This paper presents a new approach for the vehicle traction effort calculation based on the information obtained from a hyperspectral camera. In this case study, the scenarios for different road surfaces are considered to predict the road load affecting the (ISEAUTO) self-driving electric vehicle (EV) designed at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). The collected dataset contains the hyperspectral images acquired mainly in the urban environment of the vehicle pathway. Combining the knowledge of the platform parameters and information regarding the road surface material derived from hyperspectral images using a deep learning technique provides a new layer of data that may be used in more accurate and safe vehicle control.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121632225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of wind, solar and hydro energy is rising rapidly in the world due to the less emissions of harmful gases in the atmosphere. Since the energy produced from these sources like wind and solar energy is increasing a lot, the use of grid connected inverters is also expanding. Deep analysis of these inverters’ operation is important when working in non-ideal situations. The main aim of this paper is to analyze the operation of a three-phase photovoltaic power plant (rated at 250 kW) supplying power to both three-phase and single-phase loads. The analysis covers both, connected and disconnected modes and also includes the performance of a basic islanding detection method considering voltage and frequency deviation of the phase locked loop (PLL) at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) and the effect on the whole system considering unbalanced situations with different values of irradiances is observed. The novelty of this paper is to identify a case in which the islanding detection fails due to the connection of a single-phase load in the point of low voltage.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121964993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advancements in the semiconductor technology have opened up several avenues and opportunities to improve the building or houses electrical infrastructure. dc energy distribution is future technology for houses or commercial buildings, which aims to eliminate redundant ac/dc conversion stages and further results in reduced carbon footprint. The dc microgrids present minimal transmission line length and are dominated by voltage source converters. Therefore, dc microgrids feature very low line inductance and high capacitance, leading to higher fault currents. Hence, such systems demand fast and reliable dc circuit breakers for fault interruption. This article presents the performance analysis of protection methods used in residential dc microgrids. The dynamic and static parameters of different circuit breaker topologies like electromechanical, solid state, hybrid and relay based circuit breakers are analyzed and experimentally evaluated.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114892690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A part of this impact is going to be inflicted by the electrification of heating with heat pumps (HPs). Therefore, it is essential that the future power consumption of electric heating is estimated. This work develops a power estimation model without the use of heating demand data, needing only weather data and building & heat pump specifications. Moreover, it is characterized as a risk-averse estimation since it uses no optimal control and utilizes the heat pump output capacity curves giving simultaneous priority to the customers’ thermal comfort. Finally, it also estimates the power savings of electric heating due to future buildings’ new insulation and energy label norms, revealing their importance.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114461134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high penetration of these renewable energy sources has posed new challenges on the stability of the power grid. In response to these challenges, grid-following and grid-forming converters have been introduced as an effective solution for the modern power system. However, the impact of the X/R ratio in the power grid on the stability of these converters is not well understood. In order to fill in this gap, this paper conducts a detailed analysis on the control schemes of both the grid-following and grid-forming converters, and analyzes the eigenvalue trajectories with the change of the X/R ratio. To investigate how the X/R ratio affects the stability of the grid-following and grid-forming converters, a time-domain simulation model is built in Matlab/Simulink. The result reveals that the stability of both the grid-following converter and the grid-forming converter is improved when the X/R ratio is decreasing.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"532 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133240339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DC energy buildings have specific standards related to voltage levels, protection zones, and isolation. These requirements define the specific objectives for the power converters design. The dcdc stage is typically a challenge to design because the standard solution, the dual-active bridge converter, has limitations regarding soft-switching range, circulating current, and losses. To address the design of the dc-dc stage for i-AFE converters, this paper presents a guideline considering DC energy buildings as an application. The methodology and design requirements for DAB converters are described. In addition, a 5-kW prototype was assembled, and tested in the laboratory to validate the presented analysis.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133535566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Computer simulations were used for the verification of the proposed methodology for the use case of DJI Mavic 3 drones for persistent surveillance at an altitude of 300 m. Based on analysis of the battery’s state of charge (SOC) changing during flight and charging, border conditions of the minimum required SOC for persistent surveillance and the minimum required number of drones were established. It was found that persistent surveillance in such a system is possible if the number of drones is 3 and more, and increasing the number of drones is efficient only up to 6 drones when the operation range reached 5190 m. Further increasing the number to 10 drones can extend the operating range to 7110 m, which is close to the maximum possible distance of 7346 m.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129655248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a novel approach has been presented to identify ITs defects and distinguish them from conventional system events (e.g., sudden load change or short circuit faults). This approach applies a deterministic change point detection algorithm on a specific time window of the observed measurements. Moreover, the proposed methodology omits the requirement for installing excessive hardware on the ITs for online defect identification. This methodology aids to early stage equipment failure detection that avoids unexpected failures, reduces maintenance costs, and maintains the reliability of the system. The measurement data are acquired from PSCAD simulations and the obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":315989,"journal":{"name":"2023 IEEE 17th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124298826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
