The paper emphasizes the addition of digital ink, which is of increasing importance for public (schools, universities) and corporate (trainings, Webinars) teaching. We present a concept for flexibly developing custom ink-aware systems that support augmented presentations for a broad range of use cases and cover not only the core event but also pre- and post-event phases, addressing the needs of both lecturers and students. Our concept for ink-aware multimedia architectures is based on three main system components, which are in turn assisted by small signal processing units. The concept fosters development of clearly and consistently designed ink-aware applications. The paper emphasizes examples where digital ink is visualized atop image-based slides, but potential applications comprise a much broader range of underpinning application. To illustrate our concept and implementation, we present sample customizations i.e. realizations of all relevant component categories. We discuss evaluation results obtained from both interviews with lecturers as well as our experience with using and supporting customizations made by ourselves.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130963810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are few formal models for verification and analysis of sensor networks in the literature. In this paper, we present a graphical simulation system for modeling and analysis of sensor networks. A formal model of sensor networks is proposed based on Space Time Petri Net (STPN). STPN is a formal model language which is extended from time Petri Nets (TPN) and colored Petri nets (CPN). The idea is to add space information to the places of the original TPN to model the space information in sensor networks, such as the locations of sensor nodes. And based on this modeling idea, a set of new concepts are proposed, such as space place, broadcast transition, and dynamic topology. The STPN not only can model the various characteristics of sensor networks, such as temporal and spatial information, but also can simulate the different behavior of sensor networks. A prototype system has been implemented to model and analyze the behavior of sensor networks systems.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131098422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different to the other BMAs, this algorithm uses an asymmetrical search pattern and a predicted vector at the first search step, and dynamically adjusts the size of search pattern to minimize the number of search points. We have already applied AAPS to the process of motion estimation in the MPEG-4 encoding platform, and compared this algorithm with the other BMAs. The experimental result shows that AAPS achieves a 56-65% and 20% improvement in search speed respectively compared to the diamond search algorithm and the adaptive rood pattern search algorithm, and simultaneously maintains a high PSNR.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"565 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134312823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there will be different domains and IMSs managed by different ISPs (Internet service providers) in the Internet. Each ISP has an SLA (service level agreement) established between its users, which defines what kind of resources and prices was agreed to be offered to each user. However there is no SLA between a visited domain and a mobile user. This paper analyses how to extend the QoS capabilities of the IMS offered to a mobile terminal when it roams among different domains. We propose a framework that integrates QoS and mobility management. This integration envisages the improvement of the overall end-to-end performance and the reduction of management entities in the network. The architecture presents the domain policy manager (DPM) as the decision-making and controller of a domain. The proposed architecture uses policies with inter-domain negotiation. An application scenario to show the framework functionality is described as well as the current status of the implementation.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133567300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method can be used in automatic music transcription systems and music information retrieval systems to reduce a performance of a music piece to the printed or digital score. The system takes only the onset data of performed music from either MIDI or audio, and determine the best maximal grid level onto which to fit the note onsets. This maximal grid level, or tatum, is allowed to vary from section to section in a piece. We obtain the optimal segmentation of the piece using dynamic programming. We present results from an audio based performance of Milhaud's Botafogo, as well as several MIDI performances of the Rondo-Allegro from Beethoven's Pathetique. The results show a reduction of error compared to quantization based only on one global metric level, and promises to create rhythm transcriptions that are parsimonious and readable.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134379575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It claims high resource utilization and better streaming performance. In this paper, we define mesh-cast concept to model \"many-to-many\" streaming in P2P networks. The main origin of network congestion in mesh-cast is the articulation point/edge in inferred network topology. We resolve the congestion using the peripheral articulation node. We provide two possible approaches, optimistic and pessimistic, to solve network congestion in mesh-cast, both of which use a novel P2P structure, G-Super-Peer backbone.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122308202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, support for streaming the XML metadata in conjunction with the media data is highly desirable. Such support is provided, for instance, by MPEG's binary format for metadata (BiM) encoding approach, which facilitates fragmenting, delivering, and accessing the metadata in so-called access units (AUs). In this paper, we present a quantitative evaluation of existing XML metadata compression and encoding techniques, reaching from widely used state-of-the-art data compression algorithms to sophisticated XML-aware encoding schemes. The comparison is based on compressing MPEG-21 generic bitstream syntax descriptions (gBSDs) which can grow to non-negligible sizes. The main conclusion from this investigation is that in terms of pure compression efficiency on XML files, the BiM approach (exemplified by the MPEG reference software as well as a commercial version thereof) is comparable - in terms of performance - with traditional data or specific XML compression tools. However, when XML metadata have to be fragmented, compressed, and streamed in such fragments, the results indicate that the BiM approach is superior to the other schemes.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125061927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile multimedia applications are fostered by the improvement of hardware technology and the emergence of new devices with sufficient networking and processing capabilities. However, these extending possibilities also increase the complexity of software development due to the distributed mobile environment. This paper presents a framework enabling rapid development and easy deployment of scalable, context-aware multimedia applications for mobile environments. Subsequently, the development of \"Cron\", a pervasive game operating in the city area of Berlin, Germany, is introduced to prove the framework concept and demonstrate its features as well as potential for further research.","PeriodicalId":322363,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'05)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129654792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Computation performance was first augmented, followed by the improvement of communication capacity. It's time to provide computer capabilities to help people cultivate their intellectual faculties. Media research has been carried out for years. Researchers focused on utilizing media. What we should do now is to carefully analyze media itself, resulting in development of well-formed media for further success in media research. We are going to investigate how media convey the information and affect people $the way of their thinking. As a first step towards this goal, we propose in this paper the analysis and generation of picture books.
