Hence, feedbacks that can be obtained from the project’s beneficiaries are deemed necessary to improve and inform the whole process of conducting any extension activity. Considering the role of feedback mechanisms, this study sought to evaluate the implementation and quality of the Sambalaran Camp Project, which was carried out by the extension office of Bulacan State University – Meneses Campus in Bulacan Province, Philippines in its partner and adopted communities in the towns of Bulakan and Guiguinto last 2017 and 2018. Results show that most of the 154 beneficiaries reported a strong level of agreement towards the implementation of the project. They also reported positive ratings, ranging from very good and excellent, in assessing the project’s quality. Open-ended qualitative responses revealed that they were interested in opening small business after gaining new knowledge and skills. T-test analysis revealed that the first batch (2017) of beneficiaries reported higher both level of agreement and positive rating than the second batch (2018), reflecting the latter’s observations concerning the lack of required training materials and allotment of minimal amount of time for a skills training activity.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42198360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Makful","doi":"10.7454/ajce.v3i1.88","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7454/ajce.v3i1.88","url":null,"abstract":"Surveillance is the systematic, continuous collection, processing, analysis and interpretation of data and its dissemination to entities that can act on it. An organization’s human resources (HR) department has a very important role in the field of health care because the quality of public health services is determined by the effectiveness of the human resources working on them. With the Sukabumi district’s large number of outbreaks and reports, it is necessary to have an effective system for gathering information and recording data. The purpose of this research is to understand the effectiveness of Geographic Information System (GIS) training for health surveillance officers in the Sukabumi district by analyzing the results of training competence measurements. This study used a mixed research method consisting of interview techniques and statistical analysis (MANOVA). The research results reveal that there is a correlation between the training participants' knowledge and their education level. Data analysis training using GIS-based health data can increase the competence of surveillance officers and health center managers in performing data processing in GIS applications. This research can be referenced in conducting community training, especially for health surveillance officers. Also, among the relationships between age, education, and gender, only educational level is related to knowledge level. This application of science and technology is not only important for health service officers in the Sukabumi Regency, but also in the Sukabumi District Health Office, because prevention programs for communicable diseases must be coordinated across sectors.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43513150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This need can be seen from the many aspects of community life that cannot be separated from the dependence on the use of ICTs. This dependency also occurs in the education environment, especially the context of senior high school level education in DKI Jakarta. If schools can implement this new type of learning optimally, it'll be possible there are no longer needed a separate class of national level test in Indonesia, question bank and teaching material can be shared between schools in Indonesia, and learning can be done in wherever, whenever, and whoever wants to study. This research activity was carried out derived from the results of direct observations, which had problems in the aspects of HR (teachers, students, and technical staffs), Technology Infrastructure, and leadership. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods. The results showed that there were still many teachers who were not aware of the importance of Learning Management System (LMS) so that the participation of teachers and students even used traditional methods. The student's commitment has what commitment their teacher will give if the teachers have not been committed to using LMS optimally, so will their students. LMS technical staffs themselves also face similar problems, where the direction of professional crews implementing LMS depends on the course of the leader.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43890656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this objective, a community empowerment program was created that includes four strategic levels namely, 1) assessment; 2) training; 3) mentoring; and 4) monitoring and evaluation. This program was applied to 8 start-up businesses in sub sectors such as horticulture production, aquaculture, livestock, and agro-industrial. Assessment analysis resulted in three main targets on the entrepreneurship training program including 1) improvement of production; 2) development of a financial system, and 3) expansion of the marketing network. After 6 months, the community empowerment program improved acceptable and profitable production through different technology implementation methods. To build financial systems, every group recorded financial data through a Microsoft excel program template, and created a strategic plan based on present information and educated projections. Furthermore, every business unit had to be proficient in operating the website and with social media accounts for developing marketing network. General evaluation confirmed that this program could gradually enhance the skills of business owners/entrepreneurs. Good education in entrepreneurial skills in start-up businesses could drive sustainable performance and growth small-medium enterprises.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48463979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile, the amount of recycled waste is still low due to the lack of awareness about how to sort household waste. The citizens’ participation activity for this study aimed to increase awareness about how to sort household waste by involving the stakeholders. The method used for the citizens participation activity was obtained through four stages, including advocacy, counseling for garbage collectors, counseling for households, and monitoring the waste sorting behavior in households. The obtained results are based on a 100% attendance at counseling by both the stakeholders and the garbage collectors. There is a significance difference in the level of understanding found in households before and after the counseling. According to the results of the study, as many as 44.2% of the households started sorting their waste based on monitoring.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48612841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although leprosy was declared to be eliminated in several provinces, there are still several leprosy settlements spread in Indonesia. One of these settlements is Neglasari village in Tangerang City, West Java, where leprosy patients have been living since 1981. There is a scarcity of information regarding the features of leprosy in Indonesia, especially about the description of the patients’ posttreatment condition in terms of both clinical sequelae and health services provided. A collaboration between multiple departments of Ophthalmology, Dermatovenereology, and Medical Rehabilitation from the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital/Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, was established in the form of a health service program to determine the number and features of disabilities of ex-leprosy patients. We provide health services, including physical examinations, extend free medication and eye glasses, and impart knowledge about the chronic complications to patients and local cadres. A nonroutine health service program for leprosy patients was conducted in Neglasari village, which performed four primary activities of promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative. The program included a total of 260 patients, with a mean age of 50.45 ± 10.15 years and most of them being males (60.4%). A duration of >5 years of leprosy was found in 47% of subjects, and 96% of them have been released from treatment. Disabilities comprised 52.5% in the eye, 87.7% in the hand, and 92% in the foot. In total, 65% of the patients had an uncorrected visual acuity of normal to mild impairment, whereas 5.8% were blind. Eye abnormalities included madarosis (43.9%), entropion (41%), cataract (26%), corneal hypoesthesia (20.6%), trichiasis (17.8%), and lagophthalmos (15.1%), and examination of the extremities revealed that 16% of the subjects had an amputated foot. Spectacles were successfully distributed to 100% of patients who were visually correctable. This proposed model for leprosy health care program involving multidisciplinary expertise is effective for screening numerous disabilities in leprosy patients at one time. This enables caretakers to determine a holistic management that at the end is intended to improve the quality of life of patients.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47360409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
