By conducting direct observation and focus group discussion (FGD) with management unit representatives and residents, this study identified three priority issues in Rusunawa Muara Baru, Pluit, North Jakarta: access to clean water, management of household waste, and the lack of a public area for social activities or interaction. This paper aims to solve these problems through the implementation of an integrated model of Green Rusunawa, especially in Towers 5, 6, and 7. The stages of this program include preparation, implementation, and evaluation and sustainability. This program adopted a qualitative descriptive approach using observation, interview, and FGD to reveal the challenges, conducted informal deliberations as well as attributed the audience to the local government, observed and recorded the infrastructure program establishment and implementation, and held informal discussions and training for program management and resident representatives for the final stage. Green Rusunawa was created within the concept of green living, green environment, and green space, each through the successful utilization of rainwater harvesting (RWH), management of the waste bank, and the availability of the learning center. RWH and the waste bank quantitatively provide tangible benefits for the fulfillment of water needs and augment family income, respectively. Meanwhile, the learning center is to be developed into an interaction space for residents to conduct positive activities.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42376194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, their contribution to the family economy is rarely overlooked. This descriptive study is an initial examination of the fisherwoman’s role on household income in Sawohan Village, East Java, Indonesia. The village, which is famous for the fishery products it turns out, is classified as a poor village because the local income is far below the East Java average minimum wage. The purpose of this study is twofold: first, to empower fisherwomen to improve the economy of the family; second, to analyze the factors that influence fisherwomen’s intentions to become entrepreneurs as a second income for the household. Entrepreneurship Capacity Building (ECB) methods using a participatory approach were performed to involve fisherwomen in identifying problems, the causal factors of the issues, handling strategies, and developing models for managing the village’s problems based on science and technology. A quantitative method, using an in-depth interview based on a questionnaire, was used to determine the factors that influence fisherwomen to become entrepreneurs. Multiple linear regression shows that fisherwomen are significantly affected to become entrepreneurs by self-motivation to earn profits (FP_PRFT), hobbies/pleasure (FP_HOBY), and government policy (FL_GOVT). The linear relation between those factors and entrepreneurship intention concludes that fisherwomen voluntarily wish to contribute to household income. The sustainability of this program must be done by providing entrepreneurship assistance and providing knowledge about product marketing.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41384432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research endeavors have evidenced that the inculcation of positive language by parents is effective in building positive character in their children. Thus, language is not merely a communication tool; it is also a means of personality development. However, this application cannot be realized if parents are unaware. Therefore, the community service activity proposed in this paper aims to broaden and strengthen mindful parenting, and to enhance the discernment of positive language in parents to help them build positive character in their children. To this end, a community-based research process was applied through activities held in a community center to mentor and assist 30 young Muslim couples whom were married for a period of 5 to 20 years. An expert psychologist was engaged to help the participating couples comprehend two perspectives of mindful parenting: language education and psychology. A mini handbook for the application of positive language was distributed to each participating couple as guidance to enable them to continuously employ mindful parenting with their children. This community service activity expanded and reinforced the commitment of all participants to work together to inculcate their children with positive personalities. Parents must be mindful of every single word they say and everything they do if they desire to build a better future generation. The more parents apply positive language in mindful parenting, the more children will be assimilated with constructive personalities.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48005144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main factors in sea level rise is thermal expansion, where greenhouse gases, especially CO2, accumulate and generate heat (climate change), thereby melting glaciers in the polar regions. Two villages in Kampung Bungin Bekasi, Indonesia, have already been experiencing flooding. Climate change can be addressed by environmental conservation and utilization of renewable energy to reduce CO2 production. Environmental conservation can be conducted by planting mangroves, while renewable energy is achieved by using natural renewable resources. Planting 10,000 mangrove seeds through citizen participation and by researchers from the University of Indonesia could create a new coastal ecosystem, which could prevent abrasion and become the habitat of sea biota. Renewable energy based on wind power and solar cell such as wind turbines and photovoltaics (PV) has been installed and used for streetlights, mosque lamps, and freezers. The wind turbine used in this study is made from wood, which is easy to obtain, and is designed to be compatible with the characteristics of Bungin Village, with a capacity of 500 Wp per unit. The total capacity of PV is 1800 Wp, which includes 720 Wp floating PV capacity and 1080 Wp PV monocrystalline capacity. Floating technology is chosen because the coastal areas have limited available land and the soil condition (sand) is inappropriate as a foundation for PV. The installed renewable energy is integrated and completed with a battery system and online monitoring to monitor the site in real time anytime and anywhere.