On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the restoration of the Sokol movement in Serbia (1992-2022), the Sokol Association of Serbia organised the symposium \"The Sokol movement of Serbia in three centuries and the Sokol anniversaries in 2022.\" It was held on 29 October 2022 in the Municipal Centre for Physical Culture of Belgrade - the former Sokol House \"Matica\", and since 1934 under the name \"King Aleksandar I Karadjordjević\". In the introductory lecture, I presented aspects of the origin and development of the Sokol training system in Serbia, based on ten significant anniversaries from the chronological factography of the Sokol movement, the contributions of its founders, as well as the characteristics of today's modern Sokol movement. The discussions of the participants of the meeting through the prism of perception of the importance of this training system, in the light of modern life and current events, will justify the attribute of the Sokol movement as a kind of phenomenon of the Sokol movement.","PeriodicalId":325555,"journal":{"name":"Physical Education and Sport Through the Centuries","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135612308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The restrictive measures introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic have led to a significant drop in the level of physical activity, as well as an increase in anxiety and depression. The aim of this research was to determine whether there is a connection between physical activity, mental health and quality of life of women who have experienced COVID-19. The sample of respondents consisted of women between the ages of 20 and 60 (n=193). The IPAQ questionnaire (longer version) was used to assess physical activity. Selfassessment of mental health was determined by the longer version of the DASS questionnaire. Quality of life was assessed by the World Health Organization-WHOQOL questionnaire. Descriptive statistics parameters were calculated, and canonical correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between the level of physical activity, mental health and quality of life. Canonical correlation analysis partially confirmed that there is an association between the level of physical activity and mental health parameters. There is no correlation between the level of physical activity and quality of life. In general, it is necessary for future research to include tests and measuring instruments in order to better understand the real effects of physical activity on mental and physical health after COVID-19 infection. For example, the use of an accelerometer in research would be important for an objective assessment of physical activity levels. Also, other factors that can directly or indirectly affect people's quality of life should be taken into account. Longitudinal research is necessary to examine the impact of different levels, forms and intensities of physical activity on mental health and quality of life after COVID-19 infection.","PeriodicalId":325555,"journal":{"name":"Physical Education and Sport Through the Centuries","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135612328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, interest in sokolism appears among high school students in places like Zaječar, Negotin, Leskovac, Prokuplje, Pirot and other places of the then Moravian Banovina, which was a fertile ground of pan-Slavic, free, and patriotic ideas that manifested through the Sokol movement at the beginning of the twentieth century. With the development of crafts, trade, and small industrial plants, mostly mill-food and brewery plants, young people were also employed. Of course, the emergence and development of Sokol organizations in those, at that time, smaller towns, could not have happened without synergy with enthusiasts and Sokol supporters from Niš, the capital of Moravian Banovina and Sokol Parish, which was created in 1920. It is interesting that sokolism in Zaječar at the beginning of the twentieth century was mainly under the influence of the Belgrade Sokol organization and that contacts with Sokol workers in the town on the Nišava River were not frequent. On the other hand, as early as 1919, the integration of Sokol societies and companies in the northeast of today's Serbia can be observed. More precisely, in the wide area from Požarevac to Kladovo and from Donji Milanovac to Knjaževac, the Sokols associated with Timok Parish, whose central place is in Zaječar.","PeriodicalId":325555,"journal":{"name":"Physical Education and Sport Through the Centuries","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135611038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the systemic nature of sports terminology takes shape only in recent decades, which is related to the awareness of sport as a type of professional activity that is greatly being developed, as well as to the emergence of sports science. Sports terminology, like any other terminology, represents a system because it has systemic features and includes a whole set of concepts from the field of sports, reveals a hierarchical structure, and reflects logical connections between the elements of the system of concepts. The connection between the elements of the system of concepts is clearly represented in the relations of antonymy and gradation, in the relations of logic, in the relations of the whole and parts, as well as in the formation of terms according to the nest system. Just as there is no unified definition of a term/terminological unit, there is also no single way of classifying terms. At this stage of studying terminology, linguists has not yet developed certain norms for the classification of terms used in different areas of life, thus for the time being we can judge the presented classifications in terms of their detail and how effective they are when considering sports terminology. Terminological classifications suggest that division should take place on the basis of important characteristics. From a linguistic point of view, terms are most often classified based on the criteria of form, function, meaning and origin, with the fact that the mentioned criteria are not mutually exclusive. Apart from this