In these converters, a pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is widely used. On the other hand, to improve power factor in utility AC side of converter a variety of power factor correction (PFC) converters are effectively introduced. For these converters, hysteresis current control method is developed and applying. Usually, this control scheme uses reference sinusoidal wave and upper limit signal which is determined by added constant value to reference signal, as well as lower limit signal which is determined by subtracted constant value from the reference signal. Using these signals, hysteresis current control method for PFC converter regulates its input current within the range that is determined by the upper and lower limit. In this paper the authors propose a simple configuration hysteresis controlled PFC converter which can effectively reduce current ratings of switching power device. The proposed PFC converter controls input line current keeps within the constant upper limit, specified by the switching power semiconductor device rating, as well as lower limit determined by reference sinusoidal wave. Zacharov","doi":"10.1109/PCC.2002.998169","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PCC.2002.998169","url":null,"abstract":"The three optimized and two carrier-based PWM strategies of the overmodulation region of inverter-fed AC drives are suggested and investigated from the point of view of motor harmonic losses, torque ripples and voltage gain of the control system. The 1/sup st/ optimized solution produces the lowest value of motor harmonic losses if the skin effect in the rotor bar is not significant while the 2/sup nd/ one gives the lowest value of these losses for the strong skin effect. It is shown that the harmonic losses of the optimized and the commonly used carrier based three-phase and two-phase overmodulation strategies ensure acceptable values of harmonic losses even if the skin effect is taken into account but only up to 96% of the maximal possible voltage region. In this case for the presently used switching frequencies the motor harmonic losses rarely exceed the maximal losses of the normal voltage region. The near constant voltage gain can be ensured for the overmodulation region too. The purposes of the proposed control strategy are to correct voltage imbalance of the DC link capacitors, to keep the input power factor at near unity, and to achieve adjustable-speed drive. The five-level rectifier is controlled by the instantaneous-value-compared current control method using multi-band hysteresis comparators. On the other hand, the five-level inverter is controlled by the space vector pulse-width modulation method. The ignitor employs two stages of step-up circuits with two small sized transformers. To achieve a high power factor, a high-frequency DC-link resonant inverter with a unified resonant energy-tank followed by a rectifier is used as the DC power supply. In order to implement the equivalent inertia of the entire elevator system, the conventional simulators have generally utilized mechanical inertia (flywheel) with large radius, which makes the entire system large and heavy. In addition, the mechanical inertia should be replaced each time in order to test another elevator system. In this paper, the dynamic load simulation methods using electrical inertia are presented so that the volume and weight of the simulator system are greatly reduced and the adjustment of inertia value can be achieved easily by software. In the simulation techniques, a time domain model is proposed based on Foster's reactance from the network synthesis theory so that the frequency dependent impedance of the motor can be obtained. The AC resistance of the winding is modelled to achieve the skin effect at high frequencies. Frequency responses of the impedance of the motor winding are shown.
