Sixty class II restorations were placed in 60 patients, 20-50 years old. The patients were divided into three groups according to the applied restoration technique. In all cavities, etching (N Etch, Ivoclar Vivadent) was applied for 15 seconds and then rinsed. After that bonding was applied and cured for 20 seconds (N Bond, Ivoclar Vivadent). In group 1, Tetric Evo Ceram (Ivoclar Vivadent) was placed in 2 mm increments. In group 2, Tertic N Ceram Bulk Fill (Ivoclar Vivadent) was placed in single increment. In group 3, SonicFill™ (Kerr, Kavo) was placed in single increment by sonic vibration. The restorations were evaluated using modified USPHS criteria at baseline and then after 3, 6, 9 and12 months. After 12 months, 58 class II restorations were evaluated. Two cases were dropped out. All the restorations in the three groups showed acceptable clinical performance according to the modified USPHS criteria. The differences between the techniques weren’t statistically significant. Overall success was 91.3%. Five restorations failed, one in the first group and four in the second group. Both bulk fill techniques performed well over the 12 months observation period. The bulk fill composite resin performed equally to the conventionally layered resin composite during the 12 months of the present clinical study. Resume Le but de la presente etude etait de comparer la performance clinique des restaurations classe II en resine composite en utilisant deux techniques differentes de remplissage en vrac selon les criteres du « United States Public Health Servicee (USPHS) » sur une duree de suivi de 12 mois. Soixante restaurations ont ete placees chez 60 patients âges de 20 a 50 ans. Les patients ont ete repartis en trois groupes selon la technique de restauration appliquee. Pour toutes les cavites, un traitement a l’acide (N Etch, Ivoclar Vivadent) a ete realise pendant 15 secondes, suivi d’un rincage. Puis le «bonding» a ete applique et polymerise pendant 20 secondes (N Bond, Ivoclar Vivadent). Dans le groupe 1, Tetric Evo Ceram (Ivoclar Vivadent) a ete place par couches de 2 mm. Dans le groupe 2, Tertic N Ceram Bulk Fill (Ivoclar Vivadent) a ete place en une seule couche. Dans le groupe 3, SonicFill™ (Kerr, Kavo) a ete place en couche unique par vibration sonique. Les restaurations ont ete evaluees en se basant sur les criteres modifies du service de sante publique aux Etats-Unis au moment de la restauration, puis a 3, 6, 9 et 12 mois. Apres 12 mois, 58 restaurations de classe II ont ete evaluees. Deux cas ont ete elimines. Toutes les restaurations dans les trois groupes ont demontre une performance clinique acceptable selon les criteres USPHS modifies. Many methods were used to potentiate sodium hypochlorite, one of which is heating of the irrigant. Negative pressure irrigation is a new method of irrigation that was introduced to deliver the solution through the whole root canal length. Sixty single rooted teeth were used in this study. A total of 360 simulated lateral canals were created, 6 in each tooth, with 2 lateral canals at 2, 4.5 and 6 mm of working length. To resemble the clinical situation, a closed system was created by coating each root with soft modeling wax. Roots were then randomly assigned to 3 experimental groups: group 1 (n = 20): apical negative pressure irrigation (ANP); group 2 (n = 20): apical negative pressure irrigation with heated irrigant (ANP + Heat); and control group 3 (n = 18): positive pressure irrigation. The samples were evaluated by direct observation of the images recorded by a photography machine. The results showed that ANP and ANP + Heat were more effective than needle irrigation at lateral canal penetration, but there was no significant difference between the groups 1 and 2. Apical negative pressure irrigation is more effective than needle irrigation in penetrating into lateral canals. Heated irrigant did not penetrate better into these canals. Resume Le role de l’irrigation dans le traitement du canal radiculaire est crucial; l’hypochlorite de sodium est la solution d’irrigation la plus utilisee. De nombreux procedes ont ete utilises pour potentialiser l’action de l’hypochlorite de sodium, dont l’echauffement de l’irrigant. L’irrigation negative sous pression est une nouvelle methode d’irrigation qui a ete introduite pour delivrer la solution sur toute la longueur du canal radiculaire. Soixante dents monoradiculees ont ete utilisees dans cette etude. Un total de 360 canaux lateraux ont ete crees, 6 dans chaque dent, avec 2 canaux lateraux a 2, 4,5 et 6 mm de longueur de travail. Pour simuler les memes conditions cliniques, un systeme ferme a ete cree par le revetement de chaque racine avec de la cire a modeler. Les racines ont ensuite ete reparties au hasard a 3 groupes experimentaux: groupe 1 (n = 20): irrigation apicale sous pression negative (ANP); groupe 2 (n = 20): irrigation apicale sous pression negative avec irrigant chauffe (ANP + chaleur); et le groupe temoin 3 (n = 18): irrigation sous pression positive. Les echantillons ont ete evalues par observation directe des photos enregistrees par un appareil de photographie. Les resultats ont montre que l’ANP et l’ANP + chaleur etaient plus efficaces que l’aiguille d’irrigation a la penetration du canal lateral, mais il n’y avait pas de difference significative entre les groupes 1 et 2. L’irrigation apicale sous pression negative e s t plus efficace que l’irrigation sous pression positive. L’irrigant chauffe ne penetrait pas mieux dans les canaux.","PeriodicalId":322244,"journal":{"name":"International Arab Journal of Dentistry","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129998855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is little contemporary literature outlining the knowledge, views and attitudes of dental students regarding the use of the internet in dentistry especially in our country, India. Hence, it was decided to conduct a pilot questionnaire study regarding the internet and its use in dentistry among dental undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students. A prospective, cross-sectional, self-designed questionnaire with questions on various aspects of usage of the internet by the dental students was circulated among the UG and PG students at two dental institutes of Belgaum, Karnataka, India: KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences (KLE VKIDS) and Maratha Mandal’s NGH Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre (MMDC). Completed questionnaires were received from 284 out of 335 UG students and 112 out of 196 PG students, with a response rate of 84.8% and 57.14%, respectively. 82.04% of UG and 87.5% of PG students had personal laptops with access to the internet, indicating easy accessibility to technology. E-mail/surfing was the most common purpose of the internet usage among all the students. tient relationship. Our study highlights that the internet technology is regularly used for entertainment than for academic purposes. Hence each graduating dentist should not only have a thorough knowledge of the internet but should also be trained for literature search and this can only be accomplished by proper and compulsory trai- ning of these students for various applications of the internet in dentistry as practicing evidence-based health care might come in huge way tomorrow.
