The aim of the study is to present the meaning, potential of use and legal issues related to the use of complementary, alternative and integrative medicine in the European Union member states. Material and methods. Non-systematic review. Analysis of the literature on the subject covering the issues related to using and legal issues of complementary and alternative medicine methods in the context of the integration of Evidence Based Medicine methods into conventional medicine. Results. Despite attempts to introduce restrictions and introduce legal regulations regarding the use of unconventional medicine, it is still common to use unconfirmed methods, based on information searched on the Internet or using the services of people without any education in a given field. Lack of or insufficient regulations to manage the quality, safety and effectiveness of complementary and alternative medicine methods, and the lack of integration between the health care system and CAM pose the greatest risk. Conclusions. Due to the ever-increasing public demand for the use of complementary medicine methods, it is necessary to take steps to introduce integrative medicine that will ensure safe and effective patient-centered care, taking into account the comparability and availability of CAM practices in European Union member states.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130235596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kidney transplantation is the preferred form of treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease (compared to dialysis). Many countries allow living donor kidney transplantation to address organ shortage from deceased donors. There are several types of donation depending on the relationship of the living donor to the recipient. The Ethics, Legal and Psychosocial Aspects of Organ Transplantation (ELPAT) section of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) classifies altruistic kidney donation to a stranger as “unspecified”. Unspecified living donation is not a new form of donation, but it is only legal in a small number of countries. Aim. The aim of the study is to compare the practice of live unspecified kidney donation in the world. This article summarizes the knowledge of the prevalence of unspecified kidney donation, the donor candidate evaluation process, perioperative donor support, and the ethical dilemmas that accompany this procedure.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130085201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The professional group of nurses is characterized by generational diversity. Representatives of different age groups have similar attitudes and values shaped by the socio-cultural environment. Understanding the differences between generations and building multi-generational teams help in providing nursing services of the highest level. Aim. The aim of the study was to analyze the influence of generational differences on intergenerational cooperation among nurses. Material and methods. A non-systematic review and analysis of published articles both in Polish and English. Discussion. Each generation has its own values and beliefs. Therefore, behavior and nursing practice may differ among generations. There are many challenges in multi-generational work environments, e.g. team communication, conflicts, work-life balance, and the ability to learn from colleagues with regards to everyday nursing practice and the use of technology. The main intergenerational differentiation can be seen in attitudes to work and professional development, communication, leadership and management. Summary. Managing a team should involve identification of the employees’ strengths, while addressing their weaknesses in certain skills. The support of mentors and development opportunities are crucial aspects of work for nurses at the beginning of their career. The effectiveness of team communication can be increased by encouraging open communication with respect for members of each generation. Promoting the exchange of knowledge and work experience in daily nursing practice will help each generation achieve its full potential, which will, in turn, enable the provision of both high quality patient care and employee satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126049524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobbing is a systemic problem that affects all work sectors, including the healthcare sector. Healthcare professionals are a group that is exposed to a high level of stress and thus, to the risk of negative situations in the workplace. The prevalence of mobbing in nurses is high. Mobbed nurses more often suffer from stressful headaches, insomnia, anxiety and describe depressive symptoms. Aim. The aim of this study is to determine the rate of mobbing in a selected sample of nurses and to describe how nurses perceive their state of health. To determine whether there is a statistically significant connection among the incidence of mobbing, perceived state of health, age of nurses and the length of their practice. Material and methods. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed. The standardized tools Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised and General Health Questionnaire-28 were used. The research group consisted of nurses working in the acute care departments of selected medical facilities. Results. A total number of 715 nurses from all the regions of the Czech Republic participated in the study. The rate of nurses’ experience with negative acts in the workplace is 79.3%. Mobbed nurses report health disorders more often, especially in the area of somatic symptoms, anxiety, and insomnia. A higher number of negative acts are reported by younger nurses with a shorter period of overall nursing practice. Conclusions. The occurrence of mobbing in the selected sample of nurses in the Czech Republic was confirmed. Mobbed nurses perceive and report deteriorating of their health condition.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131183226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work of a nurse in palliative care creates the necessity to respect appropriate ethical directives in fulfilling professional duties resulting from the need to protect patients’ basic values and rights. Aim. Assessing the determinants of nurse ethical behavior in palliative care. Material and methods. The study material was collected from 101 nurses working in the palliative care system. The study used the method of diagnostic survey by means of questionnaire technique. The research tool was the author’s survey questionnaire consisting of 26 questions. Non-parametric tests were used in data analysis: Pearson’s χ2 independence test, Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test. The significance level of p<0.05 was assumed. Calculations were performed with SPSS 20 program. Results. According to 69.3% of nurses, the character and personality of the nurse should be considered as the main determinant of ethical conduct in nursing work. In the opinion of 44.6%, they are the qualifications and professional competence that influence ethical conduct in the work of a nurse. Conclusions. The mean knowledge of the code of professional ethics of nurses in the study group was high, as it was 5.03 points (SD=0.64). Nurses and nurse practitioners who had higher knowledge of the principles of the code of professional ethics for nurses were more likely to be guided by ethical principles in their work.