Kounis syndrome is underdiagnosed, as the inflammatory cells releases, in both allergic and non-allergic acute coronary syndrome, are the same. The syndrome is induced by various causes such as drugs, foods, environmental exposure, stents. There are three variants of Kounis syndrome: vasospastic allergic angina, allergic myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis. All patients with systemic allergic manifestations correlated with clinical, laboratory and electrocardiography findings of acute myocardial infarction must be investigated for Kounis syndrome. The therapeutic management of Kounis syndrome represents a challenge, as it is necessary to treat both the cardiac and allergic events. After the acute event, a complete cardiological follow-up is mandatory, skin tests, verification of allergies to food, insect stings, drugs and environment agents. The awareness of etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, signs and symptoms is important for its diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and prevention.","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82986606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this brief review is to offer the reader the theoretical background of the current status of immunomodulatory therapies used in the management of periodontitis using staphylococcal antigens. In response to the hypothesis that Staphylococcus aureus helps ameliorate periodontal disease, the National Development Institute for Microbiology and Immunology Cantacuzino, Romania, produced the “Staphylococcal D Vaccine”. The proponents of this product claim that Staphylococcal Vaccine is highly efficacious in the management of periodontitis particularly in patients with clinical signs of edema, papillary hypertrophy, bleeding on probing, and pockets > 7 - 8 mm in depth. Although the mechanism of action of staphylococcal antigen vaccines is elusive as yet, it appears that such vaccination leads to a dramatic reduction in periodontal inflammation, and periodontal pocket depth. However, more research is required to obtain conclusive data on the subject.","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"45 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82632607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Systemic sclerosis, also known as scleroderma (SD), is a rare disease. Scleroderma is an immune-mediated systemic autoimmune disease, of unknown etiology, with high morbidity and mortality. The link between the disease and the imbalance of the intestinal microbiota suggested that it would contribute to the development of SD, which is characterized by immune disorder, vasculopathy, organ fibrosis. Gastrointestinal dysfunction affects 90% of patients with SD and is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in these patients. Emerging evidence suggests that there are changes in the intestinal microbiota in SD, further laboratory and clinical studies are needed to establish the mechanism by which these changes perpetuate inflammation and fibrosis in SD. Although several studies have shown that the intestinal microbiota of patients with SD is abnormal compared to that of seemingly healthy people, it remains unclear whether changes in the intestinal microbiota are the result of the disease or the initial causes. Therapeutic studies are needed to investigate whether dietary interventions or fecal transplantation can restore intestinal microbial balance and improve health outcomes. Interventional studies aimed at addressing / correcting these disorders, either by dietary modification, pro / prebiotic supplementation or fecal transplantation, may lead to improved outcomes for patients with SD. It is necessary to further investigate the potential pathophysiological role of dysbiosis of the intestinal microbiota in triggering SD, we will discuss natural remedies for modulating the microbiota in SD.","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74910529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This new approach involves the restructuring of clinical workflow and new treatment procedures. Guidelineswere supplied by regulatory authorities with instructions and recommendations focusing on limiting the contact with patients in dental emergencies and implementing strict safety measures. During pandemic it was noticed an increase in the pathology of the oral cavity that requires treatment through oral surgery procedures and a greater openness of practitioners to the introduction of new techniques and technologies. In this context, there is an increasing trend in the use of teledentistry, digital techniques for planning minimal invasive surgical procedures in the proprosthetic and pro-implant stage, optical impression in implant-prosthetic therapy, and laser technologies that allow minimally invasive approach to oral surgery procedures in soft tissues and bone. The new therapeutic approaches have numerous benefits in terms of efficiency, ergonomics and patients’ comfort as well as in the prevention of the spread of Covid19 infection. \"","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75191067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emotions of stress (e.g., depression and anxiety), for instance, have been hypothesized to aggravate acne by altering the gut microbiota and increasing intestinal permeability, potentially contributing to skin inflammation. It is increasingly believed that the interaction between skin microbes and host immunity plays an important role in this disease, with perturbed microbial composition and activity found in acne patients. Acne also has close connections with the gastrointestinal tract, and many argue that the gut microbiota could be involved in the pathogenic process of acne. Diet also shapes the gut microbiota. Emerging data suggest that dietary factors (i.e., the Western diet) may influence acne development. Growing evidence indicates that probiotics modify the pathophysiologic factors that contribute to acne, potentially improving patient compliance. Probiotics also have immunomodulatory properties on keratinocytes and epithelial cells. Taken together, the findings suggest that the microbiota plays an important role in acne pathogenesis and can be modulated for clinical improvement, but efforts should be made to identify the exact mechanisms and therapeutic effects of oral/topical probiotics in acne. This presentation concentrates on the skin and gut microbes in acne, the role that the gut–brain– skin axis plays in the immunobiology of acne, and newly emerging microbiomebased therapies that can be applied to treat acne. With the help of Deniplant brand natural remedies, the authors have developed several products for acne that act as immunomodulators