ATM switch constitutes a crucial component of broadband networks. The ATM switching differs considerably from the conventional switching techniques due to various reasons. The high-speed interface to the switch, transport of wide variety of traffic with different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in a seamless manner, and potential statistical multiplexing gain from the ATM cell stream, impose some constraints in the design of the ATM switching systems. In this paper, we discuss various components of ATM switching system from the view of support of B-ISDN Protocol Reference Model (PRM). The focus is on the various issues in the context of design of control module and management module of the switching system which supports functionality of control plane and management plane of B-ISDN Protocol Reference Model, respectively.","PeriodicalId":321968,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 39th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123073306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our Fuzzy Block Replacement Algorithm (fuzzy block-RA) utilizes nine fuzzy rules to pick out the block to be evicted when an I/O reference causes a miss on a filled up disk cache. The decision making process is based on the age of a block and the frequency at which references are made to it. Optimization of the knowledge base to specific applications is easily possible by modifying the inference rules or tuning of the membership functions. The simulations performed using our algorithm shows that the miss rate improves with a fuzzy block-RA when compared with standard algorithms. The use of disk traces gathered from a commercial disk subsystem in the simulation ensures the practical validity of the results.","PeriodicalId":321968,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 39th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems","volume":"285 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120932645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) inside this filter is a low-voltage rail-to-rail voltage-to-current converter (V-I converter). In this V-I converter, an N-type V-I converter cell is connected in parallel with its counterpart, a P-type V-I converter cell, to achieve common-mode rail-to-rail operation. Maximum-current selecting circuits are utilized to generate constant-gm output currents for this OTA. This 5th-order elliptic low-pass GM-C filter operates at a supply voltage of 3 V and has a cutoff frequency of 500 kHz.","PeriodicalId":321968,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 39th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125161822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is related to various optical flow techniques, except that it is not dependent on spatial and temporal gradients which are notoriously difficult to estimate from real image sequences. The objective function to be minimized contains a block matching likelihood term and an optical flow prior term, making the technique a hybrid of two popular motion estimation schemes. Simulations show that the proposed technique results in more accurate motion vector fields than those obtained through conventional block matching and Horn-Schunck optical flow estimation.","PeriodicalId":321968,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 39th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115571626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
