Incorporating antibiotics into platelet concentrates can be considered for local antibiotic administration. Method: The sample in this study used Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans which was divided into 4 partitions on each plate. Each plate was applied with Platelets Rich Fibrin (PRF) and Injectable Platelet rich fibrin (I-PRF) incorporated with metronidazole pre-centrifugation and two negative controls (PRF and I-PRF without metronidazole). The observation was performed after 1 day and 7 days of incubation by measuring inhibition zone diameter using vernier caliper. The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA followed by post-hoc LSD. Result: I-PRF with metronidazole had the highest bacteria inhibition compared with other groups (p<0,05) on incubation day 1 and 7; I-PRF and PRF with metronidazole showed higher bacteria inhibition compared with I-PRF and PRF without metronidazole (p<0,05). This study aims to evaluate the effect of effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L. extract on antifungal properties and flexural strength acrylic after immersion for three duration times.Method: Extracts were made by maceration method with ethanol. For the antifungal test, effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract was prepared by combining the Acanthus ilicifolius L extract 4% and sodium perborate with two ratios, 1:7 and 1:14. The microdilution method was carried out. Effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract 4% with ratio 1:7 was prepared for the flexural strength test. The fifty-four heat-cured acrylic resin (20x10x2.5mm) were fabricated and divided into 3 groups. Group 1 was immersed in aquadest (control); Group 2 was immersed in sodium perborate; Group 3 was immersed in effervescent Acanthous ilicifolius L. extract. Each group was immersed for 15 min, 8, and 56 hours (n=6). The flexural strength test was performed using Universal Testing Machine.Result: Effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L. extract exhibited antifungal activity which increased in an effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract-dependent manner significantly (0.57 to 0.50 OD). There were no significant differences between sodium perborate, effervescent_AI1 (1:7) and effervescent_AI2 (1:14). The flexural strength was found to be within the range of 66.1 - 68.3 MPa. There were no significant differences between groups (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract with the ratios 1:7 had a good antifungal effect and appropriate flexural strength after immersion for 15 min, 8, and 56 hours.","PeriodicalId":32568,"journal":{"name":"ODONTO Dental Journal","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81310988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rapidly increasing information has changed people's understanding of the use of fixed orthodontic appliances where the initial function of fixed is for health, but along with changes in one's knowledge, the use of fixed orthodontics has turned into a style or trend that aims to make the appearance more attractive. Most of the youth are currently doing fixed orthodontic treatment only for a lifestyle, trend or style without knowing the complaints and goals of fixed orthodontic treatment. In addition, most teenagers do not know the orthodontic treatment that should be carried out by orthodontic specialist dentists. This study aims to specifythe description of adolescents aged 14-18 years in SMA Negeri 1 Belitang, South Sumatra province regarding the side effects of using orthodontic appliances. Method: This is a descriptive observational using a cross sectional study. The sampling technique used is total sampling with a total of 50 respondents. Result: The results of the study revealed that adolescents' knowledge of the side effects of using fixed orthodontic appliances was in the good category of 13 subjects (26%), sufficient category 29 subjects (58%), and less category 8 subjects (16%). One of the abnormalities of the teeth and mouth is malocclusion. Malocclusion can be fixed by performing orthodontic treatments performed by orthodontist dentists. However, because orthodontic care requires a considerable cost, those with low economy and education look for alternatives by performing orthodontic treatments to dental artisans. Objectives: This study evaluates the patient's quality of life (QoL) with fixed orthodontic treatment by dental artisans (denturists) using the OHIP-14 questionnaire. Methods : The research method used is descriptive observational, where samples are taken by random sampling of the 67 patients who used fixed orthodontic treatment by denturists. This research applied a cross-sectional study conducted by collecting data only using the OHIP-14 questionnaire at a time without further investigation. The combination between binahong leaves and the mucoadhesive patch will increase the effectiveness of RAS treatment. Method: Literature study through PubMed and Google Scholar databases was conducted using PRISMA flow chart looking for the efficacy of binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia) for mucosa wound healing and mucoadhesive patches for the treatment of RAS. Result: The search results found 31 articles that met the criteria for analysis. Flavonoids and saponins in binahong leaves extract act as an anti-inflammatory and increase the proliferation of wound healing. Streptococcus and Staphylococcus are the most common bacteria found in root canals with chronic apical abscess. Resistance to amoxicillin, clindamycin and vancomycin has been increasing year after year, necessitating the use of a sensitivity test. The goal of this research was to determine the sensitivity of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus from root canals with chronic apical abscess to amoxicillin, clindamycin, and vancomycin to make scientific antibiotic selections. Method: Six isolates of Staphylococcus and one Streptococcus from root canals with chronic apical abscess were identified by Remel RapID and tested to 10 g amoxicillin, 2 g clindamycin, and 30 g vancomycin using Kirby-Bauer disk-diffusion sensitivity test. The diameter inhibition zone was measured and interpreted according to the CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute) standard. Result: Three of six Staphylococcus are resistant, one of six are intermediate, and two are sensitive to amoxicillin. While the Streptococcus is sensitive to amoxicillin. In contrast, all Staphylococcus and the Streptococcus are resistant to clindamycin. Whilst four of six Staphylococcus are resistant, two are intermediate, and the Streptococcus is resistant to vancomycin.
