This condition leads to some changes concerning the gender roles in a family. However, it does not change the division of household tasks between husband and wife. Women are still considered responsible for doing most of the household tasks. This topic is often presented as the central theme in some literary works, particularly novels. This research examines three different novels, Opening Belle, I Don’t Know How She Does It, and The Balance Project, by analyzing the inequality in dividing household tasks faced by the working mothers in the novels. This research uses a qualitative method consisting of description, reduction, and selection stages. The analysis results show that the working mothers still do most household tasks, while their husbands do not help them much. Although they can pay someone to help them do the tasks, however, the help is not as good as expected. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method so that the data can be described as clearly and objectively as possible by the researchers' subjective views. To avoid bias on the validity of the research results, triangulation was carried out by comparing the researchers' interpretations with some supporting literature. The result of this research is that five dolanan songs contain many meanings. The songs offer a deep meaning about the condition of the environment that grows around it to increase the value of character, good behavior, the environment - especially cleanliness, health, and religious life. The character values are conveyed through satire or humor. Dolanan songs have meanings, both explicit and implicit, about this life. These songs are neatly arranged both in terms of structural both physically and mentally. It aims at understanding the students' perception of translation competence and adaptation to the translation activities in class.  The eco-translatology model proposed that students be active as the translator; most activities are students-centered.  Students act as a translator in which they benefit from resources around them as in an ecosystem life.  The method in this study is descriptive by identifying the students’ perception of translation competence. Translation competence is often associated with students taking part in translation subjects only as mastering linguistics competence without knowing the basic translation competence principle. Therefore, by applying eco-translatology, the students know that translation is not merely transferring the language unit and meaning from source texts (ST) into target texts (TT). The research results show that students had a better understanding when eco –translatology was applied. They acknowledge that translator competence should be grasped to be a real translator. Khasanah","doi":"10.18860/ling.v15i2.8271","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18860/ling.v15i2.8271","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of this study is to discover positive-self and negative-other representations of Brunei’s Sharia Law on LGBT through the lexical choices used by the New Strait Times and Bangkok Post also reveals the ideology from both of the media. This study uses a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis as the research design. Following Van Dijk’s analytical framework, the words were selected and classified into word class, type of meaning (lexical or contextual), and category (positive or negative).  Ideology from both media is obtained from the cognition analysis of the journalist's expression based on the co-text, context, and social context (social condition). The result showed that both media used lexical choices that indicate positive representation of LGBT by stating LGBT as victims, while negative representation on Brunei’s Government, Muslim, and Sharia law as a persecutor. Objects of this research are verses in Quran translation texts containing Muhammad's role as a speech partner and speaker. Data were collected using observation and documentation techniques and analyzed using the referential identity method. The study found that Muhammad's characters as a speech partner and speaker in Quran translation texts contain many educational values applicable to language ethics. They include: utilizing trusted source as information basis of using language, being a trustworthy communicator of language, integrity in language and faith, not accusing without accurate information, applying proper respect to speech partners, utilization of positive tone, using the language for harmony. However, many people are marginalized and neglected by this development. Due to this fact, most Riau Malay people tend to have negative prejudice and not accept the presence of foreign immigrants, including Indonesian Chinese. However, Olyrinson can blend in with the local community through his work, which often raises topics about humanity and his real-life. Using a three-dimensional framework of Fairclough (1989; 1992a; 1992b; 1995a; and 1995b), this study critically explores the various efforts made by Olyrinson in the short story \"Jalan Sumur Mati\" to defend his existence by changing prejudices. As parents' actions and behaviours convey meaning to their children, they contribute to the formation of the children's gender identity development. The present study aims to investigate the parental influence on the gender identity development of a child character named Claude in Laurie Frankel's This Is How It Always Is. This study is a literary criticism concerning the issue of gender identity development in a literary work viewed from a psychological approach. The data were collected from a novel entitled This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel and analyzed using the social cognitive theory of gender development by Bussey Bandura (1999). The results of the study revealed that his parents influence Claude's gender identity development through the process of modelling as a part of observational learning, which is also supported by parents' evaluative reactions such as rewards or punishments. Sarcasm is the dominant language style used in Mark Manson's The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck. This study aims to identify sentence forms of sarcasm and analyze the translation quality of sarcastic expressions. This translation study employs a qualitative descriptive design. The research data takes the form of sentences containing sarcasm and its translation. The data is collected through document analysis, interviews, and focus group discussions. The results showed four types of sarcasm in the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck, including ridicule, satire, proximity, and humor. Besides, the translation quality of the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck has a high level of accuracy, acceptability, and readability, evidenced by the proper use of eleven translation techniques applied by the translator to 145 data. To this end, the present study used a quantitative approach The results show that the directive utterances used by Arabic language lecturers at East Java’s PTAIN tend to take the form of direct speech acts through certain language politeness features. Besides, the hierarchy of the directive politeness speech in Arabic and Indonesian shared a similar degree of illocution. However, there is no significant difference between the hierarchy of directive politeness speech in Arabic, Indonesian, and Javanese perceived by the Arabic language teachers based on the Chi-square statistics test with α = 0.05. This research is qualitative research with a content analysis approach. The data was collected through documentation techniques. The data was further analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques, including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification.
