Ademas de ofrecer un marco general para la comprension de este modelo, se pretende ofrecer una valoracion de los avances de las distintas iniciativas y proyectos que han tratado de llevar a la practica este planteamiento teorico. De esta forma, se realiza un analisis de distintas experiencias pioneras a nivel internacional y se identifican algunas claves que obstaculizan que los repositorios impulsados por fondos publicos y de gran alcance sean capaces de nutrirse del trabajo colaborativo que se produce en otros repositorios mas localizados, en lo que definimos como entornos proximos de colaboracion.