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125994801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality of life is a concept which can be considered from an objective and subjective perspective. The level of life quality is determined by a number of factors, both those dependent on us and those beyond our control. Aim. Reports in the literature indicate that changes in the biological, psychological, and social spheres that occur during pregnancy and the postpartum period can affect women’s quality of life. Therefore, a study was undertaken to evaluate the relation between the quality of life of women in the postpartum period and socio-demographic variables. Material and method. The study included 350 postpartum women. The research method was a diagnostic survey carried out with the use of the Polish version of EQ-5D-5L Health Questionnaire, which is a standardized tool, and an original questionnaire was used to collect the socio-demographic data. Results. Postpartum women were mainly characterized by high and average levels of quality of life. Encouragingly, only one in ten postpartum women in the present study experienced a low level of quality of life. Perception of quality of life of postpartum women was differentiated by their occupational status and financial situation. Women who were studying or learning and those who declared being in a worse financial situation predominated in the group with a low quality of life. Other variables, such as age, level of education and marital status, did not affect the quality of life of postpartum women.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126640043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research utilization is the core of evidence-based practice. Nurse managers have an important role to support competence management and research utilization in nursing care. Aim. The aim of the study was to investigate the research utilization competence of Slovenian nurses working in hospitals and the received support from nurse managers related to research utilization. Research utilization competence comprises attitudes and the knowledge and skills. Methods. A descriptive, cross-sectional study design was used. The participants were nurses (n=154) from eight hospitals in Slovenia. Data was collected using the Competence in Research Utilization instrument and analyzed statistically. Results. Nurses’ attitudes were positive. Nurses’ appreciation of research utilization was higher than their readiness to commit themselves to research utilization. Nurses’ knowledge related to acquisition research evidence and reading and appraising research was rather limited even if they assessed their skills as above moderate. The received support from nurse managers related moderately to nurses’ research utilization skills. Conclusions. The research utilization competence of nurses is recommended to be strengthened with systematic competence management and support from nurse managers in clinical practice. Nurse managers can support nurses’ research utilization competence by encouraging them to participate in continuing education and by building systematic academic cooperation and networking between educators, researchers, and nurse clinicians.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126969416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Schizophrenia spectrum disorders are a major challenge for modern psychiatry. Epidemiological data indicate an increasing trend in the prevalence of such disorders, as well as other disorders from the schizophrenia spectrum. In a long-term perspective, this means that highly specialised (both nursing and medical) care, broadly understood community care, and innovative rehabilitation methods able to reduce cognitive and executive deficits will be necessary. Aim. The aim of this paper is to propose the use of the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) in the process of diagnosing and planning care for patients with schizophrenia. Material and method. The paper is based on the individual case study method and for the analysis of the obtained data the following research techniques were used: interview, observation, measurement, documentation analysis. The research tools: Individual Nursing Care Card, Mental Health Assessment Card, SAD PERSONS Scale for Suicide Risk Assessment, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and C-HOBIC Fatigue Assessment Scale. Results. The collected data allow the formulation of 15 diagnoses in accordance with ICNP®. For the three selected diagnoses, a nursing care plan was drawn up, which included, depending on the patient’s needs, nursing interventions. Conclusions. ICNP® as a classification of nursing diagnoses allows the drafting of nursing diagnoses related to the mental state of the subject of care; various interventions provide a large selection of them.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"407 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122928538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Depending on the stage and progression of the disease, patients with chronic kidney disease (Przewlekła Choroba Nerek) – CKD receive care at various levels of the Polish healthcare system, including primary care (Podstawowa Opieka Zdrowotna) – PHC teams, specialist clinics (Ambulatoryjna Opieka Specjalistyczna) – AOS, hospitals, as well as dialysis and transplant centers. The study aimed at analyzing the use of PHC and AOS services by hemodialysis patients treated in Fresenius Dialysis Centers from Poland. Material and methods. The study was based on a questionnaire survey and the Acceptance of Illness Scale questionnaire (Skala Akceptacji Choroby) – AIS. The total number of 159 patients participated in the study. The data was obtained from the Voivodeship Department of the National Health Fund on the use of PHC services in 2015, 2016 and 2017 by hemodialysis patients. Results. The mean age of the respondents was 67.1±13.1 years. Almost all hemodialysis patients (98.7%) required additional treatment for CKD comorbidities. Over the last year before the survey, 5.7% of the respondents used PHC nursing services and no woman used PHC midwifery services. Participation in “Leki 75+” PHC program was indicated by 37.3% of those eligible. In the said period, AOS services were used by 66.7% of the respondents, including a greater percentage of urban rather than rural inhabitants (71.1% vs 58%; p<0.05). Conclusions. Multiple morbidity and a high percentage of patients receiving AOS services in the analyzed period indicate the need to provide hemodialysis patients with coordinated care supervised by a dialysis center physician. Fulfilling PHC tasks by such physicians suggests the need to increase their numbers and to improve the financing of renal replacement therapy.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115205554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
