Isolation of these bacteria from healthcare-associated and community infections is increasingly observed with resistance response to many antibiotics. The study aimed to identify the clinical and antimicrobial resistance pattern of coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from various healthcare-associated and community-acquired infections. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Shar Teaching Hospital and San Clinical Laboratory for a period of one year starting from 1st of November 2019.Isolated coagulase-negative staphylococci were collected from various hospitals and clinical laboratories. The isolate species were confirmed by several tests including VITEK® 2. VITEK® 2 systems was also used to determine the susceptibility to different antibiotics including cefoxitin, oxacillin gentamicin, linezolid, and glycopeptide agents’ teicoplanin and vancomycin which were tested also by E-test. Results: Coagulase-negative staphylococci were isolated from urine specimens (23%), followed by blood samples (20%), sterile body fluids (12%), and others. From one hundred isolates, the most common species of coagulase-negative staphylococci were Staphylococcus epidermidis (57%), Staphylococcus haemolyticus (24%), Staphylococcus hominis (8%), and others. The isolates showed high degree of resistance to benzyl penicillin (92%), oxacillin (85%), and cefoxitin (83%). No resistance to linezolid, tigecycline, and glycopeptides was detected. Conclusion: Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus haemolyticus were the main coagulase-negative staphylococci isolates from several healthcare-associated infections such as bloodstream and urinary tract infection. Most of the isolates showed resistance responses to benzyl penicillin, oxacillin, and cefoxitin, while they were susceptible to glycopeptides, linezolid, and tigecycline, but intermediate response to glycopeptide was also observed.","PeriodicalId":314832,"journal":{"name":"Advanced medical journal","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114540335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the normal population, many children have speech delays, of which more than one-third of them will not resolve spontaneously and need further management.The aim of the study was to find any statistical correlation of speech delay with smart phone usage . Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted and data were collected from randomly selected 300 toddlers aged 12-36 months who attended two rimary health care centers in Erbil city-Iraq during the period from the 1st of January 2020 to the end of January 2021. A designed questionnaire was used to assess the speech delay in the toddlers and evaluate factors that may affect language development including (socio-echonomic state, hours of use, type of videos…etc) Results: The mean age of the study participants was 26.7months. Despite the higher percentage of speech delay in the user group (among which the delay was more in those watching non-age-appropriate videos than age-appropriate videos with percentages of 84%, 53.2% respectively) than the nonuser group, but it was statistically non-significant. The delay was more prominent among those using smart devices for four hours or more (76.1%).the percentage of delayed speech was higher in those who watch videos with same mother language (76.9%)with lower in those with other language videos (53.1%). Conclusion: Prevalence of speech delay was higher in toddlers using smart phone with significant increase in the percentage of delay associated with longer duration of usage.","PeriodicalId":314832,"journal":{"name":"Advanced medical journal","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114735776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It may affect one (local) or a group of teeth (generalized), affects individuals in all ages. The prevalence of gingival recession is high worldwide. Gingival recession gives rise to numerous problems, like functional and aesthetic concerns to psychological problems. Objective of the study was to estimate prevalence of gingival recession and risk factors in Erbil province. Methods: This cross sectional-study carried out on 989 patients that visited Khanzad Teaching Center for oral health in Erbil city. All participants were evaluated by filling in questionnaires form with a clinical examination by single examiner. Results: Among 989 participants, 70.4% were females and 29.6% were males with mean age of 34.86 ± 10.63 years. Gingival recession seen in about 93.6% of participants. Significant association was detected between educational level and age with gingival recession, but this was not consistent throughout the educational categories as it was (41.7%) in post-graduate, (12%) in college graduate, and (28.8%) in illiterate. No significant association was detected between gingival recession with gender and ethnic group (p = 0.183, and p = 0.327). The risk factors mostly associated with recession were plaque index, periodontal diseases, frenul pull, tooth position, age.
