Currently management is often controversial. It is that from this context, it seeks to promote studies that can elucidate the variables associated with the management of this condition. Objective: to determine the epidemiological-clinical characteristics associated with the results of the management of the appendiceal plastron in adult patients in a reference hospital in Peru. Methods: Non-experimental study, with a quantitative approach, observational, analytical and cross-sectional design, whose sample consisted of 100 patients with a diagnosis of appendicular plastron. The data collection sheet was applied as an instrument. Likewise, a Poisson regression model was used to respond to the objectives. Results: The multivariate analysis showed that alcohol consumption (p<0.05 RPa=1.12), nausea and vomiting (p<0.05, RPa=1.48), diarrhea (p<0.05; RPa=1.08), duration of symptoms before admission between 3 and 5 days (p<0.05; RPa=1.09), appendiceal mass (p<0.05, RPa=1.18) and bandemia (p<0.05, RPa=1.12) were significantly associated with unsuccessful management results of the appendiceal plastron. Conclusion: There are epidemiological and clinical characteristics associated with the results of the management of the appendicular plastron.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47773709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional talks in the reduction and prevention of anemia in boys and girls from 6 to 36 months of age. Methods: Longitudinal analytical study of retrospective cohorts. The sample included 78 children attended at a primary health care center. The information was extracted from a database generated by the center. The hemoglobin (Hb) level was recorded close to the date of the intervention and in subsequent controls ≥1 month. Results: 41 children (52.6%) participated in the nutritional talk, not observing significant differences with the group that did not participate. A higher frequency of anemia was observed in the group that did not participate in the nutritional talk (23%) compared to the group that did participate (0%), a significant difference was evidenced in the time between Hb evaluations (p<0.001). and the indication of micronutrients (p<0.001) for both groups. Despite this, there was no significant difference between the initial and final Hb values. Conclusion: Children whose parents participated in the nutrition talks had less anemia. This could suggest that nutritional talks are effective in preventing anemia.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46818098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It originates more frequently in the stomach and small intestine and is characterized by the expression of the tyrosine kinase growth factor receptor, CD117. Therefore, its diagnosis requires an immunohischemical study to rule it out from other mesenchymal tumors. However, enteroscopic imaging and analysis of the biopsy may suggest a preoperative diagnosis of probable GIST. The case of a 62-year-old woman with rectorrhagia and recurrent anemia caused by mid-intestinal bleeding observed by capsule endoscopy is reported. Enteroscopy revealed a subepithelial ulcerated lesion in the proximal jejunum, and a biopsy was taken, the anatomopathological study of which suggested a gastrointestinal stromal tumor. The biopsy sample subjected to immunohistochemical studies conrms the suspicion of a cKit/CD117-positive GIST tumor. Surgical resection of the tumor with dimensions 4.2x3 cm is performed. After surgery, the patient was stable and under clinical follow-up until she was discharged. Clinical ndings, diagnosis and timely treatment contribute to increasing survival from complications.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41581146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In some situations elevated tyrosine levels in blood are discovered due to elevated tyrosine in a metabolic urine screening. In Peru, some pediatric patients suspected of having a genetic condition (inborn error of metabolism) undergo a metabolic urine screening that includes - among other things - qualitative detection of tyrosine. However, when there are elevated levels of tyrosine in urine this does not always mean that the patient has a genetic condition. Most often hypertyrosinemia has a non-genetic origin. Therefore, it is important to review the non-genetic causes of hypertyrosinemia and thus avoid potential misinterpretations of this finding. The genetic entities associated with increased levels of tyrosine are those that generate an enzymatic deficiency in the degradation of tyrosine, within which tyrosinemias type I, II or III are included (2,3). However, elevated tyrosine levels in the blood usually have a nongenetic cause. The most common non-genetic cause of increased tyrosine levels in the blood is transient tyrosinemia of the newborn. This is due to immaturity of enzymes involved in tyrosine degradation– such as 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase– such as 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47200296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective of the study: To determine the factors associated with hemoglobin levels in children under 6 months of age hospitalized in a specialized pediatric center in Peru. Material and methods: Cross-sectional study in children under 6 months of age hospitalized in the medical services of a pediatric center during the year 2017, 267 medical records were reviewed, emphasizing clinical and epidemiological characteristics. Results: 61.4% of the infants were female, and only 6.7% of the proportion of the population studied were less than 1 month old. 6.7% had low birth weight, and 53.2% had a normal delivery. The level of anemia in hospitalized children under 6 months of age is 66.7%. Conclusions: According to the bivariate analysis, a significant association was found between hemoglobin levels with the variables age, nutritional status of weight for length and hospital causes. Regarding the multivariate analysis, only an association was found between age and the median Hb present in boys and girls aged 0 to 5 months hospitalized in a pediatric center in Peru.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43231574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
