In view of this, the use of photovoltaic systems for electricity generation has grown surprisingly, reaching the mark of 8 gigawatts of installed power on Brazilian soil in the year 2021 [1]. In Brazil, public agencies represent 0.1% with 4.7MW installed [1], and in the state of Mato Grosso 0.38% [14]. Thus, aiming at the rise of electricity generation in public buildings, due to the possibility of reducing costs with the electric bill, the present work deals with the dimensioning, budget quotation and economic feasibility analysis regarding the installation of a grid-connected photovoltaic power generation system to meet the energy demands of the Jorge de Abreu Regional Hospital in the city of Sinop, Mato Grosso state, Brazil. Whose, after carrying out the necessary research based on the techniques present in the economic sciences, as Minimum Attractiveness Rate (MRA), Net Present Value (VLP), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and calculation of Payback. The present work considered a grid-connected solar energy generation system of 585 kW to supply the hospital's average monthly consumption of 93.829 kWh/month. The investment analysis showed that the project for the implementation of the photovoltaic system will have its NPV viable from the 4th year of installation and the Payback (return on investment), observing the monetary corrections, of approximately 4,29 years, thus configuring the system as economic financially.","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48490030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transformations at environmental, scientific, technological, cultural and social level force everyone to rethink the meaning and even the value of the human experience and urge the academic community, policymakers and decision-makers within higher education and wider society to find proper solutions.Universities are at the center of this transformation process with their dual responsibilities at local and global scale, coping with the intrinsic difficulties in addressing local and global demands to contribute to a more equitable and sustainable society.More and more, higher education sector is required to play as a social agent by exploiting the multiplicity of its knowledges as well as exploring teaching methodologies, curricula and the concept of lifelong learning.Universities must analyse and interpret the current concept of university social engagement and social responsibility and reflect on how “glocal” engagement should be included in teaching, learning, research and institutional activities, governance and leadership. They should identify how the different social actors are involved in glocal engagement practices, and how they can interact with them.MED-QUAD project provides an example of university civic engagement in the Mediterranean region, including EU (IT and GR) and non-EU institutions (EG, TN, JO, PA).","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42242747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meeting such a demand is already exerting significant pressure on the environment and creating significant pressure for identifying and implementing more sustainable approaches for protein production and utilization. This looming problem needs to be addressed quickly, considering the recent accelerating rise in feed and food prices and their subsequent impact on the sociopolitical stability of several developing societies. This paper quickly reviews the environmental impact of current practices used for meeting the world's protein needs. It then introduces an environmentally-friendly novel approach for converting natural gas into Single Cell Protein that can be used as an ingredient in animal feed formulations. After reviewing the historical background for this approach and the various factors affecting its sustainability, the main impediments to its widespread adoption are discussed, and several means for enhancing the overall sustainability of the approach are presented.","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44420053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DSSs have high applicability in several business areas and enable users without technical knowledge in computing to manipulate the information needed for a more assertive decision-making process. This study presents a DSS to support the decision process of installing a photovoltaic solution that considers the contracted power, the monthly expenses in electricity, and the location of the installation. The return on investment is estimated considering the annual savings in electricity and the return on investment. The findings indicate the relevance of the application to support the user in choosing the best solution and reveal that geographical location is a determining factor in the potential energy savings. Furthermore, the payback period decreases by increasing users' monthly consumption and is also potentiated by the increase in contracted power.","PeriodicalId":31382,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42599520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Developing countries and emerging markets have a smaller share of the international research on the topic, while policymaking based on local empirical research, they could cut a percentage of unnecessary energy overuse. The benefits of policymaking based on empirical transportation / energy research do not remain limited to energy efficiency; it also has positive effects on environmental pollution control. Moreover, transportation [1] and urban planning [2,3,4] policies can limit both energy use and air pollution, however such efficiency improvements may be most effective when they are derived from the vernacular conditions. This is important because the energy consumption of the transportation sector is rapidly increasing. In a country as populated and large as China, the oil consumed by transportation corresponded to 49.6% of oil use in the whole country in 2006 [5], while the results of a study undertaken only four years later shows that 60.1% of the Chinese petroleum end-use is caused by transportation [6]. Out of the large part of overall energy use share caused by transportation sector, private cars are important users. In Mexico, private vehicles account for 31% of transport energy consumption [7]. The Chinese energy consumption and CO2 emission conditions need further improvements in the transportation sector [8]. The conditions are the same in several other comparable countries. Even though studies on developing countries and emerging markets are not comparable to those of high-income countries, still a few studies have been conducted on the relations between urban transportation and energy consumption in these geographical contexts. For instance, it has been shown that renewable energy use Granger-cause energy consumption in road transportation in Malaysia [9]. There is a unidirectional causality from transport infrastructure to energy consumption in India [10]. Furthermore, there is a bi-directional causality between transport energy consumption, FDI and CO2 emissions in Thailand and Malaysia [11]. Nevertheless, a causal relationship between transport energy use and all environmental emissions has not been found, e.g. in Pakistan no evidence for the role of transport energy consumption on CO2 emission has been recognized [12]. In many developing countries, fast urbanization is related to transportation energy use. The reason lies in the close relationship between urbanization and urban sprawl on the one hand and motorization rate and traffic generation on the other hand. Although many years ago it has been observed in several international cities that urban densities are positively correlated with transport energy consumption [13,14], it has also been shown that this relation exists only on the urban level.
