For analysis, the speeches of politicians were selected during the 1st Republican primary debates held in the City of Milwaukee on August 23, 2023, streamed by the Fox News channel. The analysis allowed us to identify a 3-level structure of agonal strategies implemented by politicians within the framework of political debate. The 1st (basic) level of strategies – an introductive one – includes strategies for self-positioning, self-presentation and opponent defamation. The purpose of these strategies in terms of their agonal character is to position oneself as a leader worth winning the campaign, demonstrating individual undeniable advantages compared to other candidates and the expulsion of negative features of rivals. The verifying strategies of the 2nd level consist in operating with information received from the opponent aimed at producing an impact on the recipient, and include such strategies as self-defence and the opponent defamation. The additive strategy of the 3rd (highest) level combines the goals and objectives of the strategies of both lower levels; however, it has a special purpose inherent only to it – to give new meaning to the facts and phenomena reported by opponents, by introducing a new angle of tackling the problem. The main strategies at this level include ones of rational and emotional convictions realised by the tactics of introducing new facts and the new aspect ultimately aiming at establishing new semantic linkages in the recipient minds at the site of the destruction of semantic linkages, initially present in the speech of the political opponent. Their legal procedures and institutions were influenced by various factors. Currently, North African legal systems are a combination of French positive law, local customs and Islamic law. However, the process of the formation of the legal institutions of the Maghreb took a long time; it was influenced by both subjective political factors and the customary law of the Berber tribes. The purpose of this study is to establish the legal status of judges in litigation in the medieval Maghreb. The main source for studying the judicial process of the medieval Maghreb are the texts of fatwas compiled by educated jurists of the 14th – 15th centuries. Therefore, when studying the problem, the authors of the article used the method of analysing the legal text in combination with the principle of historicism. The main result of the study was the conclusion that the powers, including judicial, of the qadi in regions remote from the centre of the state were replaced by the powers of other officials, often acting on the basis of Berber customary law. {"title":"Autobiographical myth by Igor Kholin in the context of soviet discourse (based on the novel “Cats and Mice”)","authors":"A. Bokarev, Yulia V. Adrian","doi":"10.34216/1998-0817-2023-29-4-109-117","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.34216/1998-0817-2023-29-4-109-117","url":null,"abstract":"The article is aimed at considering the genesis, structure and representation forms of the autobiographical myth by “Lianozovo School” poet Igor Kholin in his novel “Cats and Mice”. It is proved that the sociocultural context and world-modeling category of this myth is the opposition between official and uncensored literature, which is characteristic of Soviet discourse and brings to the fore the author’s role of a nonconformist poet. The latter is formed through introducing a system of characters – Igor Kholin’s “twins” – into the text, to whom he attributes not only the details of his private life, but also his published works. As a result, artist and amateur poet Nikolai Sergeevich, poets Holly and Savely Volin and the Author writing the novel “Cats and Mice” are united by a common biography which excludes their involvement in artistic practices that dominate the cultural space. The desire to dissociate himself from them also determines the key semes of Igor Kholin’s myth – “opposition to official art” emphasising the contraposition of underground literature to any “permitted” forms of literature and “pretense to aesthetic superiority” absolutising its artistic primacy and avant-gardism. The first seme is explicit and “served” by the motifs of an aesthetic demarcation between “state publishing” and “self-publishing”, their mutual intolerance and notorious inadequacy of assessments. The second seme is implicit and “supported” by motifs realising the thematic invariant of “freedom Vs. oppression” (with the former being uncensored literature with sharp “discrepancy” with reality and the unpredictability of text unfolding). The main plot is connected with a serious crime, the victim of which is the mother of Joe Coutts, but in the course of the narrative the writer describes many features of the culture and history of Ojibwe tribe. Religion belongs to the most important aspects of Indian life she focuses on. The difference in the religious views of individual members of the tribe is accounted for by the history of their ancestors’ residence on the continent and their interaction with whites. Louise Erdrich not only states the coexistence of traditional Indian beliefs and the Catholic faith within the tribe (for which she concentrates on the relevant characters who are adherents of a particular religious practice), but also traces the origins of this state of affairs. At the same time the writer does not portray Catholicism and the religious beliefs of the indigenous population as opposing ideas about the world. On the basis of published materials of the All-Union population censuses of 1979 and 1989 as well as statistical data of the current population count, the peculiarities of the population composition by sex and age are highlighted by the authoress; moreover, the distribution of the population by sex in enlarged age groups is analysed. With regard to the distribution of population by sex in the study region in the 1980s, there was a tendency for the number of women to exceed the number of men. However, by 1989, the feminisation index, which shows the ratio of the number of women to one hundred men, had been