In this paper, a novel design of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) biosensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is introduced and numerically analyzed for cancer cell detection. Full vectorial finite element method (FVFEM) is used throughout the numerical analysis of the reported structure. The reported PCF has a V-shaped surface that is coated by ZrN as a plasmonic material. A coupling occurs between the core guided mode and surface plasmon mode which depends on the studied analyte. The geometrical parameters are optimized to achieve high sensor sensitivity. The proposed biosensor achieves high optical sensitivity of 5600 nm/RIU, 5700 nm/RIU for the x- and y-polarized modes, respectively. The reported optical sensor can pave the road for efficient and simple technique for cancer detection instead of surgical and chemical techniques.","PeriodicalId":321952,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (NUSOD)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125718184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We derive first-order equations for the electric and magnetic vector potentials and the electric scalar potential which, upon the adoption of the Coulomb gauge, decouple into solenoidal and irrotational equation sets and are sourced by the solenoidal and irrotational parts of the current density, respectively. The solenoidal electric and magnetic vector potentials obey equations analogous to the normal curl equations for the electric and magnetic fields, a fact we exploit to develop an effective absorbing boundary layer used to simulate unbounded regions in a way identical to standard FDTD. We demonstrate coupling to a simple quantum transport technique known as the Usuki transfer matrix technique.","PeriodicalId":321952,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (NUSOD)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120991937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dependency on conventional energy resources including fossil fuel, oil, gas, coal etc. are not in favor of having sustainable global earth. For this reason, renewable or clean energy is one only option while acquiring energy from the abundant sunlight is the best and cost-effective choice. Photovoltaic (PV) panels are widely employed as clean and environmentally acceptable energy sources. However, due to restrictions in PV cells, the sun’s full energy cannot be turned into electricity. In this paper, we discuss how to improve the conversion efficiency of GaAs solar cells by optimizing the design and performance of nanostructured gratings. We design, simulate, and analyze the performance of three alternative arrangements of periodic nanostructures with varied pitches and heights using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) approach. Different geometries of nanostructures behave differently towards impinging the light, as the simulation results.","PeriodicalId":321952,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (NUSOD)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121933190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
