The error function used here is the sum of the weighted log magnitude-squared error and phase-squared error, and so it is possible to control log magnitude and phase response directly. The gradient vector of the proposed error function is easily calculated as the closed form solution because of its nature, in which the real and imaginary part of the logarithm of a complex transfer function corresponds to the log magnitude and phase response, respectively. This algorithm is simple and converges quickly. The temperature dependence of V/sub BE/(T) is linearized using, as the bias current, a sum of two currents one of which is proportional to the third degree, and another to the fourth degree of absolute temperature. Two versions of the circuit are given, one is designed for 5 V, and another for 3 V supply voltage. Theoretical calculations show that the thermal instability of the output reference voltage can be reduced down to 0.2 ppm//spl deg/C. By biasing in the subthreshold regime, the transistors are operated with maximum normalized transconductance, g/sub m//I. The rapid saturation of devices operated in subthreshold allows for radical scaling of supply voltages to only 300 mV. Application of a back-bias further increases the g/sub m//I of the transistors, and hence the gain of the gates. The back bias also assists in the reduction of stray junction and gate-bulk capacitance. Operating with small voltage swings, delays of a few hundred nanoseconds can be achieved with bias currents of 50 nA. This results in operational speeds of a few megahertz at greatly reduced power consumption compared to standard CMOS digital logic. This paper presents a fast radix-4 SRT division architecture. Instead of finding the correct quotient digit, an estimated quotient digit is first speculated. The speculated quotient digit is used to simultaneously compute the two possible partial remainders for the next step while the quotient digit is being corrected. Thus, the two-step process does not influence the overall speed. Since the decision making circuits can be implemented with simple gate structures, the proposed divider offers fast speed operation. The traditional multicasting and broadcasting techniques do not extend well to wormhole networks and especially to a shared memory multiprocessor environment where the messages are short and need a very low communication overhead. We propose an efficient hardware algorithm for multicasting and broadcasting in a hypercube based shared memory multiprocessor. The method uses logically embedded hierarchical rings for multicasting. Simulation as well as analytical results are shown. The proposed technique can be extended to any network in which rings can be embedded. The feasibility of the paradigm is demonstrated by the first genetic router for Manhattan model channels which contain cyclic vertical constraints. The router has been implemented as a self contained genetic algorithm system. It creates an initial population without violations of constraints using the results of a new theory of locally optimal breaking of cyclic vertical constraints. The population size is problem instance dependent to provide for the preservation of the structural diversity which is built into the initial population. A new encoding scheme and novel crossover and mutation operators are introduced.