classification, there are other ways and criteria by which the division is made, and in this research they are considered by the sphere (area) of use and based on the division into broader thematic groups that have characteristics that determine them.","PeriodicalId":325555,"journal":{"name":"Physical Education and Sport Through the Centuries","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135612302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subject of this research is the existing forms of physical education in the Yugoslav Army (YA) in the period from 1945 to 1950. The aim of the research was to indicate the existing forms of physical education through teaching activities, on the basis of relevant historical sources held in military archives and funds. In other words, the research aimed to present the first teaching contents and topics of physical education within combat training of the Yugoslav Army from 1945 to 1950, in order to enable their potential application in trainings today and direct them towards achieving the optimal physical abilities required when performing complex military tasks. A historical research method has been used in the paper. The directions of establishing and implementing the first forms of physical education in this period have been determined by the critical analysis of available archival military material, primarily funds from the Federal Secretariat for National Defence (FSND) and Yugoslav Army during the aforementioned period. The results of the research have shown that these existing forms of physical education in the Yugoslav Army made a significant contribution to the combat training process in terms of developing general physical skills of soldiers. Additionally, ideological significance was observed, since physical education was a mechanism unity in the formation of socialist society through mass, diversity and practicality. Physical education was an integral part of the physical education movement in the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia. By applying the existing forms of physical education through teaching activities within the military combat training, the Yugoslav Army became a driving and important factor in the rapid and mass development of this movement throughout the country. More research on potential barriers to youth physical activity participation is required to raise awareness of young people's physical activity. Based on that, the main objective of this study was to analyze the engagement of senior elementary school students in physical activities, depending on gender. In addition, factors that could be potential barriers to preventing students from participating in physical activities will be analyzed. It is assumed that there are significant differences between boys and girls aged 13 and 14 in terms of their participation in physical activities. The sample consisted of a total of 721 subjects with an average age of 14.3 ± 0.7, of which 372 were boys and 349 were girls. For the purposes of this research, a survey questionnaire (Mitić et al., 2010) was used, which contains a total of 17 questions, divided into three groups. For statistical processing, non-parametric tests, the Chi-square test (2), were used to examine the significance of the difference. The Chi-square test (2) was used to evaluate the match between the observed and theoretical frequencies in each group and measure the significance of the difference between them. The Chi-square test of independence was used to compare the differences between the male and female groups. The results of the 2 test of independence showed that there is a statistically significant difference between boys and girls in the frequency of exercise (p≤0.01). The results of the 2 test showed that there are no statistically significant differences between the groups of boys and girls in the choice of place and method of exercise (Sig. > .05). The results showed that both boys and girls have barriers to practicing physical activities, but that they do not differ significantly. This study showed that there are significant differences between boys and girls regarding the frequency of participation in physical activities. Recently, research activities in this area have increased significantly. However, there is not enough good quality research on evaluations and effectiveness of interventions, strategies for overcoming barriers to participation in physical activities, as well as on promoting physical activity for socially disadvantaged groups of children.","PeriodicalId":325555,"journal":{"name":"Physical Education and Sport Through the Centuries","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135612304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They above all contributed to forming and strengthening the Slovene national consciousness through gymnastics, but more broadly through activities related to the new idea of free time among the bourgeoisie and to the associational and national political context. But they also demonstrated the fragility of the Slovene national consciousness. Despite the choice to take inspiration from the Slavic Gymnastic Association Sokol from Prague, a predominant role was still played by German language, culture and gymnastic associations. At the same time, the most relevant among these Slovene associations (the Ljubljana Sokol) sought to contribute to the development of Slavic solidarity, at first seeking a contact to the Sokol in Prague, then with the major Croatian Sokol. Such Sokol associations were also the first ones to spread gymnastics and hiking among Slovenes, albeit at an embryonic level. They spread much less than among the Czechs and only in the province of Carniola, because of the smallness of the Slovenian bourgeoisie and upper class, but also because of the political interests of their inspirers, protectors and presidents. These interests, together with the differences in political strategies, led to an end in the contact between the Sokol of Ljubljana and the one in Prague.","PeriodicalId":325555,"journal":{"name":"Physical Education and Sport Through the Centuries","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135612322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
