As lighting impulse tests with chopped waveforms generally have differences in the chopping time, a simple direct comparison could lead to erroneous conclusions, and transformers that pass the test can be judged as failure. The proposal is applied to estimate the quality of different comparing algorithms using real test results.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133069523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Monitoring solutions based on this technology have proven particularly cost effective and can be applied to large scale structures where hundreds of sensors must be deployed for long term measurement of different mechanical and physical parameters. Sensors based on Fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) are the most common solution used in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and the measurements are performed by special instruments known as optical interrogators. Acquisition rates increasingly higher have been possible using the latest optical interrogators, which gives rise to a large volume of data whose manipulation, storage, management and visualization can demand special software applications. This work presents two real-time software applications developed for these purposes: Interrogator Abstraction (InterAB) and Web-based System (WbS). The innovations in this work include the integration, synchronization, independence, security, processing and real-time visualization, data persistence and flexibility provided by joint work of the applications developed. The results demonstrate the use of these softwares in the laboratory and real environment in accordance with the features proposed.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133140904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigate the correlation between changes on the electrode surface with the results of LEIS. For LEIS measurements, a novel measurement set-up is developed with high mechanical stability and a sufficient space resolution of 200nm. Three identical liquid quality sensors were exposed to aging with different immersion time. Using scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), the results depict that the deposits increase with immersion time and have typical dimensions of 0.7 mm2. The LEIS investigation shows a good sensitivity to deposits on electrode surfaces and results are confirmed by the SEM investigation.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130365914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach is based on inductive method by magnetically coupling an array of search loops with the rail-armature circuit. The procedure was already successfully employed for current distribution measurements among the brushes of multi-brush armatures and its extension to the current distribution reconstruction across the rails is here discussed. The method sensitivity and the measurement model uncertainty in a simple case study are firstly analyzed based on an analytical model formulation, to obtain information about the applicability of this approach. Then, a finite element analysis and experimental results are presented, discussing various rails-armature configurations.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115070218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This data communication method uses the human body itself as the signal propagation medium. It is significant to investigate the signal characteristics for baseband digital data transceiver design in IBC. In this paper, we present preliminary channel attenuation characteristics of a time division multiple access (TDMA) scheme implemented based on baseband digital signal transmission. A digital block implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) board as well as a digital Pulse Generator are employed as the IBC transmitters. The timeslot occupancy is simulated by adjusting the duty cycle of a square wave of varying frequencies. The measurements using FPGA indicate the signal attenuation of 32.76 and 27.82 dB at frequency of 10 and 25 MHz, respectively, for digital signals with 50% duty cycle. In addition, the attenuation of signal with 20% and 50% duty cycle at 50 MHz are 32.76 and 30.63 dB when Pulse Generator is used as the IBC transmitter. The variation of duty cycle in pulses was then used to simulate a time division multiplexed transmission scheme. It was observed that the attenuation decreases around 4.0 dB when data pulses are increasingly present from 1 to 5 timeslots. Therefore, digital baseband signals deployed in a time division multiplexed mode with higher timeslot occupancy leads to lower attenuation for IBC transmissions.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115573599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tractable recovery algorithm is a crucial and fundamental theme of compressive sensing (CS), which has drawn significant interests in the last few years. In this paper, we firstly analyze the iterative residual in Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) algorithm. Secondly, a greedier algorithm is introduced, which is called Greedy OMP (GOMP) algorithm. This algorithm iteratively identifies more than one atoms using greedy atom identification, and then discards some atoms, which are of high similarity with the optimal atom. Compared with OMP algorithm, the experiments conducted on Gaussian and Zero-one sparse signal demonstrate that the proposed GOMP algorithm can provide better recovery performance. Finally, we experimentally investigate the effect of greedy constant in GOMP upon the recovery performance.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114355140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studies are enabled by embedded piezoelectric-based transducers called “Smart Aggregates (SAs)” that generated and received a swept sine stress wave in the specimens at frequency range of 100 Hz - 150 kHz. Dependencies of the resonant peak amplitude and frequency of power spectrum density as transmission energy indicator on water-to-cement (w/c) ratio and effect of coarse aggregates in the specimens are demonstrated. It is shown that the changes of the resonant resonance peak have different rates for the concrete and mortar specimens with different w/c ratios when the hydration process proceeded. The potential of SA-based cure-state monitoring method for very early-age concrete assessment is discussed.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114579073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a method for subpixel straight lines detection is presented and tested on images taken from the reticle of a dark field autocollimator. The method has three steps, the sharpening of the image using a version of the Savitzky-Golay filter for smoothing and differentiation, the construction of a coarse edge image using Sobel filters, and finally, the subpixel edge location determination, by fitting a Gaussian function to orthogonal sections of the coarse edge image.We discuss results of applying the proposed method to images of the reticle of a Nikon 6D autocollimator, using the scale of the device as a benchmark for testing the error in the location of the lines and compare them with Sobel/Hough and Sobel/polynomial fitting. We report that for this type of image-content, Gaussian fitting has smaller uncertainty, when cameras with two different sensors are used.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117135972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
