This paper describes the use of phase space tracking, i.e. reconstruction of bunch phase space trajectories, as a comprehensive instability diagnostic. A new instability cure is also presented, based on recent insights into the dynamics of unevenly-filled rings. Data is shown from PEP-II and the ALS, where \"optimally shaped\" uneven fills have yielded significant increases in instability thresholds.","PeriodicalId":313758,"journal":{"name":"PACS2001. The cooling ring consists of long solenoid channels with liquid H/sub 2/ absorbers and RF cavities, shorter field flipped solenoids with LiH wedge absorbers and wedge shaped 45/spl deg/ bending dipole magnets. The ring is designed to cool muons with E/sub kin/=250 MeV. This study examines the magnetic system of the muon ring cooler. The purpose at this point is to establish physical fields for the magnetic system that can be used in tracking studies.","PeriodicalId":313758,"journal":{"name":"PACS2001. The peak luminosity in PEP-II has reached 3.4 /spl times/ 10/sup 33//cm/sup 2//s with 693 bunches with a positron current of 1.6 A and an electron current of 0.84 A. Algebraic approach to symmetries and invariants construction 对称与不变量构造的代数方法

{"title":"Algebraic approach to symmetries and invariants construction","authors":"S. Andrianov","doi":"10.1109/PAC.2001.987182","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PAC.2001.987182","url":null,"abstract":"This reports presents a new algebraic approach to approximating symmetries and invariants construction. Both invariants and symmetries are separated into dynamical and kinematical ones. Additionally each type of symmetries is separated into intrinsic and imposed symmetries. The intrinsic symmetries are generated by the dynamical system under study. The imposed symmetries ensure some desired properties of the dynamical system. This approach is very useful for optimal beam lines design problems. The kinematical invariants are used as a nonlinear theoretical probe. Such probes can be used for nonlinear effects investigation and control. Symmetries and invariants constructions procedure are based on the matrix formalism for the Lie algebraic methods. This formalism allows to create algebraic equations for determining block-matrices entering into the corresponding symmetries and invariants description. These equations can be solved in a symbolic mode, and the corresponding results are included in a special database. The algebraic approach is based on the Kronecker presentation of the Poincare-Witt basis for Lie algebras. All necessary statements are proved. Some practical applications for beam physics problems are discussed.","PeriodicalId":313758,"journal":{"name":"PACS2001. Proceedings of the 2001 Particle Accelerator Conference (Cat. The rf power output of two 1.1-MW, 352-MHz rf stations is combined utilizing a 3-dB/90-degree hybrid. The two outputs of the hybrid then supply rf power to two sectors of storage-ring cavities. Feedback control loops maintain the proper output phase and amplitude from each rf station at the combining hybrid input ports so that the correct power balance and phase relationship is maintained between the two sectors of storage ring cavities. Downstream mechanical phase shifters correct for phase changes when only one of the two rf stations is used in single-ended mode. EPICS is utilized to monitor and control the parallel-klystron system.","PeriodicalId":313758,"journal":{"name":"PACS2001. Proceedings of the 2001 Particle Accelerator Conference (Cat. In this project, a laser photocathode rf-gun with 1.6 acceleration cells with Mg cathode has been installed for production of a low emittance and short bunched electron beam. The main parts of the rf source for the rf-gun consists of a 10 MW s-band klystron and a small pulse modulator. The pulse modulator has good stability and flatness of the output pulse. The amplitude jitter of klystron voltage was realized down to 0.38% (p-p) for 20000 pulses and the pulse flatness down to 0.25% (within >1.5 /spl mu/s pulse flat-top). A high quality electron beam is very powerful tool for the study of radiation physics, radiation chemistry, material science, etc. The development of short X-ray pulse generation by the inverse Compton scattering between a high quality electron beam and laser light, will be started in the 2001 fiscal year. The system will be applied to pulse radiolysis experiments for studies on radiation physics and chemistry.","PeriodicalId":313758,"journal":{"name":"PACS2001. The gun is one of essential components for X-ray generation using inverse Compton scattering between a photo electron bunch and laser pulse. An all-solid-state picosecond Nd:YLF laser system has been installed at Waseda University and will be used not only for photo electron generation in the rf-gun but also for collision with the photo electron bunch. The laser system has the frequency conversion section, which is operated to produce the UV (262 nm) using BBO crystals from the amplified fundamental (1047 nm). An extremely stable laser system is required for the generation of a high quality electron beam, and the system is the essential component for the generation of X-rays through inverse Compton scattering. Timing and intensity stabilities of the laser pulse have been measured using time domain demodulation technique. As results a timing stability of 0.26 ps against the local oscillator of rf and an intensity stability of 0.11% have been achieved. We have carried out a numerical simulation to calculate the number of photons and the energies of X-rays by changing the crossing angles.","PeriodicalId":313758,"journal":{"name":"PACS2001. The present system employs a synchrotron with a maximum energy of 250 MeV and two rotating gantries. The beam was successfully accelerated up to 250 MeV and transported to the irradiation nozzles. The position of the beam extracted from the synchrotron was confirmed to be very stable and sufficient flatness for the irradiation area was realized by using the dual ring double scattering method developed at University of Tsukuba. Furthermore, synchrotron operation triggered by patient respiration signal was succeeded.","PeriodicalId":313758,"journal":{"name":"PACS2001.
