The SRC topology is considered as a step-up front-end dc-dc converter with buck-boost functionality for integration of renewable energy sources in dc microgrids. The input voltage range could be expanded significantly by implementing different buck control methods at the constant switching frequency. Moreover, an additional control degree of freedom allowing optimization of the converter operation is topology reconfiguration between the full-bridge mode and the half-bridge mode. The paper describes the transition between these two modes of the input-side full-bridge inverter by applying hybrid phase shift modulation and asymmetrical pulsewidth modulation, respectively. Experimental results show the operation of the converter in a wide input voltage range and transition transients between the two modes.","PeriodicalId":332414,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 61th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115317352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By trial and error, technicians have come to the cheapest solution in each case. The two objects of equal value can be expensive or cheap depending on the quantity of processed products, that is per unit cost can be diverse. Per unit power cost of electricity delivery depends primarily on the cost of power lines and transformer substations which for both of them increases with rated voltage. However in per unit cost of a network, the share of power lines increases but of transformers decreases with the power (with supply zone) increasing. So per unit cost is optimum (minimum) at a certain value of both voltage and the supply zone. These factors (and others) differed in different regions, which led to many rated voltages. If at a given rated voltage the per unit power cost decreases with the supply zone increase, then we have cost decreasing network, otherwise - cost increasing network, which leads to a different network planning approach.","PeriodicalId":332414,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 61th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128654171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Daily heat and electric load schedules are different, in order to get maximum efficiency the authors discusses the decisions on installing a heat storage for shifting the heat load. During the high price of electricity, cogeneration produces a maximum of electricity, and heat accumulates to heat storage with following heat discharge to the district heating system to consumers. Such a system allows you to create a smart grid between fuel consumption and heat/electricity production which will allow more efficient use of resources.","PeriodicalId":332414,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 61th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127843472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this the resilience of the total energy system is quantified by the ability of each type of grid infrastructure to withstand disturbances in the other ones. The main goal of the paper is to study the resilience of the Baltic energy system in the case of a major disturbance in the natural gas transmission grid. A case study of a disturbance is performed, response of the power grid is studied and the resilience of the energy system is assessed. The results can be used in the planning activities of Baltic power grid operators.","PeriodicalId":332414,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 61th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124632919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primary purpose of Automatic Generation Control (AGC) is balancing the whole generation system against load variations and system losses. In a power system, any unpredictable variations of consumption load will cause fluctuation in frequency and the current power between the lines. Load frequency control is one of the main problems in the power system which synchronizes with automatic generation control. In this paper, a three area power system in a deregulated environment with the participation of the hybrid generation wind turbine with Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG), hydro, and thermal power plants is studied. The load in this power system is considered a random variable form that periodically and randomly has a frequency of 0.25% around the nominal amount. One of the consequences of using Doubly Fed Induction Generator and variable load in the Restructured Power Systems is the frequency of oscillation. To reduce this fluctuation the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) equipped by Power System Stabilizer (PSS), FACTs devises and PID controller has been used. PID controller parameters have been optimized by Imperialist Competitive, genetic and Particle swarm optimization algorithm.","PeriodicalId":332414,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 61th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121142443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the first stage of analysis an expert judgement is a key element in the smooth transition from preventative maintenance system to condition monitoring under the present technological conditions of grid equipment diagnostics. A comparative analysis of experts judgements consistency during electrical equipment diagnostics is described in this study. The research have shown that conclusions can be made concerning reasons of some failures with appropriate signs of transformer or switching equipment failure, as well as with fuzzy linguistic estimates of the signs made by experts. The considered examples show the possibility of precedence ranking of reasons for pre-failure state, which is defined by the membership function values within the range from 0 to 1. Credibility of the result is achieved through the expert judgements consistency, setting fuzzy relations between criteria and possible reasons of the defects. In connection with the above results, the research of real recommendations to use the statistics methods for expert judgements analysis depending on the real technical state of electrical equipment. Also, the study provides the comparative analysis of mean and median rankings of experts judgements consistency using the Kemeny median method.","PeriodicalId":332414,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 61th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134614665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of the extended SRI with a PDM technique is proposed to reduce the amplitude fluctuation of the SRI output current. The extended SRI topology is a combined topology of full-bridge and half-bridge inverters. The operation principle of the extended SRI with the PDM technique is shown. The effectiveness of using the extended SRI topology is also demonstrated compared to a conventional full-bridge SRI topology with PDM. The evaluation of effectiveness is determined in two ways: the difference between the values of the minimum amplitude current and reducing relative values of the peak-to-peak current amplitude fluctuation. Theoretical analysis shows that it is possible to achieve the effectiveness in increasing the minimum current amplitude up to 19.8% at the quality factor of 5 and reduce peak-to-peak current amplitude fluctuations at least twice. The extended pulse-density-modulated SRI is theoretically discussed and also verified with an experimental setup. Some of the experimental results are shown.","PeriodicalId":332414,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 61th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115441917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
