To ensure efficient and fair WPT, we maximize the minimum of the energy harvested by all ERs during a given charging period, by optimizing the UAV's trajectory subject to its maximum speed constraints. Such a min-energy maximization problem, however, is non-convex, and thus is challenging to be directly solved. To tackle this problem, we first consider an ideal case by ignoring the UAV's maximum speed constraint, and show that the relaxed problem can be optimally solved via the Lagrange dual method. The obtained trajectory solution implies that the UAV should hover over a set of fixed locations with optimal allocation of the hovering time among them. Then, for the general case with the UAV's maximum speed constraint considered, we propose a new successive hover-and-fly trajectory motivated by the optimal trajectory in the ideal case, and obtain efficient trajectory designs by applying the successive convex programing (SCP) optimization technique. Numerical results show that our proposed trajectory designs significantly improve the min-energy transferred to all ERs, as compared to other benchmark schemes.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"267 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122147150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an individual move from their working life to a retirement life, multiple socio-economic issues can occur as their social life has also significantly changed. This shift often affects an individual's mental health and well-being. As a result, the aging population requires a solution that does reduce not only its impact on the government but also harvests its contribution to the society. Existing solutions are based on utilizing online platforms such as social network or service network as a medium to reduce social isolation and improve the mental health of elderly people. However, these solutions fail on two accounts: 1) they fail to see older people as active contributors and 2) older people do not see the needs or benefits of using them. This paper proposes a solution that addresses those two issues by engaging people actively and collaboratively as contributors of services and/or receivers of social benefits through an assistive platform that integrates a service network with a social network. This model combines the advantages of both platforms, offers many opportunities for seniors to not only utilize their skills and knowledge to exchange benefits with other users but also expand their social life. The proposed model can be used as a mean to engage older adults to the community, making them become more active, improve their mental well-being and subsequently reduce the cost of health services to the society.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124792130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we seek insight into the impact of the choice of the multiple access scheme that is employed when each of two users has a divisible task that they wish to complete with partial assistance from a computing resource at the access point. In particular, we obtain quasi-closed-form solutions for the partitioning of the problem, the transmission powers and the transmission rates that minimize the sum of the transmission energy and the local computation energy for each user, subject to latency, transmission power and achievable rate constraints. We consider both the case in which the multiple access scheme is unrestricted, and the case of time division multiple access. Our numerical results demonstrate that exploiting the full capabilities of the multiple access channel enables a substantial reduction in the energy expended by the users, especially when the users have significantly different channel gains.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128852545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In actual wireless environments, however, route construction with this method is not always successful, nor is the established route stable. This paper analyses two issues that prevent stable route establishment. They are the packet collision of RREQ/RREP and the decrease of channel correlation between RREQ/RREP. In order to overcome these problems, an improved reactive routing scheme is proposed that employs received threshold and reply timing control. The route construction performance for the proposed scheme is evaluated by network simulation. The simulated results show that the proposed scheme can improve route construction probability under fading environment with a small increase of route construction delay.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129692143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the physical propagation delay of electromagnetic wave across the array aperture cannot be ignored, which will cause spatial-wideband effect and make the system design much different from the conventional one that only considers the frequency-wideband effect. Taking mmWave-band communications as an example, we demonstrate the spatial- and frequency-wideband effects, called the dual-wideband effects, in massive MIMO systems. We first discuss a new dual-wideband channel model. By exploiting the channel sparsity in the angle and the delay domains, we then develop a simple yet effective channel estimation algorithm. Thanks to the angular-delay reciprocity, the proposed channel estimation strategy is suitable for both TDD and FDD communication systems. The subsequent numerical results clarify that the proposed transmission design can well address the dual-wideband effects and significantly outperform the existing designs that only consider the frequency-wideband effect.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126271270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The drawback to this transmission scheme is its high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). A high PAPR results from the transmission power variation among transmission antennas due to BF in addition to the multicarrier-based OFDM signaling. This paper investigates the performance of our previously reported adaptive PAPR reduction method using the null space in a MIMO channel in eigenmode massive MIMO-OFDM signals. The adaptive PAPR reduction method mitigates the degradation in data throughput due to the interference from the PAPR reduction signal generated by the clipping and filtering (CF) algorithm by restricting the transmission of the PAPR reduction signal to only the null space of the MIMO channel. In a massive MIMO scenario, since the number of spatial streams is generally much less than that of the transmitter antennas, the effect of the adaptive PAPR reduction method is expected to be enhanced due to the increase in the dimensions of the null space in the MIMO channel. Computer simulation results show that the adaptive PAPR reduction method is effective especially when (i) the number of transmitter antennas is large, (ii) the required PAPR is low, and (iii) the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is high.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122591203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In existing studies, the plasma sheath channel characteristics are analyzed based on computer simulations, lack of real-world experimental verification. Thereby, these studies failed to fully demonstrate the high-dynamics of the plasma sheath channel. In this paper, an experimental communication system based on the shock tube is proposed to investigate the plasma sheath channel. Then, the characteristics of the plasma sheath channel are analyzed based on the experimental results. In particular, the high-dynamic and fast time-varying channel characteristics are verified by analyzing the signal amplitude, signal phase shift and the coherence time.
