EEG biofeedback involves monitoring and altering brain activity. It has been shown to effectively treat such problems as epilepsy and brain disorders. To apply this technology on a personal setting, an inexpensive and user-friendly device, capable of processing brain signals and providing logical interpretation of the recorded activity, is required. Several types of electrodes and feedback mechanisms, as well as a design for high-gain amplifiers, have been researched and analyzed. Moreover, the current design of the prototype and the anticipated future work are discussed in the following article.","PeriodicalId":315018,"journal":{"name":"2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114768915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design strategy is based on the combination of the invariant-manifold stabilization technique with the classical adaptive compensation method. Simulation results showed that the presence of symmetric dead-zone inputs in the system dynamics can be handled even for arbitrary large dead-zone parameters.","PeriodicalId":315018,"journal":{"name":"2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115426137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Any downscaling of channels which is used microfluidics components in such systems intensified the phenomena. Application of the electroosmotic micropumps is suitable for very low Reynolds number. In this paper a modified fabrication process presented to design an “AC electrokinetic micropump” with minimized channel geometry. The proposed device is a 4-phase travelling wave electroosmotic micropump, which is fabricated by surface micromachining technique. During the fabrication process, a thin silicon nitride layer covers the electrodes. The pumping performance is studied by presence of this thin insulator layer. This study reveals that the pump operates if the electric conductivity of fluid buffer is low. Additional advantage of the insulator layer over electrode arrays is the preventing of high electric field on electrode edges and consequently undesired chemical reactions, like electrolyze. The fabrication process and results of finite element analysis is presented. The maximum flow rate of “2.39 mm/s” is obtained at a wide frequency range.","PeriodicalId":315018,"journal":{"name":"2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121072077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, an alternative accurate navigation system for such GPS-denied systems is of great importance. In this paper, the popular IEEE 802.11 WLAN (WiFi) is utilized along with a MEMS-based reduced inertial sensors system (RISS) to provide an accurate and smooth positioning system for wheeled vehicles inside buildings based on WiFi received signal strength (RSS). The WiFi/RISS integration is performed based on a fast version of Mixture Particle Filter (PF) which is a nonlinear non-Gaussian filtering algorithm that handles well the complex MEMS inertial sensors and WiFi stochastic nature. The proposed system was physically implemented on an embedded system on an OMAP 600 MHz processor board and tested on a mobile robot. Results show that drifts of RISS are greatly removed and the scattered noisy WiFi positioning is significantly smoothed. Experiments show that the integrated system can provide smooth indoor positioning of 2m accuracy 60% of time.","PeriodicalId":315018,"journal":{"name":"2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123796551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a framework for automotive model-based design by mapping AUTOSAR concepts with a common model-based design of a steering-by-wire system. It explores how AUTOSAR rules and interfaces can be used to design and build a safety-critical mechatronics system like the steering-by-wire system. The system should be modeled from a system (e.g. controllers, network) and behavioral (e.g. Matlab/Simulink) point of view and both the functional and non-functional requirements should be verified in this model.","PeriodicalId":315018,"journal":{"name":"2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122239290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We established a theoretical enlightenment of fluid mechanics and MHD equations. We emphasized on the application of MHD effect in cardiovascular MRI where an interpretation of MHD on ECG signals was clearly premeditated. The theory was simulated using SIMULINK™. We were able to detect the MHD noise affecting the MR-ECG. According to assumed parameters, the obtained signal amplitude allowed to obtain a correct cardiovascular signal after verifying no ST segment elevation. However, the developed exploration will facilitate the elimination of the MHD effect in cardiovascular MRI after presuming and identifying the MHD signal by using simulation.","PeriodicalId":315018,"journal":{"name":"2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125597521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a design of a holonomic mobile robot for rough terrain that can replace the human role in the demining applications. A suspension system based on the bogie mechanism was adopted in order to overcome rough terrains. The flexible design of the robot enables it to move in any direction at any instant without changing the orientation of the body. The motion of the robot was simulated using the Pro-Engineer software and the robot stability margins for different road conditions were found in order to predict the possibility of tipping-over before any maneuver.","PeriodicalId":315018,"journal":{"name":"2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115390958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As it is managed by the Department of Defence of the U.S.A., there is always the risk of the occasional inaccuracies or deliberate insertion of errors, therefore this system can not be used by secret services or armies of countries other than the U.S.A. This situation has engender a need for development of an autonomous radiolocation system.
