Furthermore, the islands consist a major global tourism destination, so the potential minimization of their carbon footprint is essential for the success of the Paris Agreement. The islands have the potential to be frontrunners in the clean energy transition by adopting new technologies, implementing and demonstrating innovative solutions, also for transport. However, there is a number of challenges for their smooth operation and sustainability, such as: Energy safety, space use, road safety, air quality and noise pollution are some transport related issues that islands have to cope with. Islands are attractive as touristic destinations, feature a high pressure to their fantastic nature and sensitive ecosystems, which need special care and protection The seasonal fluctuation in their operation impacts on the design of their necessary infrastructure (ports, roads, energy supply systems) Although they should comply with the most recent national and international commitments, they are missing capacity, resources and social preparation for these changes. Fostering a Mediterranean insular sustainable energy and mobility approach will also support the development of innovative, quality tourism products and services to make destinations even more attractive, as well as to address the mobility needs of citizens and visitors. The above approach was discussed during the Public Hearing organized by the Network of the Insular Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the European Union (INSULEUR) and the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Lab of the Technical University of Crete (ReSEL-TUC) on Friday 8 th of June 2018 at the premises of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), in Brussels. The event was organised in partnership with the EESC and was supported by the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) and the European Small Islands Federation (ESIN).","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46482467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The maximum efficiency is realized when PV works at its maximum power point, which is contingent on irradiation and temperature. Since the irradiation and temperature always change with time, a PV system which able to track the maximum power point needs to be established to produce more energy. the IC method shows a superior performance, lower oscillation and it took 3second to match MPP that abest time to give stability to the system. the control strategy is supported out using MATLAB/Simulink and experimentally validated with a dSPACE MicroLabBox controller.","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41458248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A narrow strip of land forms the Nile Valley and Delta sector. The National Project for Desert Hinterlands is one of the urban projects targeting rehabilitation of the poor in alternative villages in the near desert to stop urban sprawl over agricultural land and decrease the congestion in the old habitats. Low cost energy efficient houses are the aim of the architect in similar projects taking in consideration the high electricity consumption of Egypt’s residential sector. Based on a literature review, this paper presents a proposal for designing desert dwellings that accommodates the hot dry climate by incorporating passive elements and using stabilized earth blocks as a local building material. Furthermore, simulation is used to test alternative proposals. The results show that an underground constructed house with a sunken courtyard incorporating an Earth to Air Heat Exchanger System (EAHE) can reduce between 42-72% of energy consumption used to achieve thermal comfort compared to contemporary desert housing projects.","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46580415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resolution of COP21 in Paris to keep the temperature increase well below 2°C is signed already by 172 of 197 parties ( http://unfccc.int/paris_agreement/items/9485.php ). One very important step to reach these goals is to develop new ideas and implement existing technologies for energy efficiency and renewable energies in a broad range. This will also bring down the costs for the energy system transformation. The limitation of renewable energies in regions with high population density will lead, on the on the one hand, to large energy distribution networks causing new economic and political dependencies between countries, and, on the other hand, to more efficient technologies and systems like energy efficient buildings (for hot and cold climates), energy efficient transportation systems like more public transportation, smaller and electric (or hydrogen) driven cars, and more efficient industrial processes. Knowledge generation and distribution as done in the International Journal on Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development plays an important role for this further development.","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45381361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The heat transfer mechanism and the enhanced heat transfer method of the supercritical CO 2 Brayton cycle (SCO 2 -BC) have been studied by many researchers, which can be used in the new generation of Fast Cooling Reactor (FCR), solar power system, extraction progress and heat pump system. With the development of engineering technology, the system miniaturization is the most important characteristics in application, which the SCO 2 -BC can satisfy the requirements with high efficiency and high compactness. In the present paper, the research progress of SCO 2 -BC including the performance evaluation, system optimization and economic evaluation are reviewed based on the references in recent years. Then, the analysis of the key components including the compressor, turbine and heat exchanger are introduced with the special thermal properties of supercritical CO 2 , which are different from the conventional devices in the traditional steam cycle. Finally, some recommendations for future work are primarily proposed towards the development of SCO 2 -BC system.","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42398180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
