Especially for those pursuing health-related careers, it can be a particularly demanding and challenging period. They frequently encounter stressful situations that significantly affect their well-being and lifestyle choices. Objective: To determine if there is an association between lifestyle and academic performance in medical students. Methods: The review was conducted through evidence-based literature search for articles published from 2013 to 2023, using search platforms such as Scopus, PubMed, Scielo, BVS, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Results: Out of the 33 articles reviewed, 9 were excluded for not being related to our research variables in the field of health sciences or for not involving a university population. Additionally, 2 articles were removed as they were published before 2013, leaving only 30 articles for this literature review. Among the 30 selected articles, 14 presented research results, while 16 were considered for theoretical and conceptual aspects related to the study's purpose. Conclusion: University students with healthy lifestyles tend to have better academic performance, and it has been observed that mental health plays a significant role. However, the lack of consensus in the findings suggests the need for further research to better understand this complex relationship.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139202223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine the effect of bariatric surgery on the quality of life in obese men and women between 20 and 60 years of age. A systematic review (SR) was carried out with meta-analysis of randomized systematic reviews, which compare the quality of life in patients after bariatric surgery. Electronic databases were consulted: Ebsco, Scopus, Pubmed and Cochrane Library. The response variables were: physical, social, mental and emotional function. They were submitted to meta-analysis, with R 4.2.2. Three SR were included, of which 25 clinical trials were combined with 3-6 and 12-month follow-up after bariatric surgery, finding statistically significant changes in physical function scores (1.20; 95% CI: 0.80-1 .61), social (0.95; 95% CI: 0.66-1.25), mental (0.35; 95% CI: -0.21- +0.90) and emotional (0.54; 95% CI: 0.03-1.06). Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in children from 2 to 6 years old, physical status classification I and II, in elective procedures under anesthesia. The main variable was the presence of emergence delirium evaluated with the Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium scale greater than or equal to 10 points. To identify the factors associated with delirium, the Poisson regression model was applied and a p value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Of the 150 children, it was found that the incidence of emergence delirium occurred in 10.6%. Of these, 81.4% were under 5 years of age, pain was significantly associated in 37.5% with PR = 3.63, 95%CI [1.20, 10.1] and it was observed that 68, 8% required palliative care. Conclusions: Pain was associated with delirium of postanesthetic emergence in children. Prevention and treatment of emergence delirium should focus on postoperative pain control and careful monitoring of patients after surgery.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139206161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: descriptive, observational, cross-sectional and prospective study, sample of 143 doctors, non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The variables: years of professional practice, specialty, proportion of patients in the medical consultation with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (type 1 or 2), proportion of patients with diabetes mellitus with a diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy, attitudes towards the approach to diabetic neuropathy. A 5-category Likert scale was used to evaluate attitudes in 3 dimensions: prioritization, diagnosis and treatment. Descriptive statistics were used. Results: In the prioritization dimension, 57.4% prioritize metabolic control over the evaluation of complications. Diagnostic dimension: 80.5% of doctors surveyed rely on symptoms and signs reported by the patient to make the diagnosis of said complication, 66.5% recognize that they do not use an instrument for the evaluation of neuropathy and 39.9% would not use it either. had it. In the treatment dimension, 73.5% recognize that analgesic treatment for diabetic neuropathy is frustrating and 50.4% feel “afraid” to titrate the dose of anti-neuropathic analgesic medication due to adverse effects. Objective: To determine the relationship between hearing loss and cognitive impairment in the elderly. Method: Descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional study. Otoscopy, audiometry and the Pfeiffer questionnaire were performed in 104 adults over 65 years of age, who attended the Otorhinolaryngology service of the Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital. The otoscope, the audiometer and the Pfeiffer questionnaire were used as instruments. Analyzing the relationship using Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient. Results: Hearing loss was found in 58 cases (55.8%) and normal hearing in 46 cases (44.2%). When applying the Pfeiffer questionnaire to determine cognitive status, an average global score of 8.5 was obtained, determining that values less than 8 are considered mild cognitive impairment. Evidencing mild cognitive impairment in 7% of normoacusics and in 26% of hypoacusics. When performing Spearman's Rho correlation, a high positive correlation was found between hearing loss and cognitive impairment (0.864), significant (0.000<0.05).
