When designing the puncturing patterns, the minimum Hamming distance property and cross-correlation property of the punctured Hadamard codes are considered. The theoretical upper bound of the minimum Hamming distance is derived for the punctured Hadamard codes and an algorithm is subsequently proposed for searching punctured codes with the minimum distance approaching the bound. Another approach to design the punctured codes is to minimize the cross-correlations between punctured codewords. A new metric is defined to measure the overall severity of the cross-correlation based on which punctured codes with the “lowest” cross-correlations are found. Simulation results show that both techniques are effective in searching for good punctured Hadamard codes. As expected, moreover, the punctured codes found by minimizing the cross-correlation outperform those optimized by maximizing minimum Hamming distance when a-posteriori-probability decoding is used.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128387414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, TDM-PON (Time Division Multiplexing PON) has been deployed widely. However, TDM-PON faces difficulty to control upstream traffic with optical level multiplexing in case of transmission rate grager than 10 Gbps because of performance limitation of the optical burst multiplexing. In order to release the limitation, we have proposed SDM-PON (Subcarrier Digital Modulation Passive Optical Network) that does not require the optical burst multiplexing. In this paper, we improve SDM-PON mechanisms in order to increase the number of connectable ONUs (Optical Network Units) up to 32 in one OLT with realizing low power consumption. We evauate transmission performance with simulations to confirm 32 ONUs enable to communicate simultaneously in realistic conditions.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125398922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For reliably delivering data to a mobile sink, many multipath and mobility supporting protocols were proposed. However, since they do not consider link qualities and energy state information to construct multipaths, they require frequent reconstructions of the multipaths due to link or node failures from poor links or energy depletions. Moreover, since they use continuous footprint-chaining or periodic global path reconstructions to support sink mobility, they cannot perfectly provide multipaths from a source to the mobile sink or can cause much energy consumption of sensor nodes to reconstruct multipaths globally. Thus, we propose a multipath routing protocol based on link quality and energy state information for mobile sinks in WSNs. The proposed protocol constructs multipaths consisting of sensor nodes with good link qualities and high energy states to reduce multipath reconstructions. The proposed protocol also uses a reverse path reconstruction and local modification scheme based on our analytical model to reconstruct multipaths energy-efficiently due to movements of a sink. Simulation results conducted in various environments show that the proposed protocol has better performance than the existing protocol.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116828030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose using Software Defined Networking (SDN) controllers to support novel Static Headroom (SH) and Dynamic Headroom (DH) services to allow customers to fill this headroom with Elephant Flows (EFs) without adversely affecting the provider's ability to meet its Best-Effort (BE) service-level agreements, and ability to absorb extra traffic load created during failure recovery periods. Our solution calls for the use of lower-priority service for EFs. We use simulations to compare SH service with BE service, and DH service with SH service. When EFs are sent on BE service, they could cause packet losses in general-purpose IP traffic, especially when the burstiness of the latter is high, while with SH service, this packet loss rate is reduced to 0. While DH service requires the added complexity of a provider SDN controller, the ability to dynamically route EFs on lower-utilized links results in higher average EF throughput. The higher the non-uniformity (from a node-pair perspective) in network traffic, the greater the DH gain factor.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121795113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this case, dynamic time-domain power allocation and antenna selection could be jointly optimized to improve the system energy efficiency. This paper considers this problem in such a simple way where dynamic switching between multiple-input-multiple-output and single-input-multiple-output is allowed and exclusively utilized, while the sparse scattering terrains and delay-sensitive traffic flows are taken into account. The original optimization problem is a typical mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. Instead of conventional iteration based methods, such as the extended cutting plane method, we propose a low-complexity and direct solution by exploiting the physical nature of original problem, which can be utilized in real time. Theoretical results show that our proposed method can be viewed as the generalization of channel-inversion associated with transmit antenna selection. Also, compared with methods without dynamic antenna selection, our method significantly decreases the average transmit power.