Methods: Flow cytometry was used to analyze the distribution of T-lymphocyte subsets and natural killer cells in the pe- ripheral blood of lung cancer patients, patients with benign pulmonary diseases, and healthy controls. The peripheral-blood lymphocyte levels of the subjects were compared. Clinical data obtained from 102 lung cancer cases were reviewed retrospectively, and the relation- ship of lymphocyte subsets with prognosis and clinico-pathologic features was analyzed. Results: The level of CD4+ T cells was lower in the peripheral blood of lung cancer patients than that of the healthy controls (P 0.05). However, the abnormal distribution of lympho- cyte subsets was related to lymphatic metastasis, TNM stage, and tumorigenesis P<0.05). Conclusion: The distribution of T-lympho- cyte subsets and natural killer cells was abnormal in the peripheral blood of lung cancer patients, and the dynamic changes in distribu- tion can help assess the immune functions of lung cancer patients. Cellular immune function can act as a prognostic indicator in lung cancer patients.","PeriodicalId":314105,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Oncology and Cancer Research","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124172036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prevention and the treatment of VTE are important. The risk of thrombosis among cancer patients is increaseds by sev- en times, but this risk may be 28 times higher in patients with hematological tumors. This increased risk seriously affects the quality of life and the prognosis of malignant lymphoma patients. However, the pathogenesis and risk factors for VTE in the lymphoma patients are not well well-defined. This study reveals that tissue factors, micro-particles, and single nucleotide polymorphisms of gene are associ- ated with VTE. Therefore, the identification of patients with the highest risk of VTE is important to improve the diagnostic rate of VTE. These patients would benefit from thrombo-prophylaxis. We therefore need a simple and effectual risk assessment model for predicting the incidence rates of VTE. Moreover, peripheral blood biomarkers might improve the accuracy of the diagnosis. Patients with lympho- ma have a high risk for hemorrhage, and receiving anticoagulant therapy is challenging for them. This review summarizes the current knowledge of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, prophylaxis, and treatment of VTE in patients with lymphoma.","PeriodicalId":314105,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Oncology and Cancer Research","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133117274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The metabolism of tumor cells is unique in that aerobic glycolysis occurs with increased glycolysis and decreased mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, even in the presence of oxygen. The Warburg effect is related to the original observation that proliferating tumor cells consume glucose at a high rate and release lactate, not CO2. In terms of carbon emissions, a low carbon lifestyle exists in tumor cells. This lifestyle represents one such mechanism whereby increased entry of glucose ensures rapid proliferation and sustenance of biological processes critical for proliferation, metastasis, and adaptation, and further proliferation at the metastatic site. The underlying mechanisms involve directing glucose toward biosynthesis, rapid cell energy generation, gene mutation, environmental selection, acid resistance, escape from apoptosis and maintaince of tumor stem cell.","PeriodicalId":314105,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Oncology and Cancer Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121306739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The expressions of NRP-1mRNA and VEGFmRNA were detected by the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method. Microvascular density (MVD) marked by CD105-positive vascular with SP immunohistochemical staining was also assessed in surgical specimens of gastric carcinoma (GC) and normal gastric tissues (NG). The correlation of NRP-1mRNA, VEGFmRNA with clinical patholo¬gical factors and the relationship among NRP-1mRNA, VEGFmRNA, and MVD were analyzed. Results: The expressions of NRP-1mRNA, VEGFmRNA, and CD105 in GC were significantly higher than those in NG (P<0.01). The expressions of NRP-1mRNA and VEGFmRNA were closely correlated with the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis in GC (P<0.05). A positive correlation was observed between the expressions of NRP-1mRNA and VEGFmRNA (r=0.58, P<0.01). MVD correlated with NRP-1 (r=0.52, P<0.01) and with VEGF (r= 0.74, P<0.01). Conclusion: Results indicated that the NRP-1 and VEGF expressions could be involved in the angiogenesis and tumor progression of human gastric carcinoma. The combined detection of NRP-1 and VEGF could also determine the invasion and progression of gastric carcinoma, which plays a particular role in guiding the anti-angiogenic ther-","PeriodicalId":314105,"journal":{"name":"Clinical Oncology and Cancer Research","volume":"43 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114107842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