of the human microbiome.","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88092340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, the mitigation of climate changes require strict regulations regarding the use and efficient combustion of solid fuels such as coal and reduction of the emissions. One way to ensure reduction of the emissions is an efficient combustion, which can be obtained using the pulverized coal. The pulverized coal ensure the good mixing of the fuel and air reactants and thus, it ensures an efficient combustion and minimization of the emissions. Experimental studies of solid fuels combustion are challenging and costly. Therefore, the computational methods offer the advantage of fast and accurate predictions of the flow variables and combustion products. In this study we propose a computational method using the large-eddy simulation (LES) approach along with the flamet combustion model. The study shows that the LES approach along with the flamet model predict very well the flow variables and combustion products. The study reveals an increase of entropy and decrease of density in the combustion region. As the flame moves towards the exit of the combustion the temperature decreases.","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81888603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Morphea is a rare dermatological disease with no known cause, characterized by persistent inflammation, collagen deposition, fibrosis, and atrophy, as well as a considerable reduction in quality of life. Case presentation. An 89-year-old female patient, with a history of arterial hypertension, right mastectomy, and radiation therapy for breast cancer 10 years before, presented for the appearance of two erythematous plaques in the right submammary groove and right flank. The plaques are well-defined, with irregular margins, and have dimensions of 10/5 cm, and 13/8 cm respectively, were infiltrated, with areas of skin retraction and visible capillary network, itchy and painful. They were observed six months before presentation, as a single hyperpigmented lesion that gradually evolved into its current appearance and was treated as a subcutaneous hematoma, without resolution. Laboratory tests showed a nonspecific inflammatory syndrome and an increase in antinuclear antibodies. By corroborating the clinical and paraclinical data, the diagnosis of plaque morphea was made, and the systemic treatment with Penicillin G 2mil IU/12h, 311nm UVB phototherapy was initiated, with favorable evolution. At the subsequent hospitalization, after noticing the increase in the size of the plaques, with their extension to the left hemiabdomen, it was decided to start treatment with Methotrexate 7.5 mg/week, with a favorable evolution and the disappearance of fibrous bands. Conclusions. Although radiotherapy may be the trigger factor of morphea, the time until the onset of the disease (9 years) is consistent with the data presented in the literature (9.4 years).","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75915517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In implant-prosthetic therapy, these software applications epresent necessary adjuvant tools in optimizing therapeutic decisions regarding the pro-implant and implant stages as well as in creating a therapeutic planning algorithm. PRODENT Acad Expert (data recording and database) and PRODENT Indices (calculation of biological indices and recommendation for the optimal treatment solution) (Neo-Tech, Romania) are tools that allows the registration and entry of data in the database, registration of clinical and biological indices in pretreatment and post-implant stage, respectively the recommendation of an optimal prosthetic solution. The use of this application is necessary in monitoring changes related to the biological components of the stomatognathic system in postimplant stage. Expert applications for the assessment of mucosal and bone support, planning of bone addition procedures and positioning of dental implants laid the foundations of digital implantology (Implant 3D, Universe; NobleGuide, Nobel Biocare; Digital Smile Design, DSD; SimPlant, Dental Materialize; Virtual Implant Placement, BioHorizons; ImplantMaster, iDent; Implant 3D, Media Lab; EasyGuide, Keystone Dental). The Digital Smile Design favors the planning of prosthetic therapy and the design of the future prosthetic work in accordance with the aesthetic principles and the requirements of the patients, based on a motivational mock-up. Literature data demonstrate the increase in the long-term success rate in digital-assisted implant-prosthetic therapy and justify the widespread expansion of the use of digital applications in current contemporary dental practice.","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"116 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73709213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Humans worldwide are diagnosed with neuropsychiatric disorders like epilepsy, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, or ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and, consequently, research has been done in order to analyse different plant extracts’ effects in their treatment, considering the various side effects conventional drugs could have. Judging by the neuroanatomical similarities to the human body and due to the advantages it has as experimental purpose animal, zebrafish (Danio rerio) has been preferred throughout the past years in the detriment of mammalian animal models. Objectives. This study aims to analyse the specialized literature regarding the benefits of phytotherapy in neuropsychiatric disorders treatment, using the zebrafish as animal model. Methods. This systematic analysis involved search engines like PubMed, Zfin, Semantic Scholar, Microsoft Academic, Scite and BASE (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine). Publications from 1960-2021 were used only, and reviews, conference articles or video/audio information were not selected in order to avoid redundancy, while journal articles were preferred. Different key words combinations were used to collect the articles related to the subject of interest. Results. Analysing the collected data, it can be concluded that zebrafish is increasingly used in behavioural, toxicological, or genetical research as descriptive or experimental model. Also, there is an expanding interest in using this species to investigate phytotherapy's benefits in neuropsychiatric disorders treatment.","PeriodicalId":31755,"journal":{"name":"Annals Series on engineering sciences Academy of Romanian Scientists","volume":"144 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77964479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