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128115000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since Wi-Fi with 802.11 n/ac is a typical radio access technology in the unlicensed spectrum, we consider a scenario that the LAA small-cell base stations (SCBSs) are deployed together with Wi-Fi access points. We propose three different listen-before-talk (LBT) schemes according to the channel sensing mechanisms for LAA SCBC, and establish Markov chain models for each scheme under non-saturated traffic condition. Using these analytical models, the energy-efficiencies of LAA SCBSs that perform the different LBT schemes are investigated. We also propose the algorithm to obtain the optimal contention window size of LAA SCBSs by which total energy-efficiency of networks is maximized while satisfying the required energy-efficiency of both LAA and Wi-Fi networks. Numerical results show that the LBT scheme which has an efficient channel sensing mechanism outperforms the other LBT schemes for the energy-efficiency perspective.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115820302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With a lot of users awaiting service, the network tends to be congested and the quality of service (QoS) degrades remarkably. This promotes the research on user admission control; i.e., to guarantee QoS, the network serves only a subset of users and rejects the rest. In this paper, we consider a max-min fairness (MMF) problem based on joint admission control and beamforming. In particular, by jointly optimizing the admissible users and the transmit beamformers, we maximize the minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) of admissible users, such that high QoS and fairness can be guaranteed for them. This problem is essentially NP-hard, and hence we develop a low-complexity iterative deflation algorithm to obtain some efficient approximate solution. In each iteration, we improve the users' SINRs and drop the user with the lowest SINR-to-power ratio, until the given user number is achieved. To facilitate the algorithm implementation, especially in large-scale networks, we further employ the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to perform per-user optimization. Finally, an efficient distributed algorithm is developed, with each step being solved in closed form.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127700675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, employing TDD will lead to a long transmission latency due to the uplink/downlink transmission constraints. In this paper, we study the frame structure design for low latency communications in 5G TDD systems. We propose a frame structure design method that implements a shorter transmission time interval (TTI) and more switching points to allow lower latency in TDD systems. Analysis and evaluation results show that a shorter TTI and more switching points are not only beneficial in reducing user plane latency but also yield better performance in terms of user perceived throughput and user packet delay compared with current frame structure in LTE.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129699859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For D2D out-of-network coverage (ONC) scenario, synchronization among multiple user equipment (UE) is a very important issue due to the fact that synchronization method does not have a common time/frequency standard, so synchronization in self-organized D2D network is adjusting their own time/frequency offset until a group consensus is reached. 3GPP agreed a synchronization method based on multi-hop relays. In this method, UE uses reference signal received power (RSRP) of D2D synchronization signals (D2DSS) as the only criterion for selecting the reference signal and synchronizing with it. However, this method doesn't consider actual timing error of D2DSS, which are accumulated through the previous multi-hop links. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel synchronization method where UE selects a reference timing with the smallest RMS error. We examine the problem from system-level perspective, and verify that the proposed method can efficiently make more UE's RMS timing error meet tolerance of SC-FDMA symbols, which means a UE can successfully communicate with its neighbors directly.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133150922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal in implementing SWIM is to achieve seamless air traffic management (ATM) services worldwide through the efficient integration of the current ATM systems. In this paper, we consider the wireless media to access SWIM. In the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the aeronautical mobile airport communications system (AeroMACS) is standardized for the next generation airport surface communication system. It is effective to share various types of information among air traffic controllers, pilots, and airport operators, not only on airport surface, but also in taking off and landing by AeroMACS. However, AeroMACS is intended to be used at speeds of 120km/h or below. In this paper, we study the possibility of using AeroMACS while an aircraft is moving at over 120km/h, as would occur in takeoff and landing situations. We conducted flight tests using an AeroMACS standard-compliant prototype system and an experimental aircraft. In the experiments, we obtained a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) to investigate 5GHz ground-to-air propagation. The results revealed that an onboard antenna configuration involving vertical placement at the top and bottom of the aircraft body is effective in achieving multiple input multiple output (MIMO) operation. Additional throughputs measurements showed that it was possible for AeroMACS to access SWIM both in takeoff and landing situations at an aircraft speed of 200km/h.","PeriodicalId":320208,"journal":{"name":"2017 23rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121237148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
