According to the data, there are two types of homonyms: homophones and homographs. There are ten homophones on the video, two in each tongue twister, while there is only one homograph in the \"if two witches were to watch two watches, which one would they watch?\" tongue twister. It can be concluded that homophones shape the majority of homonyms. The most popular study about the related topic is the study of women’s language features by Robin Lakoff. The way women and men in delivering content in a conversation have different characteristics and it is interesting to be studied hence we acknowledge how language is used by different genders, especially for women as the most frequent role to be appeared in the data source. This study aimed at identifying the types of women’s language and describing the functions of each feature applied by the female casts of Bridgerton in an interview video. The data in this study were taken from a YouTube video held by Netflix entitled “TUDUM: Extended Talent Panel”. The method used in collecting the data was the observation method along with the note-taking technique. The theory used to analyze the data was the theory of women’s language proposed by Lakoff (1995). The result of this study shows that there are seven women’s language features found in the Youtube interview video of Bridgerton cast such as lexical hedges or fillers, tag questions, rising intonation on declarative, empty adjectives, intensifiers, hypercorrect grammar, and avoidance of strong words. However, some women’s language features are absent in the video such as precise color terms, super-polite form, and emphatic stress. The most dominant feature used is the lexical hedges with a total of 3 types used by the female cast. This feature is used to indicate that the speaker is uncertain about their statements, to give preparation time before the statement, and to decrease the strength of the statement.Bridgerton","PeriodicalId":311629,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics and Discourse Analytics (ijolida)","volume":"72 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139333930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accordingly, this study aims to identify the types and to analyze the functions of references from the lyrics of three songs by Nicole Zefanya; “Urs”, “Around”, and “Lose”. This study was conducted using descriptive quantitative method. Documentation method and note-taking technique were used to collect the data. In analyzing the data, this study used the theory from Halliday and Hassan (1976) about grammatical cohesion, to be specific, about reference. The analysis of data was presented using formal and informal method. The results of this study showed that all kinds of reference found in the lyrics of each song of Nicole Zefanya, namely personal reference, demonstrative reference, and comparative reference. Based on the analysis, the data in the lyrics are dominated by personal reference compared to demonstrative reference and comparative reference. In detail, personal reference with 169 occurrences, demonstrative reference with 42 occurrences, and comparative reference with 11 occurrences. Thus, each reference has different functions; as the head of reference, a reference to the previous object, as a modifier, a reference to the following object, a general comparison which refers to things that similar or not similar. Additionally, it aims to substantiate the claim that Systemic Functional Grammar, in particular the idealization meta-functions, underlies Stiell's political speech at COP27. It employs both a qualitative and a quantitative mixed approach. The study's sample is Simon Stiell, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, addressing during the COP27 closing session on November 20, 2022. After that, transitivity analysis was done to determine the outcomes. These speeches have undergone transitivity system analysis. The study's findings show that Simon Stiell heavily employs the idealization meta-functions in his speeches. It demonstrates that he has extensively trained using systemic functional grammar in his discourse, which made persuading the listener to take action far more successful and persuasive. Additionally, the results demonstrate that the proportion of Material processes that use the idealization meta-functional aspects varies depending on his speech and even the context","PeriodicalId":311629,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics and Discourse Analytics (ijolida)","volume":"199 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139333313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In songs, singers tend to not pronounce several sounds in words based on the conditions and their purposes. The deletion of the sounds in phonology is called elision. The nature of elision may be stated quite simply: under certain circumstances sounds disappear. One might express this in more technical language by saying that in certain circumstances a phoneme may be realised as zero, or have zero realisation (Roach, 1991). Thus, this study aims to find out the kinds of phonological elision that occur in SZA’s selected songs in “SOS” album. The data was taken from the speech sound that is pronounced by the singer SZA in her selected songs entitled “Open Arms”, “I Hate U”, and “Good Days”. The data were collected through observing the content and note taking technique by listening to the pronounced words in the songs. The findings are divided into three. There are vowel elision, consonant elision, and syllable elision. In vowel elision, there are two cases found, the first one is /ə/ (2 data) and second case is /ɪ/ (10 data). In consonant elision there are eight cases found, the first one is /t/ (17 data), second case /d/ (10 data), third and fourth cases /p/ and /r/ (2 data respectively), and fifth to seventh cases /v/, /z/, and /n/ are found only in one data respectively. In syllable elision there are three cases found , they are /bɪ/, /ən/, and /ɒm/.","PeriodicalId":311629,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics and Discourse Analytics (ijolida)","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139333147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The varieties in linguistic items include dialects, registers, and styles. Registers are a variety of languages depending on the occasion and also the social settings. The register is usually known only by people who use the words. It connects with the occupation and particular vocabulary. Therefore, this study aims to find out the terms that are categorized as register used in cooking, the linguistic form and also the motive used in the Master Chef Indonesia program. This study applied a qualitative descriptive approach because this research is related to the study of sociolinguistics which dealt with investigating the linguistics form (proposed by Morley) and motive (proposed by Hockett) of registers that are used in the conversations. The result of this study shows that some words and compound words are categorized as register used in cooking in the Grand Final Master Chef Season 9 YouTube video Duplicate Dish by Chef Arnold. Those words are categorized as nouns and verbs for the grammatical category and they function as subject, predicate and object in the utterance. This paper examines applied linguistics used in touristic genres. This research is a qualitative exploratory study with documentation studies carried out through observation and the support of secondary data from relevant sources, including previous related research results. Touristic genres made available to help facilitate a more substantial and extended information for tourists to explore. Tourists might be attracted to visit after having exposed with fascinating touristic genres, e.g. amazing staycation, fusion dishes, shopaholics delight and spellbinding ambiance which display on the websites and tourism brochure. Tourists believe that they are becoming global communicators and acquiring a global linguistic repertoire of tourism. The real value in pointing to grammatical and phonetic characteristics such as those linguistic features used in tourism industry does not lie in their linguistic significance, but rather in their perceived as more functional touristic genres.