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43466791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In cities of developing countries, the amount of waste is inversely proportional to the land area available for landfills. Cipayung Landfill in the city of Depok, Jakarta’s southern border, cannot support the volume of waste generated by the city’s 11 districts. This study presents the case of a community group in Tugu Village, Cimanggis, Depok, where a waste separation program had been adopted since 2014 but low rates of participation are still recorded. Earlier observations reveal uneven distribution and location of communal organic bins and transportation of mixed waste. Earlier researches discussed over relationship between waste management and people participation, information dissemination, environmental knowledge, attitude, behavior, facility availability, partially. Thus, this study aims to integrate all these notions by examining the correlations between participation, information exposure, environmental knowledge, environmental attitude and other conditions that may promote participation in waste separation practices. Quantitative approach with quantitative and qualitative methods is implemented. Questionnaires, interviews, and observations are used to collect data. Spearman correlations reveal that participation is very strongly correlated with information exposure, and environmental knowledge, but weakly correlated with environmental attitude. Other conditions include respondents’ daily activities, residence period in the community, family welfare level, facilities provision, and role of community leaders. This study confirms the importance of information dissemination on a routine basis, valid and persuasive messages, facilities provision, and leading actor’s role at the community level to help increase public participation in waste separation.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47743405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, factors that influence nurses’ caring attitudes, such as job stress and dehumanization, make caring behavior decrease. Previous research showed that 52.9% of patients reported that the implementation of caring behavior by nurses in Dharmais Hospital was lacking. Our program offers a solution for building a caring culture among oncology nurses. Researcher team activities were carried out, including the socialization of a caring culture with 84 nurses, training for 16 head nurses as the change agent for guiding nurses, and a guidance program for 16 head nurses to act as champion to the rest of the nurses. The researcher evaluated the implementation of caring culture using focus group discussion (FGD) with the 16 head nurses. Eight themes were obtained from the FGD: observation guidance about caring behavior to help champions monitor and increase the nurses’ caring attitudes; training about caring to help nurses change their caring attitudes; excessive workload makes nurses display less-caring behavior; the WhatsApp application helps socialize a caring culture; spiritual power from the inside fosters caring behavior; support from hospital leaders is needed to encourage caring behavior; need for caring behavior training and therapeutic communication for all health care providers and administrative staff; and need for caring behavior standard operating procedures (SOP) and guidance from senior nurses. The number of nurses who perform caring well also increased by 38% after intervention (p = 0.021). Based on the FGD results, it was recommended to improve the caring culture behavior in the hospital through several efforts.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42384042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The communication between researchers and policymakers must be further strengthened by encouraging data visualizations as the narrative tools to optimize those communications. Mata-Data (https://mata-data.com) aimed to present national data on health and its social determinants in dynamic data visualization, which was previously shown in tables only. This program was developed in several steps. First, data extraction and analysis from data bank and official reports. Second, website development subcontracted to external consultants. Third, trial and feedback conducted using online forms, both in quantitative and qualitative data. Fourth, evaluation and dissemination. Several significant findings were established. At first, the limitation of data types (mainly categorical and ordinal) means that the multivariate display of data in one graphic was unavailable. However, in general, the user experiences were favorable. The superiority of data visualizations was agreed by the users. Nevertheless, several concerns emerged. First, the use of a mobile device was growing. Second, the need for the user for reference points, instead of comparing between provinces. Last, the interest in geographically more in-depth data, especially on the city district level. In conclusion, it can be observed that this program has evolved into something specific for the Indonesian context. Further analysis of various concerns is needed to further how Mata-Data can improve data communication in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":32959,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46225006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
