Traditionally, security is viewed as an independent feature addressed above the physical-layer and all widely used cryptographic protocols are designed and implemented assuming the physical-layer has already been established and provides an error free link. However, with the emergence of ad-hoc and decentralized networks, higher-layer techniques, such as encryption, are complex and hard to be implemented. Therefore, there has been a recent attention on studying the fundamental ability of the physical-layer to provide secure wireless communications. In this contribution, we discuss the challenges ahead in implementing wireless physical-layer security.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115067025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This trend remains a challenge to telecommunication operators who in an effort to survive and remain relevant, now have to contend with managing their existing network-based services as well as their new application-based next generation services. A critical implication is that operation management systems, which used to be network-centric, now have to be migrated into application-centric systems in support of next generation services. Consequently, this paper discusses the requirements of an operation management system for managing service resources in the application layer of an NGN architecture. Additionally, this paper presents an efficient approach to managing the resources of next generation services. To validate the applicability and efficiency of the approach, we present a prototype implementation, so-called Application Service Management System (ASMS) and share some useful insights that can help to improve resource management system architectures for next generation services.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131362687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To solve efficiently some special practical problems the multisignature protocols are applied. New multisignature protocols based on the elliptic curves and discrete logarithm problem in finite groups are proposed to solve the problem of simultaneous signing contracts. The protocols provide simultaneous generation of the collective digital signature. There are considered the following two cases: 1) a group of signers are signing simultaneously one document and 2) several different groups of signers are signing several different documents. The signature verification is performed using collective public key computed from the whole set of individual public keys as the some convolution of this set.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"359 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134374894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study compare the effect of different modulation for person-independent facial expression recognition from face images. The image is transmitted based on OFDM channel. Then, The higher order local autocorrelation (HLAC) is used for feature extraction and the features are classified using the naive Bayesian (NB) classifier. Six different facial expressions are considered. Experiments carried out on Cohn-Kanade database shows comparable performance between different modulation in received images based on classification accuracy. BER performance is also included to observe when FER is applied to an OFDM channel in two different QAM modulations, 4- and 16-QAMs. It is shown that the empirical error performances obtain about similar results as compared to the theoretical error performances for both modulations.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133435038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By providing more bandwidth at reasonable power consumption, new communication infrastructures like NoCs seem promising, but are still limited by implementation issues. We present in this paper an Asynchronous Network-on- Chip architecture with two main innovations. Firstly, an automatic power regulation scheme is proposed to dynamically save leakage and dynamic power consumption. Secondly, due to the current lack of testing methodology for asynchronous logic, we propose a novel DfT solution to allow acceptance of the asynchronous NoC. The proposed architecture has been fully implemented in a STMicroelectronics CMOS 65nm technology, integrated in a complex test-chip and fabricated.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126967704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this paper is to propose an algorithm of range-free localization for WSNs using a mobile robot equipped with a rotary directional antenna. This algorithm, denominated as the azimuthally defined area localization algorithm (ADAL), is executed in each sensor node and is based only on the analysis of the information received from the mobile robot, therefore is energy efficient and contributes to extend the lifetime of the sensor network. Additionally the proposed algorithm has the advantage of being simple and economical. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is a practical, effective and accurate method to localize sensor nodes in a WSN.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128723951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We derive exact closed-form expressions for average channel capacity, an upper bound and its asymptotically tight approximation. The capacity statistics moment generating function (MGF), complementary cumulative distribution function (CDF) and probability density function (PDF) derived are valid for arbitrary number of receive antennas. Furthermore, we derive an exact closed expression for general M-PSK modulation. In this context, we first analyze the performance of such networks, using a quantitative mathematical analysis. Then we calculate an upper bound for the achievable improvement in total power consumption, when using an adaptive time interval modification algorithm for tracking moving objects with acceleration. Towards this optimum functionality, we propose a novel adaptive algorithm (AHC) to adapt the tracking interval such that it minimizes power consumption while keeping an acceptable accuracy. Simulation results show that using the proposed algorithm, the network has a very good performance with the added advantage of reducing the power consumption significantly (up to 24% and up to 14%) when compared with two existing adaptive methods (PaM and AEC, respectively). Moreover, according to simulation results, proposed algorithm acts relatively (about 28%) better than mentioned adaptive schemes in achieving the upper bound power conservation.","PeriodicalId":311235,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications","volume":"37 10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125702617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
