Currently, hydrological models were used to get the prediction of flood water levels. However, this involved with various parameters such as hydrometric measurements, weather forecasts and hydrogeological maps, in addition to water level, temperature and flow observations. Therefore, such models are usually difficult to develop especially when describing large and complex system such as the dynamic of flood water level. Since flood water level fluctuate highly nonlinear, it is very difficult to predict the flood water level. Since Artificial Neural Network was proven to be best model to handle nonlinear cases, this paper proposed flood prediction modelling using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique with 7 hours prediction time. The area of study was Terengganu where the input parameters used in this modelling were river water level at upstream stations whereas output parameter was river water level at downstream station or so called flood location. 542 samples data collected from 15/12/2011 till 19/12/2011 were used for modelling, 542 samples data collected from 26/2/2012 till 1/3/2011 were used for model validation and 428 samples data collected data from 4/6/2013 till 7/6/2013 were used for model testing. Results showed that NNARX model successfully predicted flood water level 7 hours ahead of time.","PeriodicalId":314829,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134013598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In SHVC, the enhancement layer (EL) employs the same coding methods as the base layer (BL) for different color components, namely one luminance (luma) and two chrominance (chroma) color components, which causes heavy computation cost. This paper proposes a fast EL luma and chroma intra coding algorithm for all intra configuration in SHVC. The correlation of prediction modes and transform unit (TU) depth between different color channels from different layers are exploited to simplify the intra prediction process in EL. Experimental results show that approximately 30% and 27% encoding time can be saved in All intra 2x and 1.5x respectively, while the BD-rate degradation are 0.4% and -0.1% compared with SHVC Test Model (SHM) 8.0.","PeriodicalId":314829,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125783755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to its flexibility, it explains a dynamic system better than integer-order model does. In this study, fractional-order model is applied in model identification of electro-hydraulic actuator system and the performance is compared with integer-order model. First-order until third-order model of both models were evaluated using output-error method. The models were validated based on their best-fit and independence test. To obtain a high success rate of tracking, frequent occlusion among players is a problem to be solved. This paper proposes a least square fitting prediction model and a spatial relationship based multi-view elimination method based on a particle filter scheme in 3D space. The prediction model applies a least square fitting to positions in several previous time steps, which can predict player's position during occlusion accurately. The elimination method eliminates other players' regions based on distances between camera and players' positions, which distinguishes players separately and avoids feature loss in severe occlusion. Experiments conducted on videos of the Final Game of 2014 Japan Inter High School Games of Men's Volleyball in Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium show that this multiple players tracking algorithm achieves an average tracking success rate of 97.05%.","PeriodicalId":314829,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129207030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper explains how the combined dissimilar characteristics of voice data improve the performance of speaker verification when training and testing data lengths are reduced (less than 15 sec). To carry out this work, Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC), Linear Prediction Cepstral Coefficient (LPCC), Linear Prediction Residual (LPR) and Linear Prediction Residual Phase (LPRP) features are considered. The features are extracted from these extraction techniques are studied individually and pooled them to acquire better verification performance. The experimental evaluation is made by different classifiers of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and GMM-universal background model (GMM-UBM). The NIST-2003 dataset is used for conducting experiments. The combined dissimilar features provide relatively improved performance compared to all individual features. The GMM-UBM classifier comparatively gives reduced equal error rate (EER) compared to GMM.","PeriodicalId":314829,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121273722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reduction of complexity remains a fundamental problem in adaptive filtering due to the time constraints of real applications. The proposed solution to this problem is an enrichment of the GR class of approximate QR based adaptive filtering algorithms. Inside this class, the orthogonal Q transforms (of QR-RLS) can be substituted with a more general partially non-orthogonal G transforms. The new square-root-free algorithms, in this paper, uses an approximate Givens rotation without square-root computation, it is simply based on a taylor expansion and approximation. In order to converge this transform must be followed by an additional compensation transform with O(N) complexity. Unlike previous contributions, this square-root free approach guaranteed the derivation of both standard and fast versions (O(N) complexity). We have tested two square-root free algorithms corresponding to the QR-RLS and its fast QR-based variant. The obtained results are close to those for the original algorithms. Finally, the proposed algorithms constitute a robust approximation with low complexity of the fast converging recursive least-squares.","PeriodicalId":314829,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"424 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116005315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes a tele-haptic application which can be utilised to give the mobile telerobots the ability to identify materials in the performance of its duties in rescue missions. The force feedback which will be generated from this application will be different for all materials and this will be one of the means of identification. Additionally, an audio component will inform the user as to which material has been touched. The purpose of the method is for monitoring the load of individual appliances by analyzing the current waveform on a power distribution board. Since the mixed current waveform contains unidentified current waveforms, a special method is required. Therefore, we propose to apply our method, called the “inscribed fitting method” with an asymmetric evaluation function, for the extraction. We apply our method to the mixed current waveforms of appliances, showing that we can extract the current waveforms of appliances from the mixed current waveforms which contain unidentified current waveforms.","PeriodicalId":314829,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114171858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As part of ongoing research in establishing agarwood oil quality grading, this paper presents Direct Thermal Desorption (DTD) in extracting commercial, high and low quality of agarwood incense. The Gas Chromatography - Flame Ionization Detection (GC-FID) and Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) then are followed to analyze the compounds. All the identified compounds are tabulated and plotted. The result showed that high quality sample yielded the highest number of compounds, 35, followed by commercial, 32 and low quality sample, 9. It revealed that the highest relative peak areas (%) for compounds in three types of sample are different to each other. They are 8.98% (γ-gurjunene) in high quality, 11.95% (agarospirol) in low quality and 17.97% (hexadecanol) in commercial. Nine compounds, α-guaiene, β-selinene, agarospirol, guaia-1(10),11-dien-15-al, pentadecanoic acid, hexadecanol, eudesmol, guaia-1(10),11-dien-15,2-olide and 2-(2-phenylethyl) chromone exist in all samples but varied in their relative peak area (%). The finding using proposed method, DTD is significant, hence it will benefit further analysis especially for agarwood grading.","PeriodicalId":314829,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114587808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
