Using mixed-method research, including interviews with lecturers and teaching assistants, and a student questionnaire, we identified 19 modalities (i.e., strategies for inclusion of serious games) and grouped them into seven categories. While the interest in this teaching innovation exists, potential difficulties were also identified. The findings will be used to develop multilingual green-themed serious games and incorporate them into non-environmental courses to promote sustainable education. Overall, this study aims to contribute to a more sustainable society and better education for all learners.","PeriodicalId":311611,"journal":{"name":"2023 17th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131064697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed IoT device management solutions aim to move device management from centralized clouds to the network edge, closer to IoT devices, to improve solution scalability as well as privacy and security for both devices and generated data. However, this leads to the new problem of how to assign a specific device management instance to a client so that it is able to control and interact with devices in its proximity in the context of smart indoor spaces. In this paper, we propose an architecture for distributed and location-aware IoT device control based on indoor positioning. The architecture enables direct and edge-based interaction with IoT devices in the client's proximity based on its indoor location. Finally, we provide a proof-of-concept implementation through a smart campus case study to demonstrate and evaluate the proposed architecture in a real-world environment.","PeriodicalId":311611,"journal":{"name":"2023 17th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124942972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wearable devices are powerful tools for supporting Internet of Things (IoT) systems because of their sensing, processing, and communication capability. The term “wearable devices” refers to a wide range of products that can be integrated into clothing and accessories, thus allowing real-time data detection, storage, and exchange without human intervention. This paper presents the practical evaluation of an LED-based wearable transmitter for an OCC system to demonstrate its feasibility. In particular, an LED array attached to the body is modulated using on-off keying to transmit data via visible light, and a smartphone camera captures video of the user wearing the device while slightly moving in a static position in the room. Finally, the data is decoded from the video frames using an image processing algorithm that tracks the source and demodulates the signal.","PeriodicalId":311611,"journal":{"name":"2023 17th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132325112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper proposes an IoT-based approach for increasing energy efficiency in the case study of the administrative buildings in the Port of Durres, Albania. The study is realized in cooperation with the port authorities who made available data on the energy consumption in the buildings. Various solutions with devices, sensor networks, and remote control of the energy flow, for monitoring and saving the consumption of electrical energy in the buildings, are proposed and assessed. The IoT technology optimizing energy consumption transforms the studied buildings into “smart ones”. The IoT solutions in the paper are based on a virtual model for the green transformation of the studied port buildings. An IoT-based plan to improve the building's energy efficiency is proposed. The necessary sensors for the building's monitoring are considered. A Buildings Energy Management System is proposed. The optimization methodology connected with the virtual building models is presented.","PeriodicalId":311611,"journal":{"name":"2023 17th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125571601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, many works employ machine learning techniques to address this problem, but much of this work often relies on synthetic or small datasets and uses only some specific machine learning techniques. In this research, we focus on analyzing firewall logs obtained from an industrial control network used in a production environment combined with generated anomalies representing real attacker steps in the network. We compared the results of unsupervised learning based on different models, subsets of attributes, feature construction methods, scaling methods, and aggregation levels, while the results of supervised learning were compared by using different classifiers at different aggregation levels. Based on the results of our experiments, we showed that the unsupervised learning method had a difficult task to detect our injected anomalies, which shows us that they are well integrated with the existing firewall logs. On the other hand, the injected anomalies allowed us to use supervised learning methods, and the results showed that using these methods gave much better results.","PeriodicalId":311611,"journal":{"name":"2023 17th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127741176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are the main medium for carrying all types of data-traffic. From a vulnerability and security perspective, it is therefore the most important part of the network to protect against any physical impacts that may cause disruptions or security incidents. In this paper, we demonstrate and describe a scalable, low-cost monitoring system based on detecting the state of polarisation in the fibre cables. We give examples on how any direct movement of fibre-cables or fibre-cords as well as indirect vibrations on the cable can be detected, and how basic characteristics in the patterns can be used for recognition of these events.","PeriodicalId":311611,"journal":{"name":"2023 17th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115178128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sensors are informed of the UAV's arrival with the help of WuR, followed by sensor-to-UAV data transfer with frequency and spreading-factor hopping. The proposed scheme provides significant energy savings at the sensors while maintaining similar reliability levels compared to a scheme in which Class B LoRa beacons are used to perfectly synchronize the sensors with the UAV's data-collection window.","PeriodicalId":311611,"journal":{"name":"2023 17th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"102 12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129291836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
