Orthopedics and traumatology have demand for porous materials for reconstruction of osseous defects. The material most closely fitting the natural bone in its structure and biological properties is hydroxyapatite HA (Ca5(PO4)3OH) and triple-calcium phosphate (Ca3(PO4)2) traditionally used to produce calcium-phosphate ceramics. High-temperature reactions lead to obtaining coarse-crystalline material with minimum porosity. Preparation of calcium-phosphate materials with large specific surface of the material contributes to the active bone formation compared to the dense calcium-phosphate ceramics. It was determined that compacting pressure and the packing index depends on the dispersion of materials. When compaction pressure is increased the open porosity of the material decreases by 10-15%. When sintering dense ceramics in the temperature range of 1100-1300°C the strength of the material samples increases to 130-160 MPa and open porosity decreases to 8-10%; total is 25-40% It characterizes an intensive sintering process in this temperature range. Introducing a pore-forming agent and sintering at 1250-1350°C showed that the strength improves with the increase of sintering temperature, while the open porosity ranges from 20-40% and the pore size corresponds to the size of the particles of a pore-forming agent. The results of the work allowed establishing the regularity of the influence of the quantity of pore-forming additives, sintering temperature, and the packaging index on the process of adjusting the size and number of pores for obtaining HA ceramics.","PeriodicalId":319762,"journal":{"name":"2012 7th International Forum on Strategic Technology (IFOST)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131302626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The preparation process and characterizations of NiO coated aluminum borate whiskers were investigated. The results show that during the heating process of the xerogel coated aluminum borate whiskers, one endothermic peak appears at 100 °C and three exothermic peaks appear in the range of 150-350 °C according to the differential thermal analysis. And no weight loss occurs after 350 °C according to the thermogravimetry analysis. After the xerogel coated aluminum borate whiskers are calcined at 500 °C, the surface of each whisker is uniformly coated by a layer of NiO film and the NiO coated whiskers can be easily dispersed in water through an ultrasonic apparatus. Moreover, No phase transformation of NiO and interfacial reaction between NiO and aluminum borate whiskers occur when the xerogel coated aluminum borate whiskers are calcined in the range of 500 and 900 °C.","PeriodicalId":319762,"journal":{"name":"2012 7th International Forum on Strategic Technology (IFOST)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128876668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our previous works investigated the effects of minimal rare earth (RE) elements addition on the interfacial IMCs under different aging time. Experimental results showed that the appropriate RE content is 0.07wt% La in Sn-0.3Ag-0.7Cu (SAC0307). In this paper, the influences of reflow parameters and Ce addition on the IMCs of SAC0307-0.07La/Cu solder joints were studied. The morphologies of IMCs were characterized by metallographic microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Besides, the shear strength of the solder joints was evaluated by the shear tests. In comparison purpose, all the solder balls were prepared under the same conditions. The results showed that the thicknesses of the IMCs increased following the linear law and the shear strength varied under the parabolic law with the increase of reflow time. Meanwhile, the shear strength of the solder joints increased almost linearly with the increase of the cooling rate. The main failure mode was ductile fracture when the shear speed was 0.05mm/s.","PeriodicalId":319762,"journal":{"name":"2012 7th International Forum on Strategic Technology (IFOST)","volume":"270 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124370497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper will discuss the benefits of using advanced thermal management systems in hybrid electric drivetrain, and the different control strategies that can be used to enhance system performance. A detailed one dimensional (1D) simulation model for power split hybrid electric system was developed which consists of three cooling circuits. This model is characterized by a complete modularity and permits the simulation of any new design configuration to investigate the effect of advanced thermal management on system performance. Proportional Integration Derivative (PID) module was used to apply the control strategies. The system behavior has been optimized using Design of Experiment (DoE) method. The simulation results showed a superb fuel economy (4:11) % that solves the problems of high operating costs, also decreasing time of cold start by 50% and increasing the high temperature of the coolant up to 125°C. The motor and generator temperature controlled to the optimum temperature which operate them at the maximum efficiency. These results can be used to be the basis of the final system layout and thermal management strategy.","PeriodicalId":319762,"journal":{"name":"2012 7th International Forum on Strategic Technology (IFOST)","volume":"240 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132623028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
