Device/performance trade-offs in optical networks

Abstract

The author focuses on the benefits of using different classes of optical and electro-optic devices for circuit switched all-optical WDM networks. Two scenarios are considered: passive LANs or MANs which contain only passive optical devices and configurable WANs which contain many all-optical switching nodes connected in a mesh topology.
