Various antenna selection algorithms based on different criteria have been proposed in the literature. This paper presents a new antenna selection algorithm for MIMO spatial division multiplexing (MIMO-SDM) systems which uses the mean square error (MSE) as a criterion for selecting the best subset of transmit/receive antennas to improve the system error performance. The proposed algorithm helps to achieve lower the bit error rate (BER) for MIMO-SDM systems with linear detectors compared with the previous channel matrix norm based and signal to noise ratio (SNR) based selection algorithms. Compared with the SNR based algorithm, the proposed algorithm provides double diversity gain in receive antenna selection systems and the same diversity order but about 1dB SNR gain in transmit antenna selection systems.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130729594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This channel suffers from impulsive noise and other narrow-band interferences. Impulsive noise, in particular, can degrade the performance of OFDM-based Power Line Communication (PLC) systems significantly. Therefore, channel coding is important to combat the impairments in this hostile medium. Interleaving can be integrated with coding to allow for a better exploitation of the capabilities of a coding scheme. In this paper, we study and simulate the performance of bit-interleaved convolutionally coded OFDM over PLC channels in the presence of impulsive noise. For our simulations, we adopt a widely accepted and practically proven channel model for broadband PLC. Three noise scenarios, namely “heavily disturbed”, “medium disturbed” and “weakly disturbed”, that are based on practical measurements are used to study the system performance by means of computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130742746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a suboptimal solution to DPC, a precoding technique called successive zero-forcing dirty paper coding (SZF-DPC) has been proposed recently. The condition for the existence of the precoding matrices in SZF-DPC restricts the capability of supporting multiple users simultaneously. Thus, a user scheduling algorithm is needed to achieve multiuser diversity in SZF-DPC as the number of users grows. In this paper, we propose three low-complexity suboptimal scheduling algorithms to exploit the multi-user diversity gain for SZF-DPC. The first algorithm greedily maximizes the true sum capacity. The second algorithm is based on eigenvalues that are closely related to the true capacity. The third algorithm relies on the diagonal elements of the effective channel matrix since we realize a strong relationship between the eigenvalues and diagonal entries of a Hermitian matrix. Simulation results of several cases show that the proposed scheduling algorithms can obtain a significant fraction of sum capacity of the optimal solution.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121443429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, they do not support asynchronous circuits because of the lack of asynchronous circuit elements such as Muller gates, etc. In this paper, new efficient approaches are proposed to prototype asynchronous or mixed synchronous/ asynchronous circuits on Look-Up Table-based (LUT) FPGA rapidly. The developed techniques are based on building of elements which play an important role in asynchronous circuits. The hazard-free elements are predefined in libraries in HDL and EDIF format. Timing and/or area constraints for place&route tool are automatically generated to map the asynchronous elements on suitable FPGA's logic blocks. Several FPGA devices such as Altera, Xilinx and Actel could be used as target for the implementation. For the purpose of demonstration, some asynchronous circuits are implemented with Xilinx Spartan 3 FPGA family.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123995179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The receiver's noises and multiple access interference (MAI) as well as the impact of pulse propagation are all taken into account. The numerical results show that, when OHL array is employed, the performance of 2-D OCDMA systems is much improved compared with the other cases of without OHL array. In addition, the 2-D OCDMA systems using OHL array can meet the requirements of the optical access networks in both number of users and transmission length. For example, with the average transmitted power per chip is −12 dBm, the system can support 30 users at bit rate 1 Gbit/s and maximum transmission length of 33 km. Other necessary parameters for practical system design also can be found in this paper including required transmitted power and optimum threshold.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132294589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