gradually decreasing in both regions. The process of equalisation of the sex structure of the population had had its effect. The age composition of the inhabitants of the area is considered from the economic point of view in order to highlight general changes in the enlarged age groups. According to the results of the analysis of the materials of the 1979 and 1989 population censuses, the conclusion about the decrease in the number of the most extensive and economically active group of the working-age population and about the increase in the share of persons above the working age is made. The population of both regions was gradually ageing «from above». In the structure of distribution of residents of Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions and in the Russian Republic as a whole by sex in enlarged age groups in the 1980s, it is certain that in the groups of population younger than able-bodied and working age, men prevailed. Traumatic stress is an acute reaction to pathophysiological factor affecting the psychoemotional sphere and characterised by changes in behaviour patterns including speech. The purpose of this study is the auditory analysis of speech, which demonstrates changes of formal characteristics at the tempo level, rhythm and mistakes under emotional intensity. The subject of the study is the formal speech characteristics of patients with various injuries under natural conditions of pathophysiological acute stress. Systemic principles of the speech analysis are based on an interdisciplinary approach and includes determination of the personality psychological type and the mental status of each subject at the time of patient examination to diagnose the state of emotional intensity. Sarayeva","doi":"10.34216/1998-0817-2023-29-4-26-33","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.34216/1998-0817-2023-29-4-26-33","url":null,"abstract":"The ideas of Vasily Maklakov, the lawyer, a member of the Central Committee of the Constitutional Democratic Party, about the influence of Sergei Witte, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, on the process of Russian political transformation in 1905-1906 are analysed in the article. What served as sources for the study are recollections of Vasily Maklakov, Sergei Witte, Pavel Milyukov, Alexander Kiesewetter, Alexander Izvolsky. Vasily Maklakov’s ideas about the circumstances of the change in Sergei Witte’s perceptions of the form of government in Russia are revealed. It is proved that from October 1905 to April 1906, Vasily Maklakov perceived Sergei Witte as a supporter of Russia’s sustainable constitutional development. Vasily Maklakov’s perceptions of the reasons for Sergei Witte’s attempts to co-operate with the liberals are interpreted as follows – such an agreement would ensure liberal reforms. Maklkov’s judgements about the reasons for Witte’s shift to repressive policies against the revolutionaries – they were carrying out wrongdoing – are reconstructed in the article. Maklakov’s justification of the reasons for the right and liberal politicians’ refusal to support Witte’s policy is revealed. The differences in Maklakov’s and Milyukov’s views on Witte’s policy in 1905-1906 are disclosed. Maklakov characterised Witte as a great statesman able to persuade the emperor to introduce a constitution in order to create a state of law; however, to suppress the revolution, the said nobleman had to use repression as well. Witte’s first line of action led to criticism of his policies by conservatives, while constitutional democrats disagreed with the proposed version of the constitution and condemned the ill-treatment towards radicals. According to Maklakov, the lack of support from influential political forces was one of the reasons why Witte had to resign. The scientific problem is determined by the trend towards globalisation of all contemporary art types, on the one hand, and the need to preserve cultural heritage, on the other hand. The aim of the work is to identify the characteristic features of Nigerian English script texts – phenomena created due to creolisation process defined as the process of British English adapting procedure to the realities of local languages and cultures. The Nigerian script text is a creolised type of text with characteristic of unique properties – the presence of detailed instructions in the form of author’s remarks which provide expanded information for subsequent stepwise actions for the director, actors, editors, makeup and costume designers; a double process of creolisation due to the necessary adaptation to numerous local languages and cultures. It is proved that Nigerian script texts, influenced by the process of creolisation, are largely subject to grammatical transformations. The most productive grammatical changes include: the consistent use of nouns and pronouns within the same semantic group; the simplification of the specific verb forms manifested in the use of simple forms and omission of auxiliary verbs in interrogative and negative sentences. It considers such categories of poetics as composition, chronotope and a system of characters. The study analyses the theme of maturation and the traits of ‟southern noir”, traditional and innovative characteristics of the initiation novel. Due to these peculiarities the American writer is not only able to focus on the inner life of the main heroine, but also to present the historical and cultural background of the narrative, as well as to create expressive psychological portraits of the characters. The conclusion is made about the transfer of ideas from human personality formation and maturation to the ethno-racial context, the formation of a specific model of initiation in the American literature. The process of migration of adult literature in children’s literature is noted both at the level of individual storylines and entire narratives. The novel by Harper Lee contains the traits of the initiation novel, as the main semantic dominant theme is maturation through overcoming challenges (social injustice, cruelty, ambivalence of the categories of good and evil).
