This study discuses the technique to improve students’ ability in speaking English especially for the students of twelfth grade and the students’ respond to the drama technique in teaching speaking. The researcher focuses on the method to improve the speaking ability. The study has two questions as stated in the problem formulation: 1.) How is the use of drama in teaching learning process of speaking at the XII grade of SMA Santo Thomas Yogyakarta? 2.) How were the students’ responses to the application of drama in teaching speaking at the XII grade of SMA Santo Thomas Yogyakarta?This study belonged to classroom action research as a methodology in teaching learning process of speaking. The research involved collaboration and cooperative in learning teaching process of English. Classroom action research occurs through a dynamic and complementary process which was consisting of five essentials moment; reconnaissance, planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. This research consisted of two cycles and each cycle has planning, implementation, observation, and reflection as the research procedure. In each cycle’s researcher using drama technique to deliver the subject of the lesson.The findings of this research showed the improvement in many aspects in teaching learning process of speaking by comparing before and after using drama technique. It indicated that the teaching learning process was successful, both the researcher and the students gained the objectives of teaching and learning process. It is a descriptive qualitative study involving four English teachers from two schools that have different characteristics in terms of school management. The first school is under Ministry of National Education (MONE) and another is under Ministry of Religion Affairs (MORA). The data gained are from observation, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), in-depth interview, and documentation. The findings of this research shows that the students were more delighted in learning when the teacher implemented exciting learning activities. Teachers used activities to make the students enthusiastic to participate in English learning activities and to make them spurred in learning English. The teacher triggered the students by implementing activities such as Near Peer Role Model (NPRM), Mingling Games and Tiered. The research belongs to an Educational Research and Development (R&D) and adopted the ten steps of Borg and Gall’s model (1983) which are simplified into three main stages. They are: (1) Preliminary Study, (2) Development and (3) Field Testing. The material development follows Nation and Macalister’s curriculum design model in which needs, environment and principles were taken into account in determining the content and sequence to achieve the goals, format and presentation of the materials and monitoring and assessment.  The developed listening materials consist of student work book and audio recording created with listening media and cool edit deluxe programs. The data were collected through observation, open questionnaires, and interviews and were analyzed using Miles, Huberman and Saldana’s flow model of qualitative data research which included data collection, data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing.The findings revealed that the evaluation of ELLIS Program in English teaching and learning process in SMP Bopkri 3 Yogyakarta related to the process of context was in line with the objective of the program that is improving the students’ English skills and the program can support the English teaching-learning process. In term of input, the program is appropriate according to the required standard for good teaching learning English, this program is supported by the school’s entire component, the facilities of the teaching-learning process is completed, the material in ELLIS program can apply consecutively to be able to improve students’ English skill. On the process of teaching and learning has appropriated, the schedules of ELLIS program is held correctly and on time, every meeting the teacher always use ELLIS, the procedures and activities ELLIS program are implemented correctly, the students always participate actively during the learning process, the students more interested in learning English. Dealing with product the students more understand, easier in catching the material and more comfortable in taking part of the learning process, they feel happy and feel that their ability in learning English increase, the students’ English skill can improve successfully, the students can communicate with the teacher and their other friends in English correctly, the aim of this program can hold successfully. The data were taken from the recorded students’ voice. The researcher used recording, transcribing and analyzing technique. The researcher analyzed the data: 1. comparing English sounds and students’ pronunciation, 2. finding out the consonant, vowel and diphthong mispronounced by the students, 3. finding out students’ difficulties in pronouncing the English sounds, 4. finding out the students’ problems in pronouncing English sounds, 5. drawing a conclusion. The Subjects of this research are Banjar students of ninth grade at SMPN 2 Halong.It is found out that the students had problems in pronouncing the English sounds of consonant (/t/, /θ/, /ʃ/, /-t/, /f, /ʒ /, /-d/), vowel (/ɒ/, /e/, /oʊ/) and diphthong( /eɪ/, /oʊ/, /ə r /). The sounds /θ/ are pronounced as [t], /ʃ/ is as [s], /ɒ / as [u], /oʊ/ as [aw], /ʒ/ as [s], while /t/, /eɪ /, /-t/, /-d/ and /ər/ are pronounced they are written. Vocabulary is very important because it is one of the most functional language elements needed to perform communication. This paper reports a case study on vocabulary learning by a group of adult students learning English in two different universities. The objective of this research is to describe the profile of the vocabulary learning of the ten best vocabulary masters in two private universities. The research involved 5 students from STMIK Amikom and 5 students from ABA Sinema; both are in Yogyakarta. Those participants were chosen based three criteria; their cognitive, affective and psychomotor factors. This research belongs to an evaluation research. In this study, four kinds of English textbook for the seventh grade of junior high school; ‘When English Rings The Bells’, ‘Let’s Speak English’, ‘Bright’, and ‘Headline English’, were  analyzed  based on 2013 English curriculum. The instruments used in this research was a checklist on teachers’ interview and also students’ interview. The data in this research were analyzed by using 14 criteria according to Tomlinson (2008) to evaluate the course book. Findings show that the materials in the textbooks do not conform to the basic competences in the syllabus. This study shows that not all the content of the textbooks conform to the basic competences in the syllabus of English Curriculum 2013. Beside that some of books also don’t meet the learners want and need. Another finding is that those books had its strengths and weaknesses. Those books provide varied activities and texts and develop character buildings. Besides, they are visually attractive. This research is aimed at describing interpersonal, ideational and textual meanings found in the students’ hortatory exposition texts. The method of this research is a discourse analysis which analyzed meanings. The interpersonal meaning is to analyze the Mood and Modality; the ideational meaning is Transitivity; and the Textual meaning is Thematic Structure. The result of the research showed three points of conclusion. First, in terms of interpersonal meaning, it shows that the students used Declarative Mood types in their texts to give information. Most of the students used simple present tense to give related information based on the topic. Most of the students used high nominalization as the subjects of their clauses. This implies that the texts are in the form of written texts. Second, transitivity system is about people activities in particular place and time. It can be seen from the occurrence of the dominant use of of material process, relational process, and circumstance of location. Third, thematic structure showed that the clauses mostly used ideational theme. The reseacher found that the most dominant theme was the unmarked theme. It implies that the students used high nominalization because they frequently used subjects and circumstances as the nominalization in the beginning of the clauses. The research settings were SMKN I Bantul and SMKN 1 Kasihan Bantul. The data was collected through an open questionnaire. It was analyzed by categorizing the data using a continuous comparison technique. The key instrument of this research was the researcher himself. This study belongs to an Educational Research and Development. The model was developed by adapting Borg and Gall’s model (1983) simplified into six steps: 1) Research and Information Collecting or Need Analysis, 2) Planning, 3) Develop Preliminary Product, 4) Field Testing and Experts’ Judgments, 5) Product Revision, 6) Dissemination and Implementation. The field try-out was conducted in one class of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Candimulyo Magelang. The data were collected from interview, questionnaire, teacher’s field notes, students’ note, test results, and experts’ feedback. The collected data were analyzed using four stages of Miles and Huberman (1994) qualitative data analysis: data collection, data reduction, data displayed, and drawing and verifying conclusion. The result of the research showed that Set Phrases was an effective model to enhance students’ speaking skill indicated by the increasing students’ fluency, accuracy, and self-confidence in speaking. Set Phrases indicates to be appropriate for novice learners in large classes and for those who have low motivation in learning English. Besides, the students got benefits of understanding English materials more easily, increasing motivation, and having better interaction with others.
