The study extends the previous survey conducted in Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia with a Kazakhstan sample of 551 respondents. The research identified stronger gender stereotypes in Kazakhstan compared to Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The influence of the socialist period and retraditionalism on women and management in Central Asia (CA) and CEE is discussed.","PeriodicalId":319124,"journal":{"name":"Women in Management in Central and Eastern European Countries","volume":"463 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115294935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We discuss the postsocialist legacy and its im‐ pact on gender order in organizations. We find that the higher gender diversity of management boards enhances firm performance despite the fact that the numbers of female top managers do not reach the critical mass on the boards. By exploring the drivers of the placements in the management board, we also find that glass cliff is an existing phenomenon in the region.","PeriodicalId":319124,"journal":{"name":"Women in Management in Central and Eastern European Countries","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127745018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Investigated time experiences of lived leadership do not point to a transformative environment that invites pluralism. These narratives do not disembed ideological beliefs or decolonize gender roles. Instead they mark a discourse of flawless continuity and accommodation to greedy time scripts that label downtime as wasted time. The inductive thematic analysis extracted two rhetoric tropes (i.e. wholesomeness and warrior-superhero) and five themes: multitasking, resilience to time pressure, pragmatics of perfect timing, time use maximization and constant connectivity. Potential explanations and implications for the East European management con‐ text are discussed.","PeriodicalId":319124,"journal":{"name":"Women in Management in Central and Eastern European Countries","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123183520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It draws on three case studies of media firms founded in the early 2000 s and 2010 s in Kyrgyzstan by women. Kyrgyzstan is a curious context for management-related gender issues since women are highly literate and highly economically active. Yet, female media business leaders are still uncommon. The women that belong to the first generation of urban business owners seek legitimation. It is particularly acute for the businesswomen that are engaged in cultural production such as media since they are rare birds compared to their female counterparts doing trade and commerce. Kyrgyz female business owners engage in a sophisticated game of being a commercially successful manager, and at the same time, artful‐ ly downplaying one’s career achievements in front of the social circles. This paper explores women’s roles through their education, family and marital status, and class awareness.","PeriodicalId":319124,"journal":{"name":"Women in Management in Central and Eastern European Countries","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129540245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, they still face gender-specific challenges. Gender sensitive entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) can help boost women’s entrepreneurship. So far, however, research on EEs in transition economies remains underdeveloped. Against this background, we aim to map the EE in Geor‐ gia. Drawing on existing EE approaches, we will outline EE components from a gendered perspective for our further analysis. Afterwards, we will build on secondary data to highlight the central components and characteristics of the Georgian EE in more detail. By discussing our results in the broader context of women in management in transition economies, we aim to contribute to the current scientific debate.","PeriodicalId":319124,"journal":{"name":"Women in Management in Central and Eastern European Countries","volume":" 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120830469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this respect, this study hypothesises that companies with higher female representation in manage‐ ment and supervisory boards demonstrate higher level of risk management practices, as a re‐ sult of a greater degree of concern or caution expected from female board members. The em‐ pirical examination on a sample of Polish public companies has shown that there was a statis‐ tically significant relationship between female board representation and the extent of reported risk management practices. However, no support was found to confirm the relationship be‐ tween feminisation of a board and holdings of financial slack, as a buffer against negative risk outcomes.","PeriodicalId":319124,"journal":{"name":"Women in Management in Central and Eastern European Countries","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128678530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the influence of female municipal council members on child-friendly policy imple‐ mentation during the 2009 economic recession. We analyse the case of 224 municipalities in a post-socialist country. The longitudinal character of the study provides a broader understand‐ ing of women’s role in public management. The results show that the proportion of women in power increased, and this increase was associated with the rise of child-friendly politics. The gender effect on child-friendliness remained even after controlling for population size, the municipality’s fiscal resources, poverty, the proportion of children in population, and political parties represented in local municipal councils. However, the impact of demographic and fis‐ cal situation was stronger on the child-friendliness than the gender of council members.","PeriodicalId":319124,"journal":{"name":"Women in Management in Central and Eastern European Countries","volume":"441 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133589873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
