clindamycin and tulathromycin with MIC50 of 1, 0.25, 0.25 μg/ml respectively. While all tested isolates of both M. haemolytica and P. multocida were resistant to gentamicin, P. multocida isolates showed resistance rates of 100 % to erythromycin and tylosin, 88 % to trimethoprim-sulphametoxasol, 75% to tetracycline and tilmicosin, 50 % to tulathromycin and enrofloxacin. The resistance rates of M. haemolytica isolates were 90 % to erythromycin, 75 % to tylosin, 64 % to tetracycline, 55 % to trimethoprim-sulphametoxasol, 36 % to tilmicosin, 18 % to enrofloxacin, 9 % to marbofloxacin, florfenicol, ampicillin and penicillin. Finally, M. bovis could be divided into two distinct genetic clusters by molecular typing tests. *Correspondence to: Nıcholas RAJ, The Oaks, Nutshell Lane, Farnham Surrey, UK, E-mail: robin.a.j.nicholas@gmail.com","PeriodicalId":332812,"journal":{"name":"Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Veterinary Science","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115463143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, one of its main objectives is to improve not only the quantity but also the quality of the offered product. Over the years, the abuse of antibiotics as growth promoters has led to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, imposing the need to find alternative solutions for animal welfare and for gastrointestinal diseases prevention, finding confirmation in the use of pre and probiotics. Various stressors, together with feed deprivation during the first few hours of chicks’ life increase the chance of disease contraction and mortality. Innovative feeding systems to be administered to chicks immediately after hatching in incubation rooms are gaining ground in poultry industry. These new systems consist of complementary feeds, often in the form of hydrated gels, which provide all the nutrients and additives that chicks need during their first hours of life, promoting the development of the gastrointestinal system and preventing the documented side effects caused by fasting.","PeriodicalId":332812,"journal":{"name":"Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Veterinary Science","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134189099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work was launched in an attempt to find natural growth promoters in the breeding of domestic animals. This work was carried out in the city of Dschang in the western part of Cameroon. It focuses on the evaluation of two extraction solvents (water and waterethanol mixture) on the phytochemistry of avocado seed extracts and their effect on feed digestibility in guinea pigs. To this end, three experimental rations (without extracts; 200 g aqueous extracts /100 kg rations and 200 g hydroethanolic extracts /100 kg rations) were tested on 30 guinea pigs divided into three groups of 10 (5 males and 5 females) similar in terms of body weight. The main results revealed the presence of secondary metabolites such as phenols and tannins in all extracts. However, the aqueous extracts had higher phenol content (1337.18 mg/100 g) as compared to the hydroethanol extracts (561.5 mg/100 g). Moreover, adding extracts to the ration resulted in an improvement in nutrient intake compared to the control (without extracts). In effect, the aqueous extract induced an improvement in feed intake, cellulose digestion (51.85 ± 5.35) and in digestibility (93.27 ± 0.72) compared to other rations. In short, aqueous extracts can be used to improve feeding efficiency of guinea pigs. Nevertheless, a study on the inclusion rate is still necessary to better control its effect. *Correspondence to: Emile Miegoue, Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences, University of Dschang, Cameroon.
