The only way for survival is to shift to online services, although they have to compete with formal educational institutions that also provide online learning and teaching to the students –customers to the PT providers. The current paper explores the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to an English PT provider in Indonesia; how they negotiate and adapt to such a critical circumstance; and what strategies they have to take to sustain their place within the PT sector. This study used quantitative research. The population in this study amounted to 571 respondents, while the sample in this study obtained many 230 respondents with research subjects, namely parents who have school-age children (students from PAUD/SD/SMP/SMA levels and currently implementing online learning). The sampling technique used is the purposive sampling technique. The data analysis technique in this study used descriptive statistical techniques. The study's overall results show that the readiness of parents in the use of ICT in children's learning during the Covid-19 pandemic shows good results with a percentage of 76.09%. These results are supported by the suitability of the results for each sub-variable, namely the sub-variables of parental readiness and ICT use in online learning. In this case, it can be interpreted that an educator must have readiness and understanding of the online learning system, but parents must also understand and master the technical implementation of online learning.","PeriodicalId":31118,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nonformal Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43748006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interactive digital books can be used as a tool by lecturers in the learning process in the classroom so that lecturers do not only use conventional learning methods in the learning process. In line with the times, many lecturers, students and even the public generally access all information via digital. This paper aims to create an Android-based interactive digital textbook as media and resources for Nonformal Education (PLS) learning tools. The ADDIE Model (Branch, 2009) is used in this study. It consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research starts with a literature review and need`s assessment of 47 students for an Android-based interactive digital textbook, followed by a textbook draft. After compiling the Android-based interactive digital textbook, it is validated by three experts: content/material expert, presentation expert, and Indonesian language expert. After being evaluated by three experts, the draft of an Android-based interactive digital textbook is revised to accommodate individual and small group testing. In the outstanding category, interactive digital media textbooks and PLS learning resources based on Android received a total score of 146 (91.25%) from three expert validators. This research shows that interactive digital textbooks are very practical, with a practicality percentage of 83.33% for one-to-one and 83.16% for small groups. The android-based PLS media and learning resources are valid and valuable. Due to the lack of availability of media teaching materials and learning resources in out-of-school education, the presence of Android-based textbooks that can be accessed anywhere and at any time can help both lecturers and students understand media materials and learning resources outside of school.","PeriodicalId":31118,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nonformal Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45222488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper employed qualitative design with case study approach. It took ten people who own and manage Small and Medium Enterprises as the research subject purposively. They were involved since they are the local community around Dolly and affected by the closure of the prostitution. This research was conducted between June and July 2019. The data were obtained through observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. The data were analyzed by employing Miles and Huberman model consisting of three steps: data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusion or verification. The results of the research confirm that most of the local community around Dolly which were affected by the closure of the prostitution indicate an economic independence seen from: (1) the initiative of the local community in developing their business, (2) the satisfaction of the local community from the business they manage after the prostitution closure, (3) the willingness and intention to develop the business, and (4) the beliefs of the local community in developing the business even without the support from the local government. However, this study also confirms that the problem-solving of the local community remains insufficient. Most of them still rely on the government, particularly for the issues of marketing and business place. Thus, as much as 20% of the informants were afraid of the changing of city mayor would impact their business.","PeriodicalId":31118,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nonformal Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46729147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From this data alone, we can describe how low the cognitive abilities or intelligence of Indonesian students are. In the education curriculum, the government has designed special standards so that Indonesian students are increasingly trained in their cognitive abilities, and are increasingly able to solve problems well. Freedom to learn is an idea that gives freedom to educators and students in determining the learning system. The purpose of the declaration of independent learning is to create a meaningful education and emphasize aspects of skills and experiences in learning. The spirit brought by the concept of independent learning is the flexibility and freedom in designing and managing learning for educational actors, ranging from educational institutions, educators, to students. The main programs are: the ease of opening new study programs, changes to the accreditation system for higher lecturers, the convenience of state higher education institutions becoming state universities with legal entities, and the right to study for three semesters outside the study program. Students are given the freedom to take credits outside the study program, three semesters which are meant in the form of 1 semester of opportunity to take courses outside the study program and 2 semesters of participating in learning activities outside of higher education. Various forms of learning activities outside of tertiary institutions, including conducting internships/work practices in industry or other workplaces, implementing community service projects in villages, teaching in educational units, participating in student exchanges, conducting research, conducting entrepreneurial activities, conducting studies/ independent projects, and following humanitarian programs. All these activities must be carried out by students with guidance from the lecturer. The learning process at the Merdeka Campus is one of the most essential manifestations of student-centered learning. Learning in the Merdeka Campus provides challenges and opportunities for the development of innovation, creativity, capacity, personality, and student needs, as well as developing independence in seeking and finding knowledge through realities and field dynamics such as ability requirements, real problems, social interaction, collaboration, self-management, performance demands, targets and achievements. Through an independent learning program that is well designed and implemented, students' hard and soft skills will be formed strongly.","PeriodicalId":31118,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Nonformal Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41374612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
