The participants of the study were two English teachers at an Islamic elementary school in Jambi. The study used a descriptive-qualitative approach and data collected through an interview. The results indicated that teachers had a positive attitude toward the textbook. Teachers employed textbook adaptation strategies by modifying tasks and adding and removing materials when using the textbook. Teachers encountered two major challenges: the level of difficulty of the material and limited instructional tools. People cannot hear, speak, read, and write without knowing vocabulary. Likewise in learning a foreign language such as English, vocabulary plays a very important role. Rumah Belajar application is one of application used in learning and found a new understanding of the new media used by the teacher in media online learning. In this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research as the design method. The data was collected from the seventh grade which has been learned using Rumah Belajar. A questionnaire was used as the instrument for this research. The participants of this research were 57 students of the nursing academy (AKPER Bina Insani Sakti Sungai Penuh). The researcher used the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) by Oxford (1990) to determine the student’s language learning strategy. The result revealed that the students used all strategies (memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective, and social), which were categorized as high and medium. The highest mean value was Metacognitive strategies (3.64). The higher scores of nursing academy students also used all six learning strategies, with the highest mean values referring to Metacognitive and Social strategies (4.10). On the other hand, the lower score students sometimes used and generally did not use the learning strategies in their learning activities. which is shown with the highest mean value was the memory strategy (3.02). The teaching and learning process has mostly switched to distance learning and causes problems for all parties involved, including students and their parents, teachers, and school management. While research has been carried out to observe the implementation of distance learning and its challenges and problems, only a few studies have been focused on investigating a possible phenomenon called ‘learning loss’. Learning loss is generally defined as a lack of student interest in the learning process because there is only little to zero direct interaction process during their learning. This research is designed to investigate the possible occurrence of learning loss in a vocational school in Tanjung Jabung Barat. The research was carried out qualitatively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with participants that consist of two English teachers in the school. Questions addressed in the interview were focused on investigating the shift in the teachers’ teaching process and students’ learning activities, including the signs of a decrease or loss of interest in learning and the impact on learning achievement.
