Empowerment is a process that allows patients to perform self-control and self-management of anticoagulant therapy, while allowing them to influence the process and the outcomes of their treatment. Aim. Assessment of the level of empowerment of patients on anticoagulant treatment before and after the education. Material and methods. A quantitative study with structured instrument was used. The number of 46 patients with antiphospholipid syndrome treated in the anticoagulation clinic at the general hospital participated in the study, and 37 patients were subsequently enrolled in the training. Data were collected to determine their level of empowerment. Results and conclusion. We divided the patients into four categories of empowerment. We found that after education, patients had statistically significant higher levels of empowerment. After the education, all 37 patients were classified into the fourth category, indicating high patient participation. Empowered patients make their own decisions about their health, they have a better relationship with health professionals, they follow instructions, take greater responsibility for their health, and reduce the need for hospitalisations and urgent care.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122346058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most frequent source of information on sexual violence are the victims. It should be borne in mind that children rarely disclose sexual abuse directly, and the symptoms depend on how long they have been sexually abused, the relationship with the perpetrator, the kind of sexual activities, and factors related to the child’s development. The obvious consequences of child sexual abuse are body injuries: genitourinary tract infections and injuries to the external genitalia. Notwithstanding, the psychological consequences are more serious than the physical injuries. Aim. The study aimed to present the problem of sexually abused children including diagnostics and therapy of victims of violence. Conclusions. The effects of sexual abuse of a child include, in addition to physical trauma, also the disruption of proper psychosexual development. The task of doctors, nursing staff , educators, and psychologists is to efficiently and confidently identify the crime, enabling the initiation of therapeutic activities and legal proceedings.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134152939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meeting the religious needs of hospitalized patients is an essential part of nursing care. Their timely identification by nurses and subsequent satisfaction may lead to an easier adaptation to the hospital environment and illness, and contribute to the overall comfort of the patients. Aim. The aim of the study was to determine the religiosity of selected hospitalized patients in the premorbid and morbid period and the participation of nurses in meeting religious needs. Material and methods. To achieve the goals, we chose a qualitative method – a case study. A Spiritual Screening Tool for Older Adults and a questionnaire by Canda and Furman were used to assess spirituality and religiosity implicitly and explicitly. The respondent sample consisted of three patients hospitalized in inpatient wards of medical facilities with different gender, diagnoses and duration of the disease. Results. According to Spiritual Screening Tool for Older Adults, we found positive spiritual health in patients A, M and R. Religious needs during hospitalization were partially satisfied in patient A and fully satisfied in patients M and R, but only through individual activities (prayer, visiting the hospital chapel and others). None of the patients had their needs met by nurses. Conclusions. We recommend using the tools aimed at assessing patients’ religiosity and continue with the planning and implementation of nursing interventions accordingly. Active cooperattion with “spiritual assistants” and integrating the issue of religious needs into the content of education of future nurses are also recommended.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122969727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This report illustrates a research on the mediatization of emotions during the first wave of Covid-19 in an interdisciplinary approach. The mechanisms of emotions generation in media messages as well as the content and visual elements of functioning of the pandemic’s subject in culture or religion have been described. Material and methods. The research was carried out on multimodal media publications on the pandemic in global messages. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the research (social sciences, humanities, social communication and media sciences), a set of research methods and techniques was used: content analysis, analysis of visual metaphors or workshop analysis of the media message. Results. The mediatization of emotions in various areas of social life was examined on the basis of media analysis of religious, consumer-economic, educational, cultural messages. A catalogue of mechanisms for the mediatization of emotions in media coverage was created. New symbols representing the SarsCov-2 pandemic were shown. Conclusions. The research shows that the mediatization of factors is a process of mediation not only in learning about and creating social reality, but also in controlling attention. During the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, this role was played by emotional media discourses and mechanisms of generating emotions in the media message.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115564076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In times of the dehumanisation of medicine, a holistic approach to patients seems indispensable. Moreover, there is an increasing number of scientific papers on the significance of soft competencies and the non-clinical nature of care in the quality and effectiveness of therapeutic processes. The staff often neglects or ignores the elements of spiritual care in everyday practice. It results from the concern not to interfere with the patient’s personal life and from staff shortages, which entails the staff ’s heavy workload on duty. Consequently, a phenomenon known as missing nursing care was diagnosed, involving skipping some activities during everyday nursing practice in order to perform the indispensable, most essential procedures for the patient. Aim. The aim of the study was to present the importance of spiritual care in nursing and to present tools for its measurement. Method. The method is an nonsystematic review of current national and world literature. Summary. Providing spiritual care is primarily aimed at responding to patients’ needs and concerns. Such care is based on effective communication skills, through which a nurse establishes a bond and trust with the patient, and consequently, the patient is more willing to engage in therapeutic processes, so hospitalisation might be reduced significantly.","PeriodicalId":326203,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo XXI wieku / Nursing in the 21st Century","volume":"1184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127434777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
