Meta cognitive skills have something to do with the extent to which one can identify his/her own strengths and weaknesses, which are associated with the so called self-regulated learning (SRL). This research aims to determine the factors of SRL among fifth-graders. This is ex post facto research employing a quantitative approach. It used questionnaires as the research instrument, the result of which was then analyzed using the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Findings of the research suggest that motivation, self-efficacy, and goal orientation are factors that affect SRL.","PeriodicalId":331771,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Current Issues in Education (ICCIE 2018)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121132801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the vocational school graduates’ opportunity to pursue higher education level is widely opened, many students prefer joining the workforce right after graduating from vocational schools. Graduates’ good character is nurtured through a long process and developed over times through a sustainable teaching, for example, learning and practices. In vocational schools, instilling character values can be done by integrating character education into practical learning because more time is allocated for practice (66.7%) than for theoretical learning (33.3%). With such portion, the interaction between teacher/instructor and students occurs more in practical learning. For this reason, instilling good character values would be more effective when conducted in practical learning. The objective of study was to guide the vocational schools to emphasize on the importance of character education to help students prepare for work realm. Development process should be conducted systematically and sustainably and covers a variety of traits such as honesty, discipline, hard work, creativity, and responsibility. The measuring tool used in the assessment activity is in the form of a test. This study aims to determine the quality of a test for diagrams and mathematical representation ability of High School students in Physics. This research is quantitative descriptive. There are two sets of test that are set A and B, which is each set test consist of 10 items with 20% of the being an anchor items. Test instrument tested to 317 High School students in Physics in Yogyakarta with purposive sampling. Students’ response data was analyzed based on the items response theory using Partial Credit Model (PCM). PCM is the development of 1-PL model (Rasch model) which contains one parameter item that is the item difficulty level. The results of test quality analysis show that: (1) items test instrument fit with PCM, (2) item difficulty levels are in the range of values -1.023 to +1.785 which includes the criteria of the good items, (3) the ability of respondents who do the test is in the range of values from -1.9678 to +2.0384, and (4) this test is more appropriate for measuring respondents who have value ability -1.85 +1.9. Therefore, this test can be used to measure diagrams and mathematical representation ability of High School students in Physics.","PeriodicalId":331771,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Current Issues in Education (ICCIE 2018)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121509805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study uses a quantitative approach. The sample of the study consisted of 181 teachers randomly selected and the data were collected by a questionnaire and analyzed using path analysis after all variables were incorporated into the correlation matrix. The research findings show that the behavior of VHS leaders is somewhat directly influenced by the perceptions of success, their traits, and the use of power. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that any change or variation that occurs in the behavior of VHS leaders may be directly influenced by the perception of success, leader’ traits, and the use of power. Therefore, in improving the behavior of school leaders, success perception, leadership traits, and use of power should be applied in VHSs, especially in Kebumen Regency. However, other variables need to be taken into account by the behavior of the next leaders. Nowadays, elementary school students need to be equipped not only with academic knowledge but also the 21 st century skills. Communication skills is the 21 st century skills which has gained a lot of attention in recent years. It has become one of the key skills to be implemented in elementary school. Communication skills are the ability to express thoughts clearly in an effective way. However, several studies highlight the teachers’ difficulties and challenges in integrating communication skills. For instance, Asian students assume that it is better to be silent than what is said is wrong and can disappoint others. This occurs as a result of cultures in Asia that uphold the value of obedience to teachers. PBL model can be applied as the way to improve students’ communication skills. Employing learning activities based on real-life problems is considered as a potential strategy to bridge the gap between the classroom and real world. Also, this method encourages students to be actively involved, conduct group discussions, and deliver classroom presentations which stimulate the students’ communication skills. Thus, employing PBL model can improve students’ communication skills.","PeriodicalId":331771,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Current Issues in Education (ICCIE 2018)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128889154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
